when I rented the car I inquired about the toll bridges and charges. The clerk told me i would only be going threw one toll and could pay cash and would not need to buy a toll car...

Worse Ever.\r \r We had car rental from Dollar at Austin airport. That’s the worst experience ever. We do travel often and rent car often, never ever had such bad experience.\r \r The lady was at counter was friendly enough, but she didn’t explained things clearly at all. She tried to sell us all different upgrades, we clearly told her we don’t want any upgrade, just want to stick with what we originally reserved. By the time we picked the make of car (two choices), she sneaked in the upgrade of that make of car without tell us. We didn’t find out until we returned the car. She also put toll pass ($4.99 per day) there without tell us that we had to pay it and we have option not choose it. We had impression that come with the car and it’s free.\r \r Granted it’s our fault that we didn’t specify confirm with her every single item on the contract at counter, but we really didn’t know what to confirm until later on we had bill. \r \r When we returned the car, we saw the bill was much higher than the Expedia estimated. So we asked the guy receiving the car. He pointed out it’s upgrade car. Right away, we said we didn’t ask for upgrade. He went in talked to people inside, come out tell us that it’s all being taken care. They have removed the upgrade. But later on, we found out in the bill that upgrade still there. \r \r I called twice later to talked to their managers which they put name on the bill said call them if have problem. But both of them said they can’t do anything because we did use the upgrade.\r \r The way they handle business was very poor and unprofessional, and seems to us that they are trying to trick customers in all different levels.\r \r \r more

when I rented the car I inquired about the toll bridges and charges. The clerk told me i would only be going threw one toll and could pay cash and would not need to buy a toll card. Three weeks later I got a charge for an unpaid toll. I do not even know if it was the one I paid, if it wasn't i went threw one without even knowing it. I called and of course no one wanted to help. They are independently owned so there is not going over there head. The rude girl who handles the toll told me to call my credit card company and let them take care of it. I think this is a scam, rent from someone else, no matter how good the rental fee is because there are hidden charges here and no one wants to help. more

Great customer service, awesome rental car too 7/29/2011

I wanted to rent something special and sporty for my birthday and went to Dollar car rental because I have had good experiences with them in the past. I reserved a Dodge Challenger for $99 a day and it was a little pricey but definitely worth it. Other companies were charging at least that for similar cars. The agents were friendly and even brought out a cold water while I waited in line outside. I loved the car and the return process was quick and easy. The agents did try to sell me on extras but that's their job and I just say no to all that extra stuff like the gps and damage waiver. I will definitely rent from them again, I saw some nice new suv's like Dodge Durangos and Jeeps that I would like to rent sometime. I think they have improved their car selection. more

Not a place to do business 4/17/2011

I was very disappointed when I arrived in Austin to find that my car was not ready and it took a while for the clerk to figure out what to do. Many things were promised during the transaction: I was told that I needed insurance even though I already had insurance, I was told that the toll road cost in Austin would be given to me (and made to believe that this would be at no extra charge). When I returned the car, all kinds of extra charges were added to my bill (which was very different from the quote received online. The clerk gave me a receipt and a phone number to call to dispute the charges. \r \r I was able to talk to a customer service rep, by phone (Christopher) who took off the ""flat tire"" charge (whatever that is) and he told me he owed me a $50.00 refund since I had been overcharged for the cost of the car. \r \r Now, I am back home and have a $51.80 charge as a separate entity on my credit card bill. I have called multiple times to the Dollar Rental location in Austin. And, have been placed on hold for over 20 minutes!!!! I have been unable to talk to anyone about this situation. \r \r I know that I would never recommend Dollar Rental. And, I am unhappy about the type of customer service that I received. As Christopher told me over the phone on April 11, 2011 ""Dollar Rental is in the business of making money."" It looks like that is true; they do not appear to be in the business of customer service. more

Don't rent @ Dollar-Austin 7/24/2009

First, they didn't honor the intermediate car category I reserved. The rental agreement included a fuel charge, which they removed when I said I usually get asked whether I want to pay up front or bring it back with a full tank. The litany of charges for taxes, etc. were all higher by small amounts than the quote from the internet. After reviewing the paperwork and seeing the large van they wanted to give me, I asked for an alternative in the car class reserved. They said there were no other cars. I pointed out that the sign said CARS AVAILABLE and that meant there were more cars than rentals. So they said all they had was a subcompact, and the new paperwork had the same rental rate. When I pointed that out, I was told it was the walk-up rate. When I argued relentlessly I was not a walk-up, I was given a 5% discount. NOW THE BEST PART... the receipt I got when I returned the car was for the first rental agreement at the higher price! In a hurry to catch a plane, I'll bet most of us would return the car with a full tank and not notice whether the fuel charge was applied. This is how they treat Dollar Express members -- it took more than 20 minutes to get a car. Pros: airport location Cons: numerous - bordering on fraud more
