A family-friendly dinner show 3/16/2006

Although many reviews have roasted the Dixie Stampede, my experience was quite different. Is it expensive? Yes. However, with any dinner show, you're getting dinner and entertainment. Now, I'll fully admit to be a horse hater and I'm not the biggest fan of Civil War era stuff, but I had a really good time here. The food is far from gourmet, but it's a downright entertaining evening out with a large group. Yes, there tends to be a waft of horse every now and again, but if you don't like country music and horses and show up to place called the Dixie Stampede.. well, maybe you could use a dose of common sense. I'd put this up there with other shows like Arabian Nights and Medieval Times- expensive, but good for a family-friendly night out. more

Great for kids!!! 12/27/2005

My KIDS loved this place. We were in Myrtle beach on vacation and went to the show and they had a blast. Maybe it is geared more for kids than adults. If we would have had more time we would have taken in another show such as the dragon themed show. The kids really got into the different things the performers did and the audience particiaption. more

bad. bad. bad 12/17/2005

Nooo! Don’t make me go again. Oh, this is the worst place I’ve ever been in my life. If I had my choice between Dollywood and Dixie Stampede, and having my eyes burnt out with a hot poker, I’d really have to sit down and think about which would be worse. Honestly. Perhaps my problem is that I find myself going to country-music themed events/places when I have absolutely no desire to listen to country music. The idea behind Dixie Stampede is North v. South. You sit on one side or the other and root for your team, which participates in various displays of pseudo-militarism. There are horses that dance on one leg, and a horse that walks on a barrel. I don’t really like to smell horse poop while I’m eating, so that kind of turned me off. I was taken here by a relative. I didn’t enjoy it. I was happy someone else paid for it, but still feel a pang of guilt—not only that they wasted their money on Dixie Stampede, but that they enjoy this sort of thing and go here often. I don’t know which fact is the saddest. more

I'm never sure if this is a real place or just a hallucination 10/1/2005

My son-in-law is from Myrtle Beach and has taken me (for some reason) to Dixie Stampede twice. I don't know why---I'm not a fan of horses or country music or the civil war. Maybe he just doesn't like me and wants to let me know in no uncertain terms. As you may or may not know, Myrtle Beach is FILLED with theme-park restaurant-dinner-show-themed extravaganzas. I am not reviewing this as a restaurant, but rather an entertainment complex, which I find to be more 'complex entertainment'. There are alot of horses in the center ring doing horsey things and showing off and fighting the bad guys (You're either NOrthern or Southern, depending on what side of the arena you sit on). It's not very appetizing to eat food in a closed-space that is shared with horses. I'm not big into battlefield reinactments, whch you'll get TONS of here. I suggest getting tanked before you go. It'll save you $$ on drinks there, and will make the whole thing more entertaining. It will also give you deeper insight into the person your child married----does he LIKE Dixie Stampede, or does he hate ME? more
