Delicious food, brisk lunch service 3/4/2011

Service was brisk. Our waiter couldn't wait to take our order. Our water glasses were continuously refilled. Tried the 2-course lunch special. The traditional red lentil soup was a puree and does not contain whole lentils, as I was expecting. It was nonetheless very flavorful and not too salty. For my main entree, I had the grilled chicken brochette. The large chicken chunks were very moist and tender. My friend started with the organic Turkish salad. I didn't like the dressing, I found it overwhelmed the greens, a bit too much dressing perhaps. Her grilled chicken chops looked like my dish except that it was not skewered pieces of chicken. The rice pilaf was very buttery. I would recommend this place. more

Medium food, okay service, not especially exciting 10/10/2010

The menu was different at the restaurant than the one online, so beware of making a decision to go here based on what you see on their website. The food was not especially bad or good, the service was energetic, but a bit frantic. All in all it was a mediocre experience. The mezza especially left a lot to be desired, but like I said, not good, not bad. more

Delicious Food, Unpredictable Service 8/26/2010

I have worked near this location for almost 8 years and can say that the food is consistently good, but cannot vouch for the service. \r \r I dined here for many years for lunch or dinner and found these gems on the menu: \r \r Appetizer: could skip all apps, they are ok\r Salad: Cappadokia Salata (AMAZING)\r Entree: Don't remember the name but it's chicken (no dark meat) with mushrooms and a yogurt sauce - One of the best meals in NYC, If you like lamb I hear this is also very good (lamb kebabs)\r Dessert: Poached Pear with Cloves ...best desert ever, but share because it's super sweet\r \r After raving to family and friends about this place, I had some out of town guests who demanded I take them here. Much to my disappointment the service was terrible to the point of having a VERY rude waiter who was practically telling them what he thought they should order and then having the worst attitude if they didn't (practically through a glass of water at us). I had never seen this person nearby but I can say that I haven't been back since because of this embarassment. \r \r I used to go here a lot more after work and never had this issues - conclusion: food is well worth the trip but try to stick to weekdays for friendly service. more

Tasy Food 7/28/2008

Food is very tasy. The lamb kabab over rice is very good. The baklava is a little on the sweet side. Overall, I would come back to this place. Pros: Good location. Good food. more

Horrible experience with the delivery. Ordered lunch to serve to guests and it took the delivery person over 2 hours to arrive! Of course, I declined the order because on a day when the temperatures were scorching hot, there was no way that I could serve guest food that had been in such heat for so long. Very disappointed. more

Excellent option in NY 3/9/2008

My wife and I ate here the other night and it was as fantastic as we had heard. The menu is complex, full of flavor and extremely reasonable. It feels like you are fine dining until you get the check which is never a bad thing in New York! The Shish Kabobs were the best I have ever had (sorry Greeks) and there is just something a little different about how turks do lamb that is so delicious. Great place! Pros: Romantic, Great food, Good Value more

Not for Delivery for sure 10/26/2007

Placed an delivery order today, the food was dlivered an hour later cold, over-cooked. Arugula salad wasn't washed well, still contained dirts, and roots attached. Kabab from the stand on the streets are much better choice. more

Best Turk 7/24/2007

When my friend first introduced me to the Turkish culture a few years ago, I wasn't sure what to expect regarding cuisine. After a few and misses of restaurants we found Dervish and it has become one of our favorite places for dinner - when the mood for Turkish food \r \r Turkish food is favorful, tasty and healthy. One of my personal favorite entrees is the CHICKEN ADANA KEBAB which is Hand Chopped Chicken meat, seasoned with spicy red pepper, onion, and garlic. Flavored with cumin than char-grilled on a skewer, served with bulgur pilaf over pita bread. It is absolutely wonderful. And when a TURKISH SALAD (which contains chopped tomato, cucumber, pepper and onion; tossed with lemon, vinegar and extra-virgin olive oil) is added...it makes for a complete, satisfying and mouth-watering meal.\r \r Due to the restaurant's location, it makes for an excellent pre-theater dinner restaurant, and, Dervish even offer's a three course special for $22.95 per person running from 4pm - 7:30pm \r \r The restaurant is clean with an upscale feel. The decor is simple with Turkish touches throughout the restaurant. Reservations are recommended on weekends.\r \r What You Might Not Know: There is a parking garage right across the street, unknown to many, Dervish offers a discount parking rate to those who park at the ICON Park garage and dine at Dervish. more

Excellent Restaurant 7/13/2007

Excellent Dinner\r I was celebrating my birthday at Dervish. We found this restaurnt on the menupages this is really great restaurant with a great food and great service. They known for their fish, so we tried the fish and it was the best fish I ever had. Also as an appetizer we tried grilled Octopus, it was wonderful and fresh. All food was very fresh and tasty. I really recommend this restaurnt for a date or for a small group of people. I will defintely come back again and more

Beautiful and delicious\r This is the best restaurant! There are two side by side but are the same. One is smaller and seems trendier, the other larger and brighter. The food is fantastic. Lamb chops are good. Their whole grilled fish are superb as is the appetizer for two which features many urkish options. Delicious! The baklava is good, The rice pudding and kunefe is the best! \r \r \r more

Answer to jesfrieds review 4/6/2007

I have been a regular of Dervish for a number of years. One thing that i noticed, besides the tasty food about the restaurant was its cleaniness. I even had a chance of meeting the owner and he told me that they leave the kitchen door open on purpose, proudly to show customers how clean their kitchen is at all times. So your review contradicts my observations and does not realy sink in as a fair or honest review.I don't think that insects wichever kind they maybe(since you did not specify) would be easily flying or crowling around in the middle of operations hours. more

Worst Turkish Rest. 4/5/2007

Its service and its staff is very bad.It seems so luxury and clean but if you go to the kitchen you can see lots of insects.I don't plan to go again. more

delicious, every time 12/7/2006

We go to this restaurant everytime we visit Manhattan. The service is always excellent, as well as the food. This last visit, I had the Sultan's Chicken Delight with pureed eggplant...it was delicious.\r Pros: delicious food, attentive staff Cons: the TV is distracting more

Amazing Place 10/2/2006

Dervish is truly one of those amazing NYC restaurants, and not just trendy hype. The food is absolutely phenemonal. In our party of seven, we had an opportunity to try many items on the menu and every single dish we ordered, from appetizer to dessert was fantastic! The dishes have plenty of food on them, the restaurant is gorgeous, the service is great (although we waited a while for our drinks). Our party of seven was seated comfortably. The service was professional, friendly and helpful! Except for the restaurant being just a bit too dark, and a little noisy (probably because everyone at their table is raving about the food), this was a truly fantastic evening out all around. I have not been to a restaurant in NYC in a while which exceeded my expectations in every category more

Great Service 9/29/2006

I think this is the best Turkish restaurant in the city. Everything from service to food was flawless. The place is beautiful and full of class. You must go and try it for yourself. They also provide a Excellent wine list. The only word I can think of for this place is ""perfection"". \r Pros: Great Value more
