Editorial review from Citysearch 11/18/2013

I have been a patient of Dermatology Associates for the past 6 years. Thanks to Dr. Ross' careful screening she caught a life threatening melanoma on my arm. Her gentle and thorough approach put me at ease. After the biopsy confirmed the melanoma, I was scheduled for surgery soon thereafter. It was quick and painless. The staff at Dermatology Associates has been consistently friendly and professional. 5 stars! Highly recommend. more

Wonderful - saved my skin! 7/31/2010

I was referred to Dermatology Associates by a neighbor after exhausting other Family Practice and Urgent Care practitioners regarding a horrible blistering rash and severe acne on my face. I had been misdiagnosed by other practitioners and placed on preventative antibiotics - no one really telling me what was going on with the disfiguring rash on my face. However, I called Dermatology Associates and explained my situation and I was given an appointment within the hour. I saw Holly Rasmussen, PA-C and was treated with respect, compassion, and understanding. She reassured me that what I had was treatable and that scarring would not be an issue. I was having an allergic reaction to acne products that contained a medication I am highly allergic to internally. I was placed on steroids and antibiotics that day and the rash began to disappear slowly over the course of 3 days. I have struggled with acne for 17 years and my skin has never been better! Holly put me on a regimen that has completely controlled my breakouts (I don't even know when the last one was) and rosacea - I have the BEST complexion I've ever had in my life! Dr. Ross was called in during my initial visit as a second opinion and she was caring, compassionate, and reassured that they would be able to help me. Pros: Approachable, knowledgeable, compassionate Cons: Depending on time of day the parking may be limited more

Unfair review 7/21/2010

This is Drs. Hester and Ross of Derm Associates. We stongly object to being called racists! First, Dr. Hester was called in to see the patient in order to get her a second opinion, to give her the highest quality care possible. If she let us know she was uncomfortable, we would have immediately offered a heartfelt apology, but nothing was said. The rest of the statements were either never said or misquoted. The patient did not get the cream she wanted because it was not medically correct to use in her situation. To call us racist is the furthest thing from the truth. more

Overt Racism 5/10/2010

I choose Dr Ross because she seemed creditable and female. I was feeling depressed about my skin and not understanding the cause of my skin condition. It appeared to me that I had developed some sort of rash that I never had before. When I arrived on time the office staff was very cold and not friendly. When Dr. Ross began to examine me she took a sample of skin (a scraping of skin) to have examined. She said she knew I was cold and gave me a gown to wrap-up in while she was out of the examination room. She seemed understanding and kind at this point. Dr. Ross returned with a male doctor while I was undressed. I choose Dr. Ross because I was comfortable with female doctors! Dr. Ross DID NOT GET MY PERMISSION TO BRING IN ANY MALE DURING MY EXAMINATION. The male doctor told me who he was and WITHOUT MY PERMISSION began scraping my skin and discussed with Dr. Ross my possible skin condition, as if I was not in the room! I interrupted the doctors and asked Dr. Ross what was my possible condition. She said to me that she would be right back and left with the male doctor. She returned in about 10 minutes. At this point I began to cry and was very nervous when she returned. Dr. Ross was very unresponsive to telling me was my skin condition. Her answer was I have 15 different color of skin. I am mixed with East Indian and Irish. Then I proceeded to explain to her that a friend of mind had almost the same skin condition and gave me a prescribed skin cream that had worked very well for my skin problem. Dr. Ross told me that the skin cream I had was for ""white people only"" when their skin get discoloration like my, with dark spots. She continued to say, ""we don't want anymore Michael Jacksons now, God rest his sole"". I told her I was not trying to be like Michael Jackson, I just wanted my skin return back healthy. I was very shock and sad that a doctor said that to me. She continued talking about people using petroleum jelly on their skin and suggested that I should not use expensive products on my skin because of perfumes in them and I should use ""cheap"" products-they don't have perfumes in them and a lot better for me. Then she just wrote me a prescription for an antibiotic and told me to come back in one month. I felt much worse then, than before coming to this doctor appointment. I refuse to use this prescription from this doctor and I will never come back here. Further, I will never recommend this doctor or this clinic to my worse enemy. Dr. Ross' advertisement should say ""MINORITIES NOT WELCOME"". A person should not go to a doctor and not get an answer to a medical condition and then get denigrated to the point of shame. Pros: No Pros for this doctor Cons: Unprofessional more

Dr. Ross and Staff 4/16/2010

Dr. Ross listened to my concerns very well, but then rushed through my full body exam and mole check, not telling me WHY moles I thought seemed suspicious weren't. Now I don't know when to come in next. I feel like she listened, or at least heard what I said, but didn't teach me about moles that would be suspicious for cancer as I had inquired about. The front office staff is not very warm. I know that this is not the most important thing in a visit, but it certainly makes a difference. I have worked in customer service my entire life and now as an RN believe that secretaries have just as much importance in patient and family care as we clinicians do. A smile means a lot. Pros: clean environment, Dr. Ross listens to concerns Cons: rushes through a complete body exam, office staff rude more

Recently unprofessional 8/12/2009

I have been to this clinic about 6 times over the years to have mole check-ups, and a couple cysts removed. The *doctors* have always been very kind and thorough but the office waits are usually long (even when arriving at the appointment time). Today I was 5 minutes (according to their clock) late for a 3:45 appointment due to unusually heavy traffic and was told that the doctor had already left because I was not there at 3:45. I do admit that I was a little late, but they do not even give a 5 minute grace period? The worst part though was the office admin who was very clearly, and loudly, making sure I knew it was my fault. Because of her attitude I will not be going to this clinic again. UPDATE: I called the office this morning to make sure that I would not be charged for the appointment. They assured me I would not be charged, and the new person I talked to seemed sympathetic to my situation. About an hour later I got a call from another person in the office who was very apologetic and offered to have a doctor come in on their day off just so they could see me the next day. I think they are sincerely trying to make the situation ""right"" and therefore I am giving them another chance. Pros: quality doctors Cons: Poor office staff more

First Visit 3/22/2009

I went in for a mole check and expected a more intense head to toe review but got a more general checkup. Dr. Ross is a very kind person and sat and listened to my questions. I was relieved after I left that some mole concerns were not as bad as I thought. However, the front desk receptionist was really a grump. She never made eye contact and acted like I was just another annoyance to her. I asked her questions and she appeared frustrated that I was even asking her anything. She needs to find a job that doesn't deal with people. Pros: Dr was very comforting Cons: Office staff was horrible more

Dr Marla Ross and staff 3/13/2009

It was my first visit ever and she spent about 10 minutes looking me over for skin cancer and then suggested laser surgery for spider veins on my face but didn't really spend time explaining anything. I felt like she was definitely rushing me and for a first visit I expected more. Pros: Clean office, saw me quickly Cons: Dr Ross takes too little time more

Great doctor and team for hair restoration. 9/5/2008

I'd highly recommend Dr. Ross and her staff for hair restoration surgery. My brother and I are in mid-40's and got our hair done the same month. He flew out of state and did it with some docs who'd worked with the show Extreme Makeover. I stayed here and went with Dr. Ross. Our results and experiences were equivalent, and my procedure was slightly less expensive. It's also been nice to follow up with Dr. Ross, an excellent dermatologist, to make sure my scalp stays healthy. My brothers team did more grafts all at once, and I chose to do it in two procedures. I'm glad I did it that way because you can let the first transplant grow in and then decide if you need the second one, and where and how to do the 2nd one. The team is great. I think they have 6 -7 people working around you all day. It's a long procedure, I was in there 9 hours, but they are very pleasant and professional and make the time go quickly. I just watched movies and napped. The room is comfy. They didn't complain about staying after hours because my procedure went extra long. I quickly got a sense this place is run like a tight ship and pleasant yet very professional. Even the up-front receptionist was professional and helpful when it turned out my payment card had a brief snafu. There are several lead nurses that have been doing this a long time and they know their stuff. Dr. Ross is direct and clear with expert information and options. Also it turns out Dr. Ross is a national expert on hair restoration and something like the national chair of examiners for hair replacement surgeons. The procedure isn't painful, you have local anesthesia and some sedatives and stay pretty relaxed. The first few days it's hard to sleep because you have a scar in the back of your head that hurts. But it's fine after that. Nobody ever notices the scar, it's a very fine scar, and the transplanted hair grows in so gradually that people don't notice a sudden change. All in all I'm very glad I went with Dr. Ross. more
