When we first moved to PA in 2007, we went with Donegal Insurance as they were recommended by our RE agent. Our premiums were a little high, but we stuck with them. We paid on time every 6 mos. When we added our teen son #1, our premiums went up an additional $1100 per year. I know male teens increase premiums but that was with several discounts they added on (good grade discount, behind-the-wheel training, multiple policies, etc.) Several years (and no accidents) later, when son #2 was added, our insurance increased $1000 per year! We were paying close to $300 per month for car insurance--good drivers, no accidents, all the discounts they could give us! And just for basic coverage, no bells and whistles! I started shopping around and found several other insurance companies who could provide better coverage for a lower cost. We ultimately changed to Nationwide, paying less than half ($116/mo) for better coverage, still with 2 teen male drivers. I've asked around, and many people are telling me that Donegal is extremely expensive insurance. Just wished I'd switched sooner.
