horrible food and uninterested in fixing it 11/25/2007

I ordered Lobster in Phyllo. Lobster, shrimp, baby shrimp, baby scallops were all overcooked; I just expect something at least edible when you're basically eating on the water. The GM was fairly rude and acted as if he did not believe me. I wish I could say just go there for drinks and appetizers, since the views are so beautiful but the drinks and apps weren't very good either. Just don't bother, there's so many other places close by. Pros: Beautiful view especially at night, interior, wait staff Cons: chewy food, rude manger, way overpriced more

Never going there again! 5/16/2007

I wanted to take my family out to eat for lunch on that day to somewhere fun and interesting and since my family came from out of town I thought that Pier 39 sounded great. We get to Dantes and were greated by a somwhat older women who I later found out was the General Manager of the establishment and she look like she was having a personal phone call and told us to hold on. I didn't mind so we waited for five minutes while this women talked on the phone and then I asked again since there was no one in the restaurant and she snapped at me and told me to wait a minute. Now I thought that was rude, everyone knows that when you're at work you should leave your personal life at home. But a young lady came and greeted us and sat us down. The server came in a moment and was really friendly, I think his name was Larry. Took our drink orders which took forever because there was no bartender, and to top that they were made poorly, didn't taste so good. We ordered some appetizers, crab cakes and calamari, which 2 silver dollar size crab cakes for $8.50 was ridiculous and the calamari was under cooked. Not off to a great start but the server kept us smiling and talking with us so that was the only pleasent thing there. Then food was half cold, that being 2 orders of fish and chips, and the hamburgers were way over cooked. My mother asked for medium rare and she got well done, same with my sister and we told this to the GM of the restaurant who acted like she didn't care, being very rude and preoccupied with something else walked away and nothing was done. The server came back and changed our food but the 2nd time wasn't any better! We finally just gave up, ate what we could, paid and went on our way knowing that we were never coming back to this placce ever again. I don't know what kind of place would have GM who could care less about the customers, that t my family and i was too much. So don't ever go there! I don't recommend! Pros: Server, View Cons: Management, food more

What arrogancy! 6/4/2006

""Are you here for lunch?"" ""yes, there's 8 of us and we'd like to have lunch if the wait is not long"" ""No problem, go upstairs, there's no wait"". Turns out wait is ""between 15 and 20 minutes"". After 15 minutes, still ""15 to 20 minutes"". We waited a total of 40 minutes, while 2/3 of all tables were empty. As they called us in, menu switched from lunch to dinner - same thing, 30% more expensive. I complained to the manager, he said he can't do anything because the ""computer switched to dinner already"" and that if I don't like it, we can come some other time. I just told him we were waiting for 40 minutes, we had 4 kids, so we stayed on, but never again. Pros: Location Cons: Arrogant staff, Long waits, Kid unfriendly more

I came to SF and all I got was this lousy meal 5/27/2006

We had high expectations since the previous evening we had dined at Pier Market on Pier 39, which was awesome. Dante's was the worst dining experiences in SF. The food choices were not spectacular and pricey as compared to other restaurants on the pier (like $8.50 for two crab cakes the size of silver dollars). The bread was not crusty sourdough bread, but cold and greasy. The seafood was fresh, but no one raved about the dishes. They added a $1 per person SF Minimum Wage Charge. Maybe everyone is doing it, but this was the first restaurant we went to that listed it as a line item on the bill. Other restaurants offer the same views with much better food at better prices. If you are looking for a good seafood restaurant on the pier, go elsewhere. Pros: Location Cons: Food, Price more

If there was a flavor for ""nothing"" 6/19/2005

At Dante's, I experienced the blandest Fisn n' Chips I've ever had in my life. The fish literally tasted like nothing. Fries were good when not soggy, and coleslaw was decent. Clam chowder was watery and had an odd, sweet, almost sour taste. My girlfriend had an expensive, somewhat tasty, but small spinich and prawns salad. Generally, the seafood back home was much better than Dante's, which is pretty sad since I'm from Ohio. There are plenty of other restaurants with better views. Our waitress seemed a bit aloof and impatient. While we were eating, there was another group of diners very upset about something with their food, having a heated discussion with management. Pros: Bread, No wait Cons: Food, Prices, Food more

Nothing special 10/5/2003

My bf and I went to Dante's for dinner on a not-so-busy Saturday night. The decor is not romantic and more family like. We ordered two seafood platters- seafood, halibut, salmon, shrimp and steak. Each item's flavor was simply OK. Nothing to recommend to friends, nothing memorable. The service was quite poor even though there were empty tables everywhere. They did not give us bread while we were waiting for food- the other tables got bread- and they didn't refill our water. It was really hard to flag down the waitress who never returned to our table to see how we were doing. Nothing fab about this place whatsoever. more

It's a Must for Dinning! 8/29/2002

8/16/02, My wife and I were in Frisco to celebrate our 15th aniversary. We choose Dante's because it offered a view of the bay. The food was outstanding, with service to match. The view, well that added to the atmosphere and was a plus. Clean, inviting, EXCELLENT !!! IF you are going to pier 39, lunch or dinner is a must!
