Great food, lots of rice, good portions such that I ate it for lunch the next day. The leftovers tasted even better. It's nice to see restaurants that have separate Vegetarian and Vegan dishes, rather than letting you assume that the two are the same. The vegan chickpea dish and the mixed vegetables were wonderful. The spinachy one was so-so. They delivered it during the snowstorm and only took 20 minutes! Impressive. more

Excellent food, easily one of the best Indian restaurants in Boston and the Diva special is great value. Unfortunately on delivery the ordered mango ice-cream was put with the rest of the food, so once delivered arrived as a liquid! Otherwise no complaints! more

Editorial review from GrubHub 11/15/2012

This was the first time we ordered from Diva. The lamb biryani was excellent, one of the best we've had in recent times. The vegetable biryani was OK, and so were the naan and the parathas. Unfortunately, we had ordered two servings of kheer, which we couldn't find in the packet delivered to us. We felt disappointed as we had paid for it and yet, could not serve desserts to our guests. However, we couldn't call grubHub at that time in the presence of guests. We have never had such an experience with a grubHub order before. In spite of this experience, we would order lamb biryani from Diva again. It was just too good. more

Love this place 4/6/2011

My family and I have enjoyed this place ever since we moved to the davis square area. The food is great! I always judge an Indian restaurant by their Mali Kofta. I love this restaurant's take on it. I craved Indian food throughout my pregnancy, and this place always satisfied. The decor is nice (I don't understand the negative comments about the decor.) The servers and the manager are nice, and this was the first restaurant we took our daughter too when she was little. She liked looking out the window. It was kid friendly to us at 5pm. I""ve taken visiting family to this restaurant and they also loved the place. I think some people are being really unfair about this restaurant. I think it says more about the reviewers than the restaurant. more

For an exotic trip for your tastebuds 3/11/2010

Had a buywithme gift certificate for $40 and went on a Monday night and sat in the lounge. The $40 covered 7 tapas, 2 drinks, a meal, and a dessert. Went with my best friend and it was the perfect amount of food. Great atmosphere, though completely dead, we were the only people in the lounge for the majority of the meal - seats were comfortable - on the less busy nights good for first dates. Less impressed with the bartender's service - she was engaged in conversation and it took me approaching the bar to get water refilled, appetizers, and even dessert. Our main meal: Chicken Tikka Masala - absolutely awesome - the ""medium"" was not very spicy (so keep that in mind when ordering) but it was amazing - tasted like basil tomato cream sauce - more italianish than indian. The tapas we ordered were also great, and all $1!!!: lamb sliders cheese and mushroom samposa mini cheese dosa especially good - kali mirchi kar tikka: chicken with crushed pepper in a delicious sauce... Never have gone for the nightclub aspect - but its worth a early week treat! Pros: flavor, and atmosphere Cons: needed a bigger table for all my food!! more

Poor Service, Bad Service, Worst Service 2/14/2010

Saw the photos and decided to try it out. Waited at the desk for 5 minutes before the manager came and note my name in the wait list. He had no customer service. He saw me there waiting and just walked past a few time before finally deciding to attend me. The table we were given was near to the kitchen and washrooms with waiters going in and out all the time. We were very next to the part of the kitchen were a guy was making nan bread within 2 ft of our table. We requested table change which was given to us after some delay. No waiter came to serve us there for 15 minutes. No one even served us water. I had to go and fetch one to my table. Another couple sitting next to us had the same problem, no one was coming to attend them. They took this opportunity and placed their order with the same waiter. Food came out in reasonable time. However the quality and test was below par. We left the place half hungry. Same wait time for the check to arrive and the card to return. Would definitely not recommend the place. The problem is waiters DONT HAVE designated areas and I guess the tip must be distributed among all. So no one paid any special attention. You had to shout to get a waiter at your place. POOR SERVICE, OK AMBIANCE, OK FOOD. Pros: Hard to find Cons: Service, Food more

Neighborhood Gem for Davis 2/8/2010

First Indian restaurant i've been to in years and I had a great time! Dali offers a four-course prie fixe menu that is relatively cheap with tons of options and I suggest you take advantage. This was a great way to re-introduce myself to Indian food. They also give you plenty of naan and the tandoori chicken is very good.\r \r Wonderful decor with a partially open view kitchen, tin ceilings, and comfy booths. In the summer they have hookah service and next door there's a new-age bubble-themed lounge that is so strange you really have to go see it for yourself.\r \r Can't say enough good things about Dali, except that the service was pretty slow when we were there....something every review seems to mention and definitely a trend amongst all the One World eateries i've been to.\r \r Definitely a good place to check out!\r Pros: Great food, good prices, fun atmosphere Cons: slow service, menu can be confusing more

Terrible food and worst service! 8/17/2009

I waited so badly to walk out but I had to stay 15 minute just to pay the bill.Think twice before u go in. more

Better to order take-out 7/26/2009

I went there tonight after saw a movie with my friends in Sommerville theater. It looks nice from outside, but after I was seated, I would never want to come here again. The host didn't even smile at all; the seat was not comfortable and sticky; table was shaking all the time. After I told the host about changing a table, he just totally ignored me and put some pad under the table. After we ordered, I was surprised that the food was tasty and served pretty fast. But the service was terrible. For the whole time, I cannot figure out which waiter should take care of my table because there were four or five waiters come around to take the check. The host didn't say anything when we were eating until we gave the tips. Terrible service but good food... Pros: yummy food Cons: horrible service more

Fingers Crossed 10/14/2008

My wife and I have been eating at and very much enjoying Diva for many years. We discovered it just before Shalimar closed for renovations. Indian food is about the food and Diva has always been satisfying until last weekend. The pakora were hard as rocks and the chicken tikka were dried out. We have never encountered this before and are wondering if it is a bump in the road or if the good Diva is gone. Pros: Long history of good food. Cons: Last week the food was inedible. What does this mean? more

Never again 8/20/2008

\r Diva has really gone down hill. The service was atrocious, our waiter barely spoke to us, and when my wife who had never had Indian food before asked him a question about the menu he mumbled something unintelligible and pretended he didn't understand. The bread sampler basket we ordered had almost no flavor. I'm not sure how you can mess up Nan, but they were dried out and tasted like they were shaken around in a bag of charcoal. The Tandori chicken my wife was ordered was drier than the Nan while my dish was ok, it just didn't have much flavor. \r \r I had to get up and ask the host for refills on our water because the waiter never came back to the table, and when my wife finished with her drink, she found there was a fly in one of the ice cubes. The host comped her drink but that was it. We will never go there again. The next time my wife decides to give Indian food a shot we'll brave the wait at Punjabs instead.\r Pros: The atmosphere while load is nice. Cons: Service, Food more

Hippest Bar in Somerville 8/3/2008

Hands down, this is the best bar in Somerville so far as I'm concerned. The drinks are great and the bartenders cool, and it's the only bar in Somerville that has any sense of design. It's not your typical Somerville dive with cheap drinks- if that's what you're looking for and you have the aesthetic sensibilities of frat students, look elsewhere. Pros: Ambience, Drinks more

Great Food and Atmosphere 8/3/2008

I don't know what some of the other users are complaining about- especially when it comes to the waiters. I've been to Diva several times- the food has always been great, and the service very good and the waiters polite. Moreover, the restaurant is one of the nicest in terms of atmosphere in all of Somerville. Pros: Food, Atmosphere more

Fake Indian restaurant 7/6/2008

Service is discriminated. The servers have zero knowledge of what they are serving.Food is not authentic.\r I mean they dont even know that 'pav bhaji' is served with 'pav' and not 'roti'. If you are looking for Indian food, there are lot of places far better than diva in Boston . And please dont support these kind of restaurants where service is biased and food is not authentic. more

Valentine's Day 2/15/2008

Last night, Valentine?s Day, was the best night of my life?until entering Diva Bistro. Actually it began the day before, we called for reservations and were told it was walk-ins only when they were really completely booked with reservations.\r \r On the day of, my (now) fiance and I had spent a lovely afternoon together. We arrived at Diva without being greeted, then finally told that there was nothing they could do, even though we were willing to wait at the bar for as long as needed. After watching others who walked-in after us were seated before us, we were offered the (dirty) table of another customer who left, right in front of the door.\r \r We chatted with the couple next to us for a half an hour before grabbing one of the bussers (that were continually running into my chair and knocking my purse onto the floor) to ask for a waiter and clean silverware. He said nothing about a waiter be un-politely told us? ?No, that is clean,? and walked off?I assure you, I saw the previous occupant with this silverware and it was NOT clean. \r \r Next we grabbed our favorite host who, after looking annoyed for a moment, turned over his reservation list and so ?what do you want?? We attempted to order the most expensive diner that comes with a choice of soup, entree and desert?but tonight, he said, we could not have our choice. It was too loud for the kitchen to hear orders so we had to have the basics?WHAT?!? Not only that, but the basics were described as ?spicy hot? on the menu and after arguing for five minutes about this I told him I wanted nothing and please just go away. We immediately went to a manager?who did NOT offer to pay for our drinks, but instead just said, ?but you have a table.? I?m not sure how we were supposed to respond but I chose to leave.\r \r DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT EAT HERE! THEY ARE RUDE RUDE RUDE! I apologize for the need to write four paragraphs but after having the greatest night of my life ruined, I felt warranted. \r \r more

Food Allergy Alert 1/31/2008

Their interior design is impressive, the drinks are interesting....but if you have any food allergies, don't set foot in Diva. After asking my waiter (twice), then the host(twice), then the Manager - none of them could fathom what a food allergy was, or tell me what kind of oil they cooked in. Fairly simple question I think. \r \r And after making several inquiries, our server and his version of service (if you can call it that) got worse (if that's possible). The manager didn't even bother to apologize, or offer to pay for our drinks.\r \r Don't bother. Go down the block to Namaskar instead. more
