Heather completely re worked an angel i had on my back done my a tatoo artist at another shop.the previous tattoo was not what i wanted and my angel even had a mustache due to too much shading.Heather turned my angel into a beautiful work of art.she fixed all the problems.gave my angel a beautiful face i was wanting.this was a memorial to my dad who passed away so it meant alot to me.did i mention she free handed the work.i drove over an hour and i will drive it again when i am ready for my next tattoo. more

Review for Dogstar Tattoo Co 4/23/2011

I have gone to some tattoo parlors, but I have to say that this is the best one i've been to so far. The staff was really cool, the place looked very clean. One particular artist named Jason, was extremely cool, and took the time to follow proper procedures before starting on the tattoo(showing the sanitized needles). I will be back for more tattoos!! more

Best In Durham 4/20/2011

I've had tattoos done in several different places but never felt such a positive vibe just from walking in the door. The entire staff was really friendly and I would definitely recommend Justin to everyone, especially anyone nervous about getting their first tattoo. He was really gentle and even though I was getting a tat on my ribs I can honestly say it didn't hurt at all. Thanks again! more

best place so far 3/25/2011

i have had tattos from 6 places in the area and will make dogstarr the last place i go. everyone was friendly. stephani who is new there did my tattoo. i think it was her first at dog starr. i got my ribs done so i was in a lot of pain. she was great with everything. very talented and very nice. i will be going back to her for the rest of my tats. more

Love Love Love this shop! :DDD 3/24/2011

I've gotten all of my piercings and tattoos from Dogstar, all of which were amazing except for one ( done by oddly strange james). He seriously, seriously messed up the piece that he'd worked. James aside, Dogstar is an amazing shop. The staff is extremely friendly and they keep it real. If you're looking for quality work and fair prices you've most certainly found the right place. Best shop in the triangle, hands down. :DD more

Best shop in town 3/9/2011

I have been a customer at Dogstar for over 5 years now. I actually got my first and most recent tat there, with some piercings thrown in the mix. Over the years I've always been satisfied with the work i get done. The staff are always friendly and personable - yet very professional, and its a pleasure to be there. Recently I've been in to have several piercings/stretches done. All healed no problem and were spot on.The piercer is super talented and does everything very clean and professionally. Great experience as always. I've always recommended Dogstar to any friends and family that are looking for quality tattoos and piercings. more

Amazing people,Amazing service,Amazing art,Amazing place 6/17/2010

I've been a returning customer of Dogstar for many years, as have many family members and friends, none of us have ever had any form of problem at Dogstar with the people or any of our tattoos or piercings. I am the proud owner of a tattoo and 5 piercings done at Dogstar and I'm not done yet! The artists and piercers are talented and hilarious and very welcoming. They will take the time to answer all of your questions and make sure that you are comfortable with and sure of your decisions. RONALD has done my PIERCINGS and is very comforting, he even counted for me even though he said he'd never had anyone ask him to, he's open minded and makes sure your piercings look good, I also had a talk with him about future piercings where he honestly told me what could work and what wouldn't. The workers at Dogstar are extremely honest with you and will tell you if what you want would look good or if you should reconsider. I would recommend Dogstar to anyone ranging from first piercings or tattoos to people with significant collections. I love it and will continue to use them for future art. Pros: Friendly, welcoming,EXTREMELY talented artists and piercers Cons: Hard parking more

Awesome Service, Awesome People! 4/22/2010

I have nothing but good things to say about this place. I have gotten my first tattoo, as well as two ear piercings here: my tragus and my cartilege. My tattoo experience was great, in fact, in two days, I will be returning to Dogstar for a second. Their tattooing times are super flexible, so you can walk in whenever! My artist, Alan, was great, and very clean. Healing was thoroughly explained to me, and I healed very quickly! Another good thing about the experience is the free touch-up. There were some lines on my piece that were thicker than others, and it was completely free! My piercing experiences were great as well. Ronnie did a great job. He is super friendly and very professional at what he does. Healing was again explained well, and I healed in no time. I would recommend this place to everyone, and do, because the quality is fantastic, and it's just a blast to be there with all the awesome people! Pros: clean equipment, friendly artists, free touch-up Cons: a tad pricier than mediocre parlors more

Great tattoo & piercing 3/12/2010

Got my first tattoo there, the artist Nathan did a great job on me while my wife got a tattoo from WIlliam in another booth. Both artists did great work. Another time, a friend of mine got a half-sleeve by Kathryn - she designed it and did the work and it looks great. No healing issues, no fading, nothing bad at all. These guys are pros. Pros: fair prices, top-notch artists more

PIERCING NIGHTMARE 1/1/2010

Went to have a piercing done here, and was dismayed when the piercer was unable to get jewelry into my piercing AFTER HAVING PIERCED METWO TIMES !!! After inquiring as to her experience piercing she told me she had only been piercing for 1 WEEK !!! This business has gone downhill over the last 4 years & this experience will keep me, and everyone I know away. STAY AWAY ! Pros: Worst Service In Town Cons: Worst Service In Town more

Great Experience! 9/13/2009

I brought Nathan a photograph and he spent a lot of time drawing up the stencil. I did not feel rushed and I felt like he was trying to be very careful to get it right. During the tattoo he made me feel very comfortable by checking in with me (it was my first tattoo). When I saw the end result, it looked better than the photograph I brought him. It was better than I thought it could be. Pros: friendly, professional, careful, accurate more

Mixed at best 7/5/2009

I've patronized Dogstar over the years several times for tattoos and piercings, and although I've rarely experienced the outright rudeness some reviews claimed, it has been a mixed experience. Several years ago they had some excellent artists who were very clean, friendly and professional. I had a beautiful piece done by Mike - I drew the design and it had a lot of personal significance to me, and after talking with him he added his artistic touches and designed a gorgeous tattoo that I will be proud of for the rest of my life. I was nervous and so happy to have someone who understood how important this was to me, and seemed to genuinely enjoy the design process. I also had a piercing done by T and she was extremely clean, precise and informative. She talked me through the aftercare and even followed up a few days later. She was awesome. But those people are gone and over the years, some of the new artists have been awful. I had one tiny wrist tattoo done by a guy who was extremely rude and appeared to be hungover. After a few days it was all blotchy and uneven, so I went in and he tried to fix it and was much nicer, saying ""Sorry I was a **** the other day, it was just a bad day."" I understand, but your 'bad day' is now on my body forever. I also got a piercing from a guy who was VERY twitchy and ended up getting blo0d everywhere. Again, it looked infected after a few days and I had to go in and get it fixed. After these two experiences I don't patronize Dogstar any more. So I would warn people that this isn't a place like Warlock's where the whole staff is experienced and good at what they do. There are some good artists there (I heard Nathan is great) but you have to DO YOUR RESEARCH first and not just walk in expecting excellent service. This place is the McDonald's of tattoo shops - I think they get such heavy walk-in traffic due to location that they don't have to worry about repeat customers. It's too bad, because Dogstar has the potential to be a great neighborhood tattoo shop. Pros: easy location, some good artists Cons: some of the artists are terrible more

The land of ""Sound"" tattoos 6/5/2009

Where to begin? If you are looking for a place that is professional and values its clients, this is not the business. On December 13, 2008 me a couple friends got tattoos (walk-ins). At completion, my tat looked good. However, within a couple of days I knew something was terribly wrong. Mind you, this was my third tat. It was so poorly done that it scabbed (you wouldn't believe) and I even lost pigment. When I went back to talk to the owner, even though she knew his (Nathan) work was poor (she couldn?t disguise her reaction), she told me I had a ""sound"" tattoo. I didn't pay to get a ""sound"" tattoo. She made sure that I knew that they didn't give refunds and that I would have to wait to have the same person retouch my tat. Really? To think that I would want to go back to the person who damaged my skin. Please! He didn't have any idea how to tat dark brown skin and failed to let me know. I can provide pictures to anyone who would like to see my formerly desecrated back. I found wonderful artist in Atlanta to do the cover up (Miya Bailey, City of Ink). I have pictures of before and after. Seriously folks, after my experience I wouldn?t recommend any black person patron their shop. Hell, I wouldn?t recommend them to anyone given their total lack of sensitivity and professionalism. Email diva1955@hotmaildotcom to request pictures. Cons: Poor service, poorly done work, damaged skin more

Stay Away From This Business 2/9/2009

If you enjoy being treated like an idiot this is the place for you ! Went here to receive a nostril piercing after being given a gift certificate. Upon entering the shop I was ignored by the 3 employees who were busy laughing it up amongst themselves. Once I was deemed worthy of attention the female piercer was very unfriendly, and acted like I had imposed upon her time. Well, I got the piercing. About three weeks later when the piecing had developed a bump, and was NOT healing up I returned. The piercer told me I was doing something wrong cleaning the piercing, and was completely uninterested in assisting me. At this point I went to another local studio where the piercer was helpful, diagnosed the problem, and corrected the problem caused by Dog Star. I guess location is the only reason this business continues to have clients. I for one will never return, and will make sure that none of my friends fall victim to the negligence practiced there. Cons: Poor Customer Service / Lack of Knowledge more

NO NO NO NO NO! 1/27/2009

I had the misfortune of having a piercing done here...do not make the same mistake! The piercer is extremely unfriendly - AND THAT IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT - but I could live with that; after all, it's a business transaction. However, I had some problems following and she couldn't have been less interested in helping. In desperation I finally turned to another piercer who diagnosed and corrected the problem within minutes. Presumably, the piercer at Dogstar should have thought of this option *sometime,* if not right away. I wish I had gone to [other piercing place in town] initially. Pros: ?? I guess the location isn't too bad Cons: NO reasonable aftercare; extremely unfriendly and unpleasant attitude more

The Best First Experience Ever 12/9/2008

I was so scared to get a tattoo almost close to tears but when i came to DOGSTAR all fear left it was very clean and the people are respectalbe and nice everyone was very understanding of my situation and assured me that everything was going to be fine. WILLIAM was fun and he is a great artist. I wouldn't trade this experience for the world and I wouldnt go any where else for a tattoo! Pros: everything about this shop Cons: there aren't alot of places like this more
