I went there for the first time 6/11/2012

I went there for the first time yesterday and I was not impressed at all. I ordered 2 filets of catfish...one blackened and one fried. The blackened piece was not done at all ( I could barely cut it with a butter knife). I sent it back and my new piece still wasn't completely done! Towards the end of eating the fried piece I discovered that parts of it were under cooked as well. The manager basically told us that the cook said it was ok and it was our ""opinion"" that the food wasn't cook well enough and she would not discount our bill. Isn't our opinion the only one that's counts since we have to eat and pay for it??? We refused to pay until something was done and she called the police! So in the end I ended up paying full price for a partially cooked meal, suffered the embarrassment of the police being called because we were standing up for what was right, and then the manager had the nerve to say that we weren't welcome there anymore! As if we would ever set foot in a place that does not value their customers in the LEAST bit! Needless to say I am NEVER going back and I will be contacting someone else about this matter! They shouldn't get away with this type of low-grade, disrespectful service. more

BEWARE GIFT CARD SCAM!!!! 10/25/2010

Husband received a gift card for his birthday. We went to this restaurant to use the gift card. This had been a place that we enjoyed in the past but had gone down in service and food quality the last few times there. Service was once again very slow. waited forever. sat with empty drinks most of our meal. food was once again mediocre. catfish. really fishy, seafood cakes really fishy. sampler platter came barely cooked . breading white/not golden brown. i was so glad that we were not paying for this meal. and then when the check came we were informed that they were not accepting gift cards. they're were not any signs informing us of that posted. they claim it is on their website. unfortunately i didn't go on their website. the reason for not accepting the cards we were told was that they had a manager/employees that were taking peoples money, pocketing the money, loading the gift card, pocketing the gift card and giving the customer a card that was not loaded and had no value. we gave the server our gift card with the receipt (proof of payment). we were told that no one ever brings a receipt and they would call the owner. once they called the owner and were told that it didnt matter that we had a receipt ,our card numberdidn't match the number on the receipt. of course not!!! that's how they ran their scam!! so this is how it works. the owner is handling the situation by not accepting gift cards. That means as a customer that you on good faith bought gift cards for friends/relatives and handed the business your money. they gave you the card. You are out of the money you spent. the person you thought you were treating is out of the money for the meal that you bought for them and they have to pay for it....no signs. no warning. we were so upset that the owner knew we were scammed and didn't care. we had nothing to hide. we weren't in on this scam..it was all on their end and they knew it and didn't care. we even called the police. we ended up paying half. so our meal cost our friend 50.00. it cost us 20.00. Dixie kitchen and bait shop. manager/employees/owner received 70.00. what a scam. i will never go there again. tha'ts how the owner values my business. ha! so the SCAM continues! more

No Southern Hospitality Here 7/15/2008

Upon our arrival ,we were seated and waited patienly for our server. The atmosphere is quaint , like a swamp shack in the bayou. We then hear the Asst. Mgr. tell the hostess that she wasn't supposed to sit us in that area and that we would have to move. (Should've left then) We move to another table where we wait again for our server . She takes my order, 1 fried catfish fillet and 1 "grilled", I apologize and ask to change the grilled to "blackened". When my order arrives I get 1 blackened fillet and 1 grilled. I inform her this isn't what I ordered and requested a fried fillet. She returns and informs me that the Asst. Mgr. said once my order was placed I could not change it. They were unwilling to correct their own mistake! What happened to the customer is always right? Although I love the food @ Dixie Kitchen and have frequented both the Lansing and Hyde Park locations, I'll never go again. If you want good food and bad service, this is your spot!!!
