Our dog, poodle and shih tzu mix, has an undercoat, which is very hard to groom. However, a new staff, Grace Lee, has done a fabulous job grooming her several times. She is very friendly and kind. Dogspaw Grooming staffs love all dogs like they own them. Our dog always comes out looking so neat and soft. Her nails are well clipped, also. Whenever we come back, we are very happy. We are sure our dog feels that way, too. more

Came here #1 close by my house....#2...great references! Yuki, my Shih Tzu, was in need of a deep cleaning and a new haircut. My attempts of grooming her with my bf and myself didn't work out as planned. We decided to take her to some professional place to get it done. I saw DogSpaw on yelp and read reviews. Although theyr hours are a bit odd, we made an appointment and hoped the reviews lived up to their ratings. We dropped her off at 10am and Alex had about 4 other dogs in the cages....most of them were already well groomed and clean. Just by looking at the finished products from that moment, I trusted his instincts to make my dog just as nice. We were running late to pick her up. Instead of coming back by 1:30pm, we showed up at 2:10pm. Oops! He was closing shop at 2pm! But, when we arrived, he didn't make a big deal about being late and still had a great attitude about briefing us on how the session went. Yuki looked happy and so cute! He used to look sad and scared after her other grooming sessions at other spots. The prices were very affordable and you can put it as ""dirt cheap"" for the professionalism he puts into his work. I will definitely bring my baby back her for another visit! more

I was referred to Buddy and Dogspaw Grrooming after I had bad experiences at two other groomers. What a wonderful experience! He listened to my request and got it exactly right -- Bear looks gorgeous, smells great (no more super industrial-smelling shampoo that stinks up the car on the ride home), and most importantly, came home happy and stress-free. Best of all, the price was a fraction of what I expected (and what I had paid elsewhere for much inferior service). Buddy, you have a customer for life!! more

Best in DC metro 12/7/2011

I took my best friend Rascal to Dogspaw after reading an article in a local magazine rating the best pet business in DC area. Dogspaw definitely lives up to its high rating, the staff is friendly and they try to accommodate special requests such early pickup and not kenneling . Rascal got his best haircut there and we have tried quite a few other grooming salons in Northern Virginia. Dogspaw is definatley a keeper. DB more

I don't usually write reviews, but I was so taken aback by the negative reviews posted about Dogspaw that I registered so that I could say that my experience with them over the past 6 years has been uniformly positive. \r \r Dogspaw has routinely groomed two of my dogs: a collie/shepherd mix and a terrier. Both of them liked going to Dogspaw and I have never had any problems like the ones described by other reviewers. The cut given to my terrier is especially nice, and always gets compliments. I've referred many people to DogsPaw over the years, and I've never heard anything negative about the place from them.\r \r I have a third dog, a collie that is shown in conformation. He likes going to DogsPaw too, but I do all the grooming on him myself because show grooming for collies is different than regular grooming. However, Dogspaw routinely bathes and blow-dries him before a show. It's extremely important that he be completely dry, otherwise hotspots can develop very quickly as every show person knows to their sorrow. My collie has always been thorougly dried, and Dogspaw even keeps a special shampoo on hand for him. \r \r In addition, they have always been extremely accommodating. For instance, this winter the owner came in to bathe my collie when the facility was officially shut because of inclement weather because he knew he was leaving the next day for an important show.\r \r I also appreciate the fact that they call me when the dogs are done so I can come pick them up, rather than making them stay there all day.\r \r In closing, I'd like to say that user-reviews are a mixed blessing. I frequently get good and useful information from them, but occasionally I run across folks who are unreasonable and unfair because they have an ax to grind, or are just plain nuts. more

They cut off part of my dog's ear! 2/21/2011

I had been to Dogspaw two times before with satisfactory results, not friendly staff by any means, but satisfactory grooming results. The third time was definitely not a charm. Someone else, and by the looks of it, someone new, groomed my dog. Not only did it look like a 5 year old had gone at her with scissors and a razor, with uneven lines and a few bald patches, but they also CUT OFF A SMALL PORTION OF HER EAR! There was dried blood in her fur that they didn’t even bother to clean off. Accidents happen but the worse part of it is that they never told me. The groomer had left before I arrived and my husband and I discovered it as soon as we got home. When I called back to discuss it with the owner he denied the incident and made excuses as to why the grooming was so bad. None of which were valid. Not only would he not take any responsibility for the horrible grooming and bodily harm caused to my dog but he refused to refund my money when I asked and when American Express attempted to stop payment on the service. Dogspaw and their employees do not stand behind their service. more

you may as well use petsmart 1/29/2011

my neighbor found out the only groomer they have now is a petsmart groomer anyway. she did a terrible job on my neighbors dog. i know that i will not take my dog there again, if i wanted a bad grooming for too much money i'd go to petsmart or petco. there are many better shops in the area that have real groomers working there. don't waste your time or money. more

This place RUINED MY PETS!!! 1/1/2011

I am extremely disappointed. The owner chuck, and female assistant seem so nice, and I thought my dogs were in good care. I am fair person, and when I arrived to get them to my surprise they were completely shaved. Including one of my dogs (sterling) whose fur was not matted, the other yes I could understand since he doesn't like to be brushed. I am certain whomever groomed them just put them straight to the clippers. They did not check to if they could brush out the tangles. I asked for short not shaved which included their tail shaved off. why i do not know because neither tails were tangled, which I know for a fact did not need to be shaved off! In all my years my dogs being groomed this has never happened. Nor have they incurred any irritations or injuries. Even our one time trip to PETCO was better then this. My one dog Sterling had a cut on his arm which they explained. I was kind enough to forgive. They seem so nice, and caring, I guess it is all for show. I even forgave for the injury, bad hair cuts and paid. UNTIL I GOT HOME AND THE FOLLOWING DAY NOTICED BOTH DOGS HAD RAZOR BURNS AND IRRITATIONS ON THEIR HEADS AND UNDERBELLIES. I HAD TO CALL MY VET, AND LUCKILY HE SAID NEOSPORIN WOULD BE FINE FOR THE BURNS. MY ONE DOG STERLING DIDN'T EAT OR GO TO THE BATHROOM FOR 2 DAYS, AND BOTH OF THEM WERE SHAKING DUE TO NERVOUSNESS. I DON'T CARE YOU SCREWED UP ON THE CUT, I DO CARE THAT YOU HURT MY ANIMALS, AND WHEN WE CALLED TO COMPLAIN, AND TELL YOU HURT MY ANIMALS AND ASK FOR A REFUND OR AT LEAST PARTIAL SOMETHING SHOW ME THAT YOU KNOW YOUR STAFF MESSED UP, AND MAYBE I WOULD GO BACK BUT NOWAY! IT JUST SHOWS MONEY IS ALL THAT MATTERS NOT CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. DOGSPAW OFFERED FOR ME TO BRING BACK, AND WE CAN GET A FREE GROOMING INSTEAD. NO WAY! HOW CAN TRUST A COMPANY THAT OWN UP TO THE NEGLIGENCE TO PERHAPS THEIR STAFF INEPTNESS. YOU DIDN'T OFFER ANY KIND OF REFUNDS FOR YOUR DAMAGE. I THINK YOU SHOULD REEXAMINE WHOEVER CUT MY DOGS' HAIR. THANK GOODNESS IT WAS NOT SERIOUS EXCEPT THAT SMALL CUT ON STERLING'S ARM, DOGSPAW TOLD ME ABOUT BECAUSE HE WAS BEING A ""BAD"" BOY. EVEN THOUGH I DIDN'T BELIEVE THAT I LET IT GO BECAUSE IT SEEM LIKE YOU WERE SORRY. MY DOG STERLING HAS BEEN GROOMED ALL HIS LIFE, AND NEVER MOVES. WE NEVER HAD ANY INCIDENTS WITH OUR REGULAR GROOMERS. MAYBE YOU HAVE TO REEXAMINE SOME OF YOUR GROOMERS. I AM WRITING THIS BECAUSE I WOULD NEVER WANT ANYONE TO EXPERIENCE WHAT I DID. I WAS IN TEARS DURING CHRISTMAS, AND MY DOGS WERE TRAUMATIZED. I AM VERY HURT FOR THE LACK CONCERN FOR CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. YOU HAVE LOST MY TRUST, AND I WILL NEVER REFER DOGSPAW OTHER DOG OWNERS. I WILL STICK TO MY BONNIES IN DC! THANK YOU. more
