Best dance school 6/27/2007

My daughter and I have been going there for a number of years. I have taken from Ms. Vicky and Ms. Denise. My daughter has improved so much in the years she has been taking there. All the teachers are exceptionally nice. My daughters teacher this year saw much improvement in her and began private lessons with her to strengthen a few things. Ms. Denise was my tap teacher this year and explained things to where it was understandable to us. All the teachers there are wonderful and such down to earth people. The dancers there are sweet kids and we have come to know some of them and their families. I highly recommend this dance school. I also have a younger son who was allowed to come into the classroom with me while I took class. Like I said just the nicest people. Pros: superb dance instruction, great people who attend there more

By Far the Best!!! 5/14/2007

Let me preface by saying, I have attended many other studio's dance recitals, and have seen many other area dance studios perform in competitions...NOTHING COMPARES TO DENISE WALL'S DANCE ENERGY! Their show at the Harrison Opera House is an entertaining mix of beautiful baby ballerinas, to professional level dance performances by the ""elite dancers"" in their dance company. The dance company is amazing to watch, and will leave you speechless! Denise Wall, Vicky Cooke, and the entire faculty are dedicated to making each and every dancer the best they can be. They have trained, and continue to train some of the best dancers in the country. Denise Wall's Dance Energy is a nationally renowned and well respected studio. They hold many national titles, and were selected by Dance Spirit and Dance Teacher Magazines, as one of the ""BEST DANCE STUDIO'S IN THE U.S. AND CANADA"". Even with all that, this dance studio is definitely for EVERYONE, not just ""elite dancers"" as some of the other posts have said. How do you think those kids became ""elite dancers""?....They certainly didn't walk through the door that way. Denise, Vicky, and the rest of the faculty begin training dancers PROPERLY from the start. All the teachers are well qualified and work from a curriculum designed by Denise. This studio is all about DANCE...business and profits are secondary. Denise puts in endless hours at the studio for little or no money, and is basically like a second mom to the kids she trains. She evaluates each student individually for class placement, and does not place students in classes by years of experience or age. Denise will not appease a parent or student by putting them in a class they don't belong in, she would rather lose a customer than sacrifice the quality and technique that her studio offers. This may seem harsh, but it's what makes her successful. So if you?re looking to get the BEST dance training for your child, then Denise Wall's Dance Energy is the only place to be! Pros: professional level training in a fun creative environment more

For ALL types of dancers 11/7/2006

Denise Wall's Dance Energy is a studio not only for the casual dancer starting out as a beginner, but also a studio for serious dancers. I should know first hand, because i came from another studio, that will remain nameless, in Virginia Beach. Though it took very much time to reverse the material i had learned incorrectly, Denise, Vicky, and the rest of the staff worked to help me relearn everything the correct way. I wish I would have been there and grown up from a small child through their program, because i have been there to witness what Denise can do with young children. The entire staff, even the two owners, Denise and Vicky, teach beginner level classes and work with kids one-on-one breaking down concepts so each child can process the information. I recommend that parents get their children to Dance Energy at an early age if they don't want to waste their money at these ""7-11"" dance studios that seem to be just convenient because they're right around the corner. I don't quite understand the comments that have been made thus far about saying that not a lot of attention is paid to the little kids. Denise and Vicky's staff work off of a curriculum that is meant to build a strong foundation for all of the little kids. If they didn't make sure they were paying attention to such details, how could they possibly create those dancers that have gone off to professional careers? Pros: Everything more

Absolutely wonderful training -- if you're serious about dance. 7/9/2006

THIS IS NOT A SCHOOL FOR THE CASUAL DANCER. I do agree that not a lot of attention is paid to the little kids. That said, if a student is serious, there is simply no better place in Hampton Roads to get the proper training. The owners have many people who have gone on to major careers, personally know anyone who is anyone in the field, and once a student demonstrates discipline and commitment, they are extremely helpful, honest, and supportive. I have found them actually surprisingly SELFLESS (i.e. both owners separately telling me my daughter has great ballet potential, but when older would have to leave the area to take her training to the level needed to make her competitive in the ""big leagues""). How many other studio owners would be this forthright to their down detriment? more

Rude, Unorganized, not customer service friendly 6/11/2006

You will be treated like your contribution by having someone enrolled in a beginners class monthly is nothing because the elite of their dancers are given preferential treatment and are most important when in fact eh classes are the bread and butter that keep the place running. The own will not acknowledge or introduce her self to you ever, the teen students/elite dancers are rude and do whatever they please to include verbally attacking waiting mothers with children in classes. The pre recital events are unorganized and outfits are not in and the recital is a week away. Parents have removed their children already. Am looking as well and will not be going back. more
