I'm not going to lie to you, I typically avoid Denny's as a general rule, because I think we've all come to love it as the last-resort, open at three-in-the-morning, lousy food joint available everywhere. I mention this, because I think it sets the bar for my level of expectation from the average Denny's experience, which is very low, to say the least.
Nevertheless, I have visited the Denny's at 777 West Lake Mead Parkway, located inside the Fiesta Casino, several times since it replaced its predecessor, a restaurant that was actually pretty good. My past three visits, scattered over several months, have been pretty lousy. It's never as busy as the staff makes it seem, the service lacks big-time, and the food is, well, mediocre at best.
My father and I dined there around 12pm this afternoon, and had Andrea as our server. Now let me say, she was very polite and courteous, but she rarely visited our table. Her section didn't appear to be very busy, but that shouldn't really matter, because as Mr. Pink reminds us,
'The words too [expletive] busy shouldn't be in a waitress' vocabulary.' When the check was dropped off during the I-won't-be-back phase, halfway through the meal, I figured I'd better let her know that we were going to be interested in dessert. She assured us she'd be back. 5 minutes after food consumption was complete, the soda was empty and the coffee was cold. No Andrea. At the ten-minute mark, I'd stacked the plates on the edge of the table. At fifteen, we gave up, though she noticed us as we left and made a comment about us leaving before she could 'take care of us' for dessert. By then, it was too late. We were on the move. At least we got an extra 3 minutes to reconsider at the cash register, as nobody was around - completely derelict. The poor gentleman in front of us had been there a few minutes prior. There must've been a dozen employees milling around that place, and no more than 10 tables being served. What's the big fail?
Lucky for us, there was a Dairy Queen willing to take our dessert order just a few blocks away.
