Best

My sister and I recently dined at Donatello for the first time and were wowed by everything! I had heard of Donatello's and passed it many times on Dale Mabry but never thought to...

Worst

I really wanted to like Donatello; however, the combination of good-but-not-above-average food and the astronomical prices charged for it dragged it down.\r \r I'd like to think...

Wonderful! 4/10/2003

We had a banquet at Donatello's and I cannot believe how helpful and accomodating they were. Excellent food and perfect service. I highly recommend Donatello's for a private dinner or for their banquet facilities. Pros: Service is impecable, Excellent food, Atmosphere Cons: Expensive more

Worth the trip 1/13/2003

I live in Sarasota and it is worth the trip to drive to Tampa to eat at Donatello. Guido and the staff are very friendly and the food is outstanding. more

WAY UNDER RATED 1/13/2003

I was there on my honeymoon and have make sure I go back at least once a year . This is real Italian cuisine that will leave you with the top button unbuttoned on your pants when you leave. Foeget about those junk food chains you have listed let people taste what we Italian Americans had in our homes growing up and to this day. more

What a waste 1/4/2003

We had our wedding dinner there wanting to make it a good experience for everyone. We had told Donatello in advance that we would not want a cake because we were going to go someplace else afterwards. After dinner, they told us they had a surprise and came with a cake with our names on it. Being that we had already told them we didn't want one, we thought, what a nice gesture from them to offer this as a surprise ""on the house"". But the actual surprise came when we got our bill that charged us $ 80.00 for the cake that we did not want in the first place. The food was below average and the waiters were snobby and very impolite. What a waste of time and money. I would recommend Carrabbas or Olive Garden any day over Donattello. more

Mama Mia! 9/30/2002

Rarely in FL have I so enjoyed a meal. The service & ambiance are surprisingly urban. As a New Yorker it isn't often that one finds a restaurant of any cuisi- ne that really has a wonderful ambiance. The food is absolutely beautifully prepared! The portions are sized perfectly, & for the quality; the price is right on key! The desserts were also superb. I would give this restaurant an 8.5; with 10 being perfect score. Pros: service, food quality, pricing Cons: lavatory - women's more

Exquisite, exquisite, exquisite! 9/20/2002

The food was out of this planet every bite being a new adventure for our senses; the service was impeccable to the last detail, and the atmosphere was sophisticated and romantic. The best spent money on food and pleasure ever. Will go there again definitely! Pros: Excellent food, Stylish interior, Kisses at the door more

THE BEST 9/9/2002

Having lived for many years in both New York City and Boston, which are ""Meccas"" for great Italian restaurants, I was discouraged with what I found in the Tampa Bay area, when I first started travelling here. Then about 5 years ago someone recommended Donatello's - and it was ""love at first taste""! I live here permanently, now and, although, I still miss those great restaurants in the north, I have Donatello's to sate my appetite for great Italian food!! Pros: food, service, presentation more

The best of Italy close to home 8/11/2002

Donatello offers the BEST regional Italian cuisine in Tampa. The setting is very romantic and dressy at night with salmon colored cloths and lighting, roses at each table, and tuxedoed waiters, most from Italy. Lunch is reasonably priced and great to do business over. Try the Calamari Amalfitana, Calamari and zucchini fritti, and the best Caesar salad in town. The homemade pastas are wonderful, especially the lasagna verde bolognese and tagliatelli alla kathy (ham, cream, tomato, mushrooms). The seafood is fresh and delicious- oysters fiorentina and mussels are amazing, as is the swordfish pantelleria. The ossobuco is outstanding, as is the nodino di vitello with a brandy cream, and mushroom sauce. The homemade desserts- tiramisu and napoleon cake are out of this world. Yes, it is VERY expensive at night, but there is no other restaurant in this area that offers the caliber and selection of food, ambience, and service. Pros: outstanding food, romantic decor, snazzy piano bar more

Elegant 7/23/2002

Elegant setting and elegant food. You'll eat more than usual and it will be worth every bite! Very romantic-if someone takes you there, they are serious! more
