I lodged a complaint against this restaurant staff for their inhuman and disrespectful behavior towards women in 2008. They were investigated and found guilty. However the damage has been done to ones self respect. I urge every one who really respects themselves to avoid this place. I think Mr. KHAN needs to understand that in America you can't treat women like that and get away with it like he does where ever he comes from! more

Subpar Food and Racist Service 4/5/2011

Okay food and TERRIBLE (very RACIST) service. Avoid at all costs. Just go across the street to Dhaba or Cinammon for better food and service. Oh and read below for a crazy story about how racist and nasty the manager is! I have been going to Curry Leaf for about 6 years now. Typically the food had been good and the service had been lacking but I still went there anyway because I thought the food made up for the lacking service. BUT after my TERRIBLE experience with both food+service last week, I will never step in there again. I was thoroughly humiliated and infuriated at how racist the manager is. So, last week I ordered my paneer makhani and dal makhani (curries) to be medium spicy but they came out being incredibly spicy (HOT). It was so hot that my eyes started watering after just one bite. I tried eating the curry with rice and raita (yogurt) but still the spiciness was too much for me to handle. Let me also add that I am Indian and I can really take the heat in spicy curries. So, you can imagine how ridiculously hot the curry must have been! I complained to the waiter and he didn't really react or do anything about it. I ate a few more bites of the naan and rice (with very little curry), got the check, paid and gave a lower (10%) tip than usual (20%) because I was unhappy with both the food and the service. However, because I had been coming here for so long and had brought many friends to the restaurant, I wanted to give the manager (the guy that is also the bartender) some feedback. I went up to him and told him that this was the second time in a row my food had been VERY spicy and nothing was done about it which is why I left a smaller tip than usual (20%). He started yelling back and wouldn't let me get a word in. He said that I didn't tip well because I am Indian and I am cheap. I couldn't believe what he had just said. I replied that this had nothing to do with being Indian and besides I am American. He shouted back loudly in front of the entire restaurant on a Friday during dinner time saying ""No. You are Indian. You are cheap. Get out"". This behavior was totally uncalled for. The Manager was just outright nasty and racist to me when all I was trying to do was to help him by giving him feedback because his restaurant had failed to deliver twice in a row! Clearly, this man does not take feedback well. I was shocked and will advise all my friends to boycott this place. There are plenty of better Indian restaurants in the area. Hit them up instead and save yourself a heartburn and embarrassment. more

Chicken Tikka Masala was not so great 8/9/2008

Compared the chicken tikka masala here to that from Copper Chimney. This one had sauce that was watery and kind of greasy, whereas the copper chimney had a thicker sauce. For this dish, i would go elsewhere. Pros: Fast delivery more

Best of Curry Hill 3/26/2008

I've tried most of the places in the neighborhood, eating everywhere from Haandi to, well, places that closed because they didn't deserve to stay open. Yes, the portions are smaller. Yes, the food costs more. You might be inclined to think the money was spent on the interior design and perhaps it was. The reason you should go though is the food hands down rocks. It's not on par with Tamarind, but they don't try to be. Pros: Great food; Good for an intimate dinner or a group Cons: costs a little more than it's neighbors more

rude rude service; unless you are white anglo american 1/11/2008

Horrible service. I am never going back again! Our waiter was abrupt, cold and short with our table; weird attitude like he was too good to wait on us. I have been there several times and have noticed (and finally confirmed) a pattern - you get better service if you are white. I am so disgusted. To top it off - the white customers got free deserts while we did not. Try any of the many other Indian restaurants on the block. stay away!!!! more

Great food, lots of food, efficient service 10/11/2007

Curry Leaf Pros: Wonderful food, lots of food, great naan Cons: A little bit rushed. more

Good, cheap Indian food 9/30/2007

Went here with a first-time Indian food eater... so I was kind of nervous picking a place.. a friend suggested Curry Leaf and I was quite happy with my choice. The food was good, we got a table immediately (we went on a Wed night) and their menu, although not anything special, was pretty good. Pros: Low key atmosphere, cozy, good menu Cons: servers could've been a little more attentive more

Great and Affordable Indian 8/6/2007

With a million Indian restaurnts in Murray (Curry) Hill, this place is definitly where to go. The prices are lower than anywhere around, and the portions are bigger as well. I got the curry chicken and my boyfriend got the Tandori chicken with Naan. Both were very good, and great to eat with the rice and naan. The only thing which wasn't a great ending to the meal was that one of the pieces of my boyfriends tandori chicken wasn't cooked all the way. We showed it to the waitstaff and they claimed it was cooked, but took it back and gave us another piece. Pros: Food and Price Cons: tacky decor more

Strange 11/20/2006

The owner is a very friendly guy who knows how to treat customers. The staff however is another story. You get a slightly creepy feeling about them. I'm very suspicious every time I order from this place. I check and double check my bags and purchases to make sure I have everything and that there are ""foreighn objects"" in it. But I don't do that when the owner is handling things. Just the servers. They give me the creeps. Maybe they would prefer strictly indian customers. The food is ok though. Pros: Friendly owner, large portions, great sauces Cons: Shady servers more

good food, decent price 11/10/2006

the food was pretty good. the restaurant is located in an area where there are other indian restaurants to choose from. however, this pick was pretty good. quick and friendly service. the food was pretty good and the price was decent. the athomosphere was comfortable, warm, and cozy. worth a try! Pros: pretty good food, quick service Cons: not the cheapest indian food. more

Get Behind The Scene 10/10/2005

As part of a group of nine, I was recently treated to a tasty/courteous/all access lunchtime. Order some basics (Chicken Makhani/Sag Paneer), but save room for one of the restaurant's recommended specials: we tried a red sauced chicken bbq'd in one of the kitchen's clay pot ovens. Breads were hot to the touch and several types of yogurt lassis were offered (mango was the table's favorite, but try a salt lassi for a switch). Ask the owner, Kahn, nicely and you might just score a tour of his action packed kitchen space. Costs could be better - expect to be upsold by the hovering wait staff - and come for the authentic tastes, not the interior decor (looked a littel like Cheers!). Give Curry Leaf and it's authentic South Asian cuisine a try. Duck yesterday's scene across the street and eat where it's all about the food. Pros: huge menu, specially prepared Cons: pricey, waiters a bit pushy more

Won't be going back... 7/7/2005

The Curry Leaf was my favorite Indian restaurant in New York, but unfortunately I won't be returning anytime soon because the service was so bad. I can say that the food is delicious and the value is great. However, I took a good friend there for her birthday a few weeks ago and was so disgusted with how they treated us I will never go back. Among a number of things, they rushed us through our meal and as we were finishing our drinks our server held a running vacuum at our feet until we got up and left. I can appreciate wanting to go home but it was 10:30 on the dot (when they close) and I had already paid and tipped very well. I can highly recommend the food, but beware when looking for an ""enjoyable dining experience."" Pros: food, value Cons: poor service more

Very bad service!!!.. 3/21/2005

Although the food was good, the way our waiter treated us was so rude and bad-mannered that it almost ruined our night and he even asked us to give him a better tip!!! I would not recommend this restaurant 'cause it was not a good experience in general. Pros: Close to subway Cons: Service more

Good food and good prices 2/28/2005

As an indian person myself, this restaurant was well above average and the service was also pretty good. I have come here twice and not only was a generous proportion of food given to us the quality was also high. Both times we've received free dessert. The crowd is multicltural and the ambiance is clean and cultural. Definalety the best indian food in the Brooklyn area. Pros: Good food/prices, Friendly service, good ambience more

Best Indian Food in New York 7/25/2003

This place has the best Indian food in New York, hands down. The waiters are very friendly and helpful and if you frequent they will remember you. The food is also outstanding and is served quite quickly. My husband and I have been there at least 6 times and we've always been given the highest service and often free desserts. If you're looking to taste some great Indian food and want good service, definitely visit Curry Leaf. Pros: Best Food, Great Service, Everything Cons: Nothing more
