I have eaten at Dons for forty years. In that time it has remained fairly consistant with the quality of its food. The shrimp and crab gumbo is one of the best in town. The crawfish bisque, in season, may be the best in Louisiana. The bisque gravy is thick and flavorful with lots of tails and stuffed heads. Recently my wife and I both ordered the Fried Shrimp platter and were amazed at the number of shrimp that were served. There were large and fried perfectly. We both had to get a to go box. The hushpuppies were hot and delicious. The only setback was Dons management decision several years ago not to provide a dinner salad with every entree. This has to be ordered seperately. Other than that it gets two thumbs up on being the bedrock of Baton Rouge dining for all these many years.
Pros: atmosphere, Food quality, value, service
