Fun! 7/27/2007

Ok, so like this is the first time I have ever actually rated something, but this was so fun I just had to tell you about it! I was worried that the ""clean"" comedy wouldn't be funny - but I was pleasantly suprised! I wasn't sure what to expect, but then the referee came out and explained how it worked, and as the show progressed, I found myself wanting to get up on stage and be a part of the show!\r \r The people on stage looked like they were having such a great time. I liked that it was competitive, and the audience gets to vote on the games to see which team gets the points. One of the women in the audience had a birthday and they did a special song for her. \r \r I actually liked the fact I could bring in my own wine. \r \r There was a small church group there who had reserved seats (I found out later if you call ahead of time you can do that) and they were talking about having the show at their church so more members could see it. \r \r Clean comedy is smart comedy. Some of the suggestions you really have to think about, but these guys (and gals) think pretty fast! It's better than a lot of Saturday Night Live shows I've seen lately. You should try it sometime! Pros: Clean, fast paced, BYOB Cons: Bring quarters for parking, or park in garage about a block away more

ComedySportz puts the FUN in FUNny!! 5/22/2007

What a great evening! My girlfriend and I are always looking for fun things to do on the weekends (that's not too expensive) and we had heard about comedysportz, so we thought we would give it a try. Man, are we glad we did! What a great time! It's improv comedy, but with teams competing for our laughs. We really had the control of who won the games (which was cool). The cost was very reasonable too, so if you're on a budget, this is a great way to have a date night. They don't serve adult beverages, but we just brought our own, which cut down on allot of the cost of going out for us. It's very fast paced, so there's something new happening all the time. We were cheering for the BLUE TEAM and they won, so we very excited about that. I got big points for thinking up this date; so guys if you're looking for a date night, give this place a try. You can thank me later!!! Pros: Inexpensive, Interactive, Intimate, BYOB Cons: No food (except snacks) so eat before (or after) more

ComedySportz: We're now Loyal Fans! 5/17/2007

We were looking for something to do for our sons 14th birthday and came across ComedySportz. We made a reservation over the phone with one of the most pleasant people I have ever spoken with. We found their ""Arena"" downtown in the West End and proceeded to have a great time. My son and his friends as well as the adults all had a great time. This isn't a kiddie show by any means. It reminds me of that Drew Carey show with Ryan Stiles where they do the improv games. My kids love that show! They talked about each show being different because of audience suggestions, I can see that! They played this game called Five Things where a guesser left the room and we (audience) gave the referee active activities and then made it sill by replaceing the normal item with something that woulod never be used. Lets say the activity was Football. The ball itself could be an octopus. Then the guesser came back in the room and his/her teammates had to get them to say the activity and a couple things about it that have been changed, all my using mime and giberish. All in all, I heartily recommend ComedySportz for people of all ages. Like the ref called us at the beginning, Loyal Fans, we have been back twice in the last 3 months and I am talking to my HR dept at work about having ComedySportz entertain at our next Christmas party. Pros: Fast Paced! Different each time you see it! Great for all ages! Cheap snacks! Cons: No liquor served, but you can BYOB. more

A fun time for all Fri's n Sat's 5/16/2007

After a horrible week at work I was reluctant to go out but my wife and friends dragged me out to something called Comedysportz. I was so glad I went!! They do improv comedy as if it were a sport and they interact with the audience all through the night. Don't be scared though they don't pick on you; they ask you for suggestions and work them into their performances. Some people were even lucky enough to volunteer and go up on the stage as well. It was a show that I could have brought anyone to and not been worried about what kind of language or crassness would have come up because their always do a show approriate for all audiences. I would defenitely recommend my friends make anight of Comedy Sportz some weekend. Being downtoen there's plenty of restaurants to hang out at before or after the show as well. Everyone at Comedysportz was nice and friendly, just know they don't have a kitchen but do have a small concession stand. Comedy Sportz was exactly what I needed to laugh away a stressful work week. I'm defenitely going to go again and I've already talked to my boss about maybe getting them for a meeting or company party. If your in Dallas and need a laugh go to Comedysportz, oh and they don't break our wallet with 2 drink minimums either. Pros: No drink minimum, safe content for a family, energetic and lively, good service, near many restaurants Cons: no direct parking, more

If you love Whose Line Is It Anyway, You'll Love ComedySportz 5/16/2007

I have seen several ComedySportz performances around the US and even the one in England. No two shows are alike - different players, different games - always very funny. And the best part, I think, is that the one in Dallas is 100% NON-SMOKING!!! I hate smelling like a dirty ashtray after a comedy show (I'm looking at YOU, Addison Improv!) \r Also? NO DRINK MINIMUM!!! Parking isn't free, but what do you expect? It's downtown. Pros: NON SMOKING!!, NO drink minimum, all ages welcome Cons: sometimes the audience suggestions are stupid more

Comedy Sportz: Laughter Keeps the West End Lively. 5/16/2007

While much of Dallas's West End feels like a ghost town these days, lined with empty husks of buildings, and restaurants that close ridiculously early on weekends, the laughter ringing out from the folks at ComedySportz does much to breathe life into the historic neighborhood.\r \r Unlike many improv troupes, ComedySportz is smoke-free and family friendly, though it's important to note that it is in no way childish. The men and women of this group often ride the very edge of what is acceptable in a kid-friendly environment, and on the rare occasion that the line is overstepped, players - or audience members - who offend are shrouded in a brown bag as punishment, which only serves to make it all seem funnier. \r \r Featuring a rotating cast of six to nine performers, ComedySportz offers an evening of laughter and frivolity equally suitable for your boyfriend or your grandmother. Like the popular TV series ""Whose Line is it Anyway?"" they specialize in short-form improv - the average sketch is roughly three minutes long - with an accent on entertainment and audience participation. Oh, yes, participation is key - when you attend a ComedySportz show, you should expect to play with the cast - either by making suggestions or, in some cases, actually venturing up on stage. \r \r This interaction is one of the many charms of ComedySportz. Another is that its cast includes enough women that there is never the sense that any one is a ""token"" female, and if you look around at other troupes either locally or around the country, you'll find that the inclusion of women in the case is a rare thing.\r \r While the rotating cast means that returning customers may not be able to see their favorite performers every time, it also helps ensure that no two shows are remotely alike. \r \r Follow the laughter to the West End and check out ComedySportz - but remember: It's BYOB Pros: Smoke-free, $5 Parking, Family-friendly Cons: No Alcohol Served on Premesis (BYOB), Restrooms not handicap accessable more

Funniest Place in Dallas!! 5/16/2007

This is my 1st reveiw post and I wanted to be about a place that is noteworthy and Comedy Sportz is it.!!! \r I went with my husband and we both had the best time.Service:\r When we 1st walked in the door I could tell that cashier and the users were happy to see us there and they wanted us to have a good time. Everyone is polite and well mannered. We didn't RSVP our seating which wasn't a problem and we got a great seat. Not like there are any bad seats in the area. They have a snack bar and is actually is a snack bar. They have all types of soda and candy, and the best part about it that everything is Dollar!! I mean yeah, you can get catvies cheaper then a gallon of gas these days. \r I also like that they are family friendly and its true!! I have 3 kids and I will go back with my oldest cause my two other kids are too little!! \r \r The Show:\r If you have seen ""Who's Line is it anyway?"" this is what they do, but a little differently. There are two teams a Red and Blue and they try to win over the audience. Which is a great idea, they have a sound person and Ref that makes sure that they don't foul, like a football game. When we were there the two teams were made of all men and one women which is odd but it worked. They played crazy games with lines from moives and asking people to come up on the stage and play too. The show was too good to say I had a favortie player cause they all were equally talented. It was AMAZING to see them guess and be right and make every crazy thing/line work. Then at the end of the show they play a pun game and then we saw who won. Once again it was the best time I had in a really long time. Pros: Great people on stage, Great people at the door, Great people everywhere. Cons: No Sunday shows! more

Hilarious! 5/16/2007

Comedy Sportz was great! I was laughing SO hard I had cotton mouth and I feel like I just did 50 sit ups. I wasn't sure what to expect, there wasn't a huge crowd of people, but they made up for it big time. I brought my wife, and two daughters 12 and 19 and they loved it too. They did a great job, I can't believe I'd never heard of these guys, but my company had done an event and invited them and they were hilarious. An absolute riot! Not much left in the west end now, but this is a great way to spend a friday or saturday night. Parking isn't bad, and it's relatively cheap ($5 in the parking garage, and $3 for a meter).\r \r TAKE ME OUT TO SEE IMPROV! COMEDY SPORTZ ROCKS! more

Best Comedy for Everyone! 5/16/2007

While most of the entertainment has left the West End, ComedySportz has survived and is better than ever. They've updated the club and their comedy is better than ever! And the best thing is they are non-smoking AND BYOB. No more drink minimums. Their humor is still great for anyone. I took my Mom and some neighbors last week and we all had a blast! Pros: Very funny and great for everyone Cons: Their restrooms were downstairs more
