turtles 1/1/2016

I have been a customer since 1991. Back then, the quality was superb. Milk chocolate turtles were always a favorite of mine. Pecans, caramel and milk chocolate....Yum. Now they use lousy peanuts with little caramel. The chocolate remains good. What a disappointment at $25.00 a pound. more

Avoid!! 11/4/2013

The owner is one of the worst people I have ever dealt with in my life. He was extremely rude and refused to answer any of my questions. The chocolate is nothing special. You might as well buy a Hershey's bar. Save yourself the trouble and avoid this place at all cost. more

The most delicious Chocolates around 2/22/2012

If you find yourself visiting the Hudson Valley area, Commodore Chocolatier is a spot you should definitely put on your list to visit. This store has been around for many years. I believe since the 50's if not a little before then but every time you walk in its like your all of a sudden a kid again begging your parents to buy you a little bit of everything. Wonderful service and their homemade chocolates are the best I've ever had. more

Wonderful chococlate 8/10/2009

Not only is the chocolate wonderful but the owners are real people, caring and generous. This is family owned concern and it shows! The caramels and nougets are my favorites an now that I have moved away from the area, I sometimes call them and have the shipped - they are THAT good! more

Don't go to this shop! 5/28/2009

Good: The gentleman (owner) and his son were so nice and helpful.. Bad: The wife! She is a first class bitch. She didn't even acknowledge my husband and me when we came in and sat on her fat ass. She asked us to write down on a piece of paper what we would like to purchase. The embarrassed husband came and served us.. Improvements: Get rid of the wife!. Other: STAY AWAY from this place if the wife is there!. more

A Valentine's Day Tradition 4/11/2006

I grew up going to Commodore, but their chocolate covered strawberries have become a new tradition for me. My fiance first bought them on our first Valentine's Day together and they have become an annual tradition ever since. WHen you pass the store, it doesn't always look open, but give it a try. Their truffles are delicious and they have quite the variety. Around the holidays, you can (for free!) come in and see them making candy canes. This is a generations old family business in Newburgh that deserves kudos. more

Commodore Chocolates 3/6/2006

This nondescript little shop on busy Broadway in Newburgh is a former luncheonette--the booths, counter and stools are still in place. However, they sell chocolate now and we are SO lucky. This is the real stuff...dark, light and everything in between. The chocolates are made by a chocolate master named John. HE KNOWS CHOCOLATE! You can select from a delicious array of chocolates from a large display case up front. Nuts, fruits, sweets of every variety enrobed in chocolate. Even sugar free delights. I'm not a fan of dark chocolate but I do enjoy Commodore's. Chocolates are boxed and ready to buy or you can hand pick an assortment. The chcolae covered strawberries are a big seller during spring--you can order ahead and pick them up. During the weeks before Christmas, John runs classes on candy canes- how to make them from scratch right in the candy factory located next door. An experience worth doing, especially with children. Commodore ships anywhere you choose--just give them a call. more
