Word is that this is one of Russell Simmons' favorite Indian joints, and I'm scratching my head why. Even with their comprehensive list of vegetarian offerings, I feel that there are so many other places within a two block radius that could do better.
Sure, it's cheap and plentiful, but it's also greasy and lacking in flavor. This is a watered-down, "safe" alternative for how Indian food should taste. Pass on the biriyani, where the rice is bland, and the korma, which is like drinking a pint of cream. The hotter dishes like vindaloo are missing that distinction of spices, so all of them taste like the cooks just dumped a bottle of hot sauce in your dish. Even as that "safe" alternative, it is not a good start by which to judge Indian cuisine.
Pass.
