Worst I have ever been treated in a restaurant 1/22/2009

I seldom write restaurant reviews, but do rely on them. Today I felt compelled to share my experience. I am 60 years old. I have never been treated so poorly as I was at Dalia's. My husband and I had dined there 4-5 times because it is local. On my last visit we told the waitress when we ordered that we had a meeting to attend and could she please take that into consideration. She said she would tell the kitchen. We ordered a salad and when the entrees had not arrived 30 minutes later, we asked her if our food could be packed to go. We were not loud; we didn't make a scene; we didn't ask to complain to anyone. After we paid including a tip, someone came out from the kitchen with our food and told me (my husband had gone to get our car) not to come back. She said, ""We are a fine dining restaurant; take your business elsewhere."" I was dumbfounded and must have looked it and she repeated that we were not welcome there. Never in my life have I been thrown out of any business establishment. We did nothing that deserved that kind of rudeness. Certainly at other restaurants over the years because of theater tickets or other obligations, we have occasionally asked to have service expedited and either told it was not possible or accommodated, but no paying customer desires to be treated like this at a 'fine dining' establishment or any business that cares about its reputation. I would strongly recommend that people stay away from this restaurant if they want a pleasant experience. Pros: food is creatively prepared Cons: service is slow and rude more

Great Rehearsal Dinner 1/10/2009

What all ""Bistros"" should strive for 11/19/2008

My wife and I are pseudo regulars at Dalia's. We live at least 25 minutes away, but make the trip about every other month. We have eaten all over the world and usually dine at higher end restaurants and find Dalia's is as good as the most expensive we have been to(and the prices are so reasonable). Don't expect a large doggy bag as the portions are what should be served, though we Americans don't realize that yet. With the rich sauces and finely seasoned food you will leave contented. Pros: Delicious food very reasonbly priced, Mediterranean style dining(not rushed), very cozy, comfortable temperature Cons: parking sometimes(not so much after Beacon St. improvements) more

Fun neighborhood gem, great staff, fantastic food, good wine selection 7/29/2008

I had been cuirious about Dalia's for years and finally went in last Friday night to check it out. I went with a friend and we wanted to hang out at the bar and have some dinner. The bartenders were fantastic. They allowed me to taste the wines because I was not sure what I wanted and really listened to what I liked. Good variety of wines by the glass, including one of the best dessert riesling I have ever had. The food was great. It was pretty empty, but we went in late and the staff said it is typically busier earlier and that many people come right off the T and go for a drink after work. There is outside seating available as well. While the menu is limited, both dishes ordered were excellent. I loved it so much, I made a reservation for Restaurant Week the next day. If you live in Washington Square, try it out! It's a great alternative to Publick House if you are looking for a bit of quiet and some great wine. Pros: Great wine selection, quiet, good food Cons: no TV. If you want to sit alone and eat, bring a book... more

really warm cozy place, but food is only mediocre 5/5/2008

The place is really cute, warm and cozy with pillows at the booth. The decor is really pleasing to the eyes and you feel calm and at ease. However, we waited quite a while for our food to come. For some reason, the people at the next table came into the restaurant after us but got their food first. The plating was nice, but taste was bland. The pork tenderloin doesn't have much taste, and they put too much lemon and caper on the pan seared salmon. The waitress is attentive tho. Overall, the place is nice and service is not bad, but the food needs a lot of improvement. Pros: the restaurant setting Cons: food was bland more

Love it! 3/13/2008

I just had to write a review after reading the post from 9/10/07. First of all 80 dollars for a Friday night dinner with all you had is nothing. If you wanted cheap then go for fast food. And you were there on Labor Day weekend..HELLO, maybe that is why it was slow. I know for a fact that all food is made to order and the freshest you will ever get. So 6 people in the dining room and a 2nd waitress was needed? You obviously needed too much attention and were probably a pain and just got aggravated is all. You don't even know how to spell restaurant or stomach and expect people to take your review seriously? And you said you tipped low even after you said the waitress was nice, that is not cool. Pros: Food Quality, wines by the glass more

Cozy ,sweet, reasonably priced spot with good food and wine 10/25/2007

I've been a regular since it opened years ago. This is a neighborhood place that everyone should have in their neighborhood! Attentive service, cozy room, good food and wine. And prices that make it an excellent standby for a casual mid-week dinner or a weekend with your honey. This is a special Brookline secret that deserves to be let out to the world! Pros: Comfortable, warm, delicious Cons: Parking can be a challenge, but the train stops right at the door! more

Worst dining experience in my life 9/10/2007

I read the other 9 reviews before heading to this place and was excited to hear it was a lot of people's current ""fave"". The place is small very cozy and the atmosphere is great. The waitress/hostess/bartender was very nice and sat us immediately but the place is clearly understaffed. No matter how small the place is, a second person in the dining room wouldn't have been too much to ask for. Pros: Cozy Atmosphere Cons: Everything else especially the quality of the food!!!! Worst ever! more

just overall good! 10/17/2006

we went on a thursday and were lucky enough to have a jazz ensemble come in at the end of dinner. the service was good without being overbearing. i LOVED my chicken dish with maple sauce, bacon and brussel sprouts! my boyfriend enjoyed his veal also. the wine was a good choice, and so was the port afterwards. my bf got an apple tart that was just delicious. great place for a relaxing night out with a loved one. Pros: ambience, food, quiet Cons: parking, kind of expensive more

Good food, quiet atmosphere 9/22/2006

I like that I can always get a table, the food is solidly good and the price is reasonable. I like this middle tier of place increasingly--good value as compared to the high end of Boston. more

Absolutely Amazing 4/14/2006

My boyfriend and I both work in fine dining, so we are super picky. We loved this place. The prices are really good, the food is exceptional, and the ambience is great. I could not reccommend it enough. Wine menu is extremely affordable. Pros: good value, ambience, service more

great taste 7/2/2004

I love this place, I have been dining here since it opened. All the food I have tried is wonderful! I really enjoy the Dalias salad and the filet of beef. My frineds all seem to love the scallops if I were somebody that ate fish I would too. The food is very high quality for the price, they have a well priced wine list. All the servers traet you very well, they never interupt or rush you. Pros: great service, decor, cozy more

Nice neighborhood place 8/18/2003

Dalia's is a nice, very romantic addition to Washington Square. The appetizers are really good, but the main dishes can vary a little in quality. Some are excellent, some merely good. The desserts have been wonderful every time I've gone. The service is friendly, if a little slow, but the well priced wine list and overall atmosphere make up for any deficiencies. Pros: Romantic, well-priced wines, good food Cons: Small space=long wait, service can be slow more

Good, but not what I expected 7/28/2003

The atmosphere was great, definitely a great date place. We were not seated immediately, eventhough we had a reservation. It was actually the guests who decided to take time to finish their water while there was a line of people at the bar. The owner/manager? was very apoligetic however and offered us a free drink. This was the one downside of the limited seating. The food was good, nothing too spectacular, but the cheesecake was one of the best I've had. I was disappointed in the wine selection/service. The waiter was unable to recommend or advise us on our wine selection. The management should have a least advised the staff on what to recommend. I probably won't be a regular patron but its worth a visit. Pros: atmosphere Cons: service more

Great Dinner 6/8/2003

I took my wife here for our anniversary. The atmosphere is great. Service was a tad slow - we waited for 15 mins and had three different people tell us they would be right with us - despite having a reservation - and no one else in front of us. Overall the food was great - and we had a great seat in the window overlooking the Square albeit rainy. Pros: Decor, Food Cons: Service more

My New Fave 5/8/2003

I must say this is the best new spot to dine. No rush, no attitude, delicious food and a wonderful selection of wines by the glass. The staff was very helpful in choosing wine with dinner and even offered a taste when I was not sure. They were very busy when I was there but I still felt as if I were the only table being served. This place is a ""perfect 10""! Pros: Great Service, Excellent Food more

Good food, price not entirely reasonable 4/21/2003

The CitySearch staff much be far more wealthy than me! The food was good--but really not so well priced in my book (comparable to Wash. Sq. Tavern, just around the corner). RE food: The lamb they mentioned was moist but more weakly spiced than I would have hoped. The salad with pear and gorgonzola, however, is DELICIOUS and the wine selection is very good. they even know what they're about when they serve it. The temperature was right for the wine and everything--rarest of the rare! Just note: for us mere up-and-coming professionals, this is not an inexpensive place for a meal. Pros: well-designed salad, great wine selection, great / kind service Cons: expensive more
