I cannot believe that some of these reviews are favorable. People, don't waste your money on this place. Food came late, was not good,. Salad did not appear fresh. Many items overpriced. Me and my friends went there one night not knowing what to expect. What we got was great food, a competent and personable server and an owner who took the time to come and talk to us. These people are not corporate, just folks like us who are trying very hard to become established in our community and I for one will support them by coming back again and again. It is nice knowing my money is staying here in our town and that these folks are good people. If you are looking for cookie cutter food and corporate mentality then it is not the place for you. i like knowing who I buy from and the fact that this owner takes the time to come and sit with us meant a lot. The food is great at a good price and it is mere blocks from my home. I welcome Colonnas and hope they are here to stay. Pros: Best pizza in town and best value in steaks more

I'm not exactly sure what the nay-sayers are talking about. This place is great! My husband and I have eaten there several times, and the food has been consistently good every time. The wait staff all seem competent and are outgoing and want to please you. I want this restaurant to make it because you can tell they're hard working folks. I say give them a chance. I will not go back to this restaurant nor will my friends. I wanted a salad and they actually were out of lettuce (and this was on a Thursday). Me and my husband went in the other night and thought the food was so amazing. we had the shrimp brochette with the green beans and corn,and my husband had the Chicken fried ribeye. It was one of the best meals we/ve eatin since i've been in San Antonio. The service was great too and we will definately be coming back once a week. Pros: everything Cons: nothing more

I ate at Colonnas the other day and had the best experience. The service was awesome, the food was delicious, the prices were VERY reasonable. I live in Helotes and try to frequent local businesses. I really wanted this restaurant to succeed. I was willing to give this place a 4th try but will never return. We ordered a bottle of merlot on a Thrusday evening at 8:00pm. We were told they were out of bottles of merlot, cabernet, AND ciantti. They could give us miscellaneous glasses of some from open bottles. We asked the manager, Brittany, if she would discount the price on the glasses since it is more expensive to order by the glass than by the bottle. She spoke in a very loud voice, said absolutely not, no discounts, etc. When she left our table the people behind us asked if we were ever coming back to this place because they were not coming back. We discussed our dissatisfaction. We decided to leave without ordering anything. My neighbors were seated at the next table and asked me what had happened. I was telling them when Stephen Colonna came out of the kitchen and told me he did not appreciate me going from table to table talking to people. I explained to him why I was talking to these people. I told him his manager was extremely loud and he said she is loud because ""she is from Georgia ! "" He called me ""Sweetie"" and said I didn't know about ordering bottles of wine vs glasses of wine. As you can imagine a very unpleasant exchange ensued. A woman in my party emailed Stephen a couple of days later to explain our side and he emailed back saying he wasn't backing down. He said we were wrong and he had seen all the tricks in the book by people wanting something for nothing. Four of the five of us in the party are over 60, retired, and go out to eat a lot. We can afford our food and drink. I found out later from my next door neighbors that when we left the restaurant Stephen apologized to them and offered them FREE WINE. They declined and told him we were indeed neighbors and that they had approached me.. I never want to see a business fail, especially in a small town. But the word is spreading about this place. I will not be surprised if Colonna's goes out of business. Stephen Colonna is one of three co-owners of this grill. We are so happy to get a restaurant of this caliber in Helotes. its now called Colonnas Grill, but I think its the same one. great atmosphere, food is very good, no enough tables though for weekend crowds but during the week no problems. dinner takes time but its worth it. lunch is faster. Large variety on menu! They make it as you order no premade like most. so it takes longer but we go there to take our time and enjoy. they also have a bar, and good Maragaritas. I read the reviews after eating at Colonnas Grill and couldn't believe what I read. I have no explanation for their reviews. My family and I have eaten there several times and it has been fantastic. The food was excellent, a large variety on their menu. If you have to wait at the door that is usually a good sign not an inconvienence. The buzz had been that this was an upscale restaurant. Not True. We arrived Friday night to a crowded entry way. There was no hostess, or employee for that matter to greet us and organize the waiting customers (when tables were available wait staff/bus boy would ask who was next). We were seated by an already apologetic waitress (who already looked stressed out) who took our drink/appetizer order. No wine or dessert menu? The food was below expected (steak extremely dry and way over cooked), our appetizer plates were dirty (cheese and finger prints from previous use - this happened twice), our 2 plates came out at different times, and we were not impressed. I guess the most glaring fault of this restaurant is the lack of management. The waitstaff was running around ragged and cooks in the kitchen seemed lost (looking around and smelling sauces?). At one point there was a chef seating customers and loudly interacted with a customer at the bar when the customer asked about the wait time for service (chef said,""im seating customers and cooking food, it doesnt get any faster than that""). There was a lack of organization at the front, and noone expediting the food ready to serve. My family and I were completely disgusted by this restaurant. The first thing we noticed upon entering was a tackily dressed waitress who completely ignored us for the 1st 10 minutes - and the place was almost empty. The silverware was badly/barely washed - we had to ask for new silverware. The waitress was too busy flirty with a male customer to promptly wait on us. The food was HORRIBLE. One dish we ordered came with mushrooms, and the cook piled the mushrooms on - it took a lot of digging to get past the mushrooms to the rest of the food. Obviously, the cook was attempting to compensate for a badly cooked meal. Everything we ordered was over-spiced and not well-put together. I would not recommend this restaurant to ANYone - it is a complete waste of time. more
