Best

I've been here for breakfast a few times and it's always awesome. The Dutch Baby "Pancake" with apple is my new favorite thing ever--I'm not a huge normal pancake fan, but this w...

Worst

Ok the only reason it gets 2 stars is because the food was actually pretty good.. If you're willing to put up with the longest wait time ever for it. I got there at 1:00, the pe...

Average 8/8/2007

I was hoping for something spectacular after reading a great newspaper write-up on their gourmet fare. The $8 and $9 sandwiches seemed a little pricey, as did several other items. I went with a sandwich and was a little disappointed that I found a produce sticker on skin on my tomato slice and it made me wonder what else they didn't bother washing. I may go back, just to try something else before making a final judgement but, this wasn't the treasure I was hoping for. more

Over priced 5/27/2006

Crave on Capital Hill tries to be the hip establishment that everyone would want to flock to and in my opinion it is failing miserably. While the food is good and very fresh it is not good enough to support an 18 dollar charge for pork chops. Other dishes on the menu lean towards a combination of home style American and Pacific Northwest food. Supposeably the mac and cheese here is very good but no one at my table tried it. Brunch and breakfast is also available. Service here was good and I did enjoy watching the kitchen at work from my perch in the extremely small dining area. OveralI though I, and my dining partners expected more from Crave. more

Brunch and Dinner rocked my face! 1/23/2006

The food at Crave is definitely delicious. and they also have distinctive drinks for the non-alcoholically inclined. Although the space is a bit tiny, their servers are extremely adept and somehow manage to maneuver around the tables. They're very talented ladies! I've never had anything bad there. I've tried pastas, meats, eggs, french toast, you name it. This place is great, and the prices are very reasonable too. more

not too frou frou 12/29/2005

I prefer a greasy spoon for my breakfasts, but when I want something different I go to Crave. Somehow they have fused diner food with classy elegance. more

interesting menu, great food 9/29/2005

I really like this place. It's got a nice atmosphere with an open kitchen so you can glance over and see your food being made. Considering the care taken with the menu and ingredients, it's reasonably priced. The portions are just the right size - not so big that you get totally stuffed but big enough that you're not thinking "where's the food." Good service. A nice place for a date or dinner with friends. I've heard the breakfast/brunch is great but I haven't tried it myself. I can't wait to go back to Crave. more

Excellent Organic Nosh 9/9/2005

I have never been here for lunch/dinner, but I am a big fan of weekend brunch. You get more or less gourmet-quality food for reasonable prices (under $10). My favorites include the Biscuits & Gravy (the flkiest biscuits you've ever had with Itaian chicken sausage gravy) and the Madame Crave: brioche topped with a friend egg, prosciutto, hot mustard and cheese. You will never be disappointed with the food here--the service, on the other hand, is generally deplorable. more

Organically grown and tasty! 9/7/2004

Ate at Crave a few weeks back with some friends and found a delightful selection of grass fed beef, organically grown veggies all in gourmet entrees at about $16 a pop. Good stuff- in particular the steak with mushrooms and the corn soup (may have been a special that night). I've heard that brunch is awesome- though popular! more

Editorial
  • The Scene
Thank to two walls of windows overlooking a busy street and theater entrance, people watching is an endless spectacle, and plenty of light brightens up the slightly cramped space. The crowd is a classic Capitol Hill mix of ages, genders and fashions; families are as common as couples. The servers offer knowledgeable advice even when struggling to keep pace with the constant influx of customers.

    The Food
Top quality ingredients are combined in original ways; the addition of shitake mushrooms to the mac-n-cheese is sheer brilliance. Excellent white beans, pasta and greens come together in the pasta fazool so every bite shines with a mix of textures and herbal flavor. Substantial grilled chops are blanced with seasonal vegetables and Breakfasts are at least as popular as dinner; choose from Dutch babies, blintzes or a rich French toast that blends sweet orange with tangy blue cheese.
