Dubious Indian Food 7/26/2010

I ordered takeout from this place. Firstly let me say that the delivery was on time, the food was packed well, and the delivery person was wonderful and professional. I just didn't like the food. I ordered the Chicken Coconut Curry Thali, Sag Paneer, Raita, Rice and Naan. The Chicken Coconut Curry was chicken mired in a thick gelatinous brown gravy- not really what I was expecting. The Sag Paneer was palatable, but only just barely. The Raita was heavily spiced with whole mustard seeds. Food is always a matter of taste, and I really wanted to like this place- and I wouldn't not recommend them- I thought their service was wonderful. But I would add the caveat that some like the food, and some don't. Pros: Great Service Cons: Didn't like the food more

Great Indian food at a great price 1/17/2009

Flavorful samosa and naan, they make their own cheese and declicious raita, and while I am not vegetarian, I almost always choose veggie dishes cause they are so good. To my taste, this is very traditional Indian fare, and very soul satisfying. I have never actually eaten in; I have always done delivery, which is prompt and very courteous. more

I've eaten a lot of Indian food from many restaurants, and I'd say Crown was quite good, though not great. I'd give it a 4 of 5 stars. The food came nice and hot. The papadum was hot, not overly crispy and a bit oily (just the way I like it). The naan was very good, and was served piping hot. A competent but average Raita. A good (but not great) Bhuna chicken. Good spinach/ saag. Good chickpeas/ chole puree, though a little bland. Very good chai. The waiter was a very pleasant man who tried hard to understand us, given his limited English skills. The place didn't look like much from the outside, but was nice inside-- then again, I go for the food, not the appearance. Pros: papadum, naan more

Really Good Indian Food 6/3/2008

My friend introduced me to this place for lunch. I'm hooked. They're chicken curry and saag aloo are fantastic! I recommend this place to anyone looking for some good Inidan food in Hollywood. It's in a sketchy area though, and the service can sometimes be a little slow (even if the restaurant isn't crowded), but the staff is nice. I'll continue to go back. Pros: good food Cons: not a great location more

Best Indian Food in Los Angeles 2/16/2008

The crown of india is a gem in los angeles. I've been to a lot of indian restaurants in the LA area and the crown of india definitely sticks out for two reasons. 1. The fine indian dishes make your taste buds dance...it is far better than most indian restaurants I have been to in LA. 2. The price is just right. A dinner for two usually has a tab of $35 bucks and you just can't beat that! I have been here twice so far and have had good experiences both times. You know your at a good indian restaurant when the cook comes out and asks you if you are happy and I was greeted by the chef both times and both times I gave them my thumbs up. The restaurant is small and its in a weird area because theres always shady people walking around outside because of the liquor store right next to the restaurant but who cares...once your inside its not like it matters anyway. If you are a lover of indian food you will certainly find a welcome home here. You will not be disappointed! I know I will be back here many times as long as I am living in los angeles Pros: Great Food. Great Prices Cons: In a shady area more

Yum! 12/28/2007

Very good food, enormous portions, friendly service. Just get past the trannies in the parking lot, BYO (no fee0 and you're all set. Pros: good food, good service, good price Cons: could use some candles to liven up the ambience, trannies in the parking lot more

Great new Indian restaurant, good customer service, fantastic food 11/8/2007

For a long time, I've been dying to have a good Indian place nearby in Hollywood. There's a few nice ones west of La Brea, but come east and it's like a ghost town for Indian food. Well guess what, that's changed with ""Crown of India"". Located in a strip mall near Highland & Santa Monica, this has to be some of the BEST Indian food I've ever had. Maybe my happy experience was affected by the low prices and large portions, but this was some very good food. The staff was also quite friendly, and the interior is nice. I've had takeout from this place many times, you can't beat an $8 lunch special. I love their chicken korma, chicken curry, chana masala, naan, everything! Check them out, you won't regret it! Pros: Friendly service, great food, low prices Cons: Location (but you can always do take-out) more

Excellent Indian food at a great price 10/12/2007

This restaurant opened earlier this year, and I have to say that they are now my favorite Indian restaurant in Los Angeles. The head chef used to work at India's Grill on San Vicente, which is also well known for great food at very reasonable prices. The chicken tikka masala, (free) mango chutney, and curry are all highly recommended! Great service, clean, very friendly, BYOB, and considering how good the food is, I'm surprised they aren't packed every night. Hopefully, soon they will be. Pros: Great food, friendly staff, very affordable more

Worst Indian 8/24/2007
