Dodo

Some friends and I went out with our children to dine at the Dodo. So it was a group of 7 on a Friday night, and they told us it would be a 30 minute wait. We said "fine" and sat down to wait. We watched group after group walk in and be seated immediately. We thought nothing of it because 30 minutes wasn't up and we were a large group. After about 35 minutes we started asking what the story was. The hostess was rude immediately and told us that there aren't many tables that they can seat a 7 top. The entire restaurant is made up of 4 tops that can be pushed together with another table. Anyway, 45 minutes, one of our party goes up to find out the status and the hostess said "like I told your friends, we don't have a table for 7 people yet." My friend said, "I have watched party after party get seated. You are telling me in 45 minutes you don't have a table? Let me speak to your manager." We watched her tell the story to the manager and neither one of them came back. They just bagged us. By now we have little kids getting tired and the server walks up and said I'll seat you right now. He and another server did everything in their power to resolve the situation, however, the manager (which turns out to be the General Manager) never came over, and actually went home. Unfortunately, after all of that, the wine list couldn't have been worse, the food was average and the room was FREEZING. We will NEVER go back to the Dodo! more

Delicious, original and back in Sugar House. It is nice to see an original, all corporate restaurants miss one thing that Dodo has, personality and in-house whole smoked turkey! Last Monday I dropped by and had a "Turkey Philly" that was on special and I can honestly say that it is the best Turkey sandwich anywhere, period. The staff was warm, welcoming and attentive. It is nice to see something original in the post-modern culinary world. oh yea, try the Turkey. Pros: Best Turkey Sandwich ever! Friendly staff. Cons: Had to wait for a table more

It's hard to believe in this day and age that any restaurant that claims to be of some caliber would use canned chicken, but this restaurant does. Canned chicken in the flavorless enchiladas. If you're going to put it on the menu, make sure it doesn't make one want to leave at the very sight. THis place gets consistent reviews for its great turkey sandwich. Any restaurant can make a great turkey sandwich, and many do. The desserts are frozen, the sauces bland, the specials surprisingly unspecial. Yes, the barbeque sauce is good. But its NO reason to waste your money and time at this tired old "standby." Don't bother. more

I was thrilled when The Dodo came to Sugarhouse, now I didn't have to deal with parking downtown! I wasn't, however, thrilled with their service. Not at all, not any of the 3 times I've been. Maybe it's the curse of the patio- all 3 times we were sat on the patio, and all 3 times we waited an hour for our food!! I thought maybe the first time it was because they were "new" and still working out the kinks, but it seems to be just how things run there. I had to ask the waiters several times for refils on my soda, and even once for silverware and napkins. One time the waiter forgot about an order and someone at our table had to wait 10 minutes longer to get his plate. Another time 2 extra meals that we never ordered were on our bill? Small mistakes if they happened just once, but like I said before, something like this happens every time I go! I will say the food is good, not amazing, but good. If you're willing to wait 30 minutes to be seated, 20 minutes to order and then another hour to get your food. The dessert is amazing though. Maybe next time I'll just get a dessert to go. I am less than impressed with the service. Pros: great dessert, and patio Cons: awful service, long waits more
