Colonial handled my move professionally and courteously. They were on time in WA to pick up my belongings and delivered them in excellent condition. Everything broken down was put back together again. I was consulted all during the loading. Definitely will use them again more

Disaster in Moving 9/2/2020

STOP STOP STOP Don't think about Colonial Van Lines. They have a hard time telling you the truth. They are a Broker moving company. TheY hire trucks all over Country, they don't own 200 of them, they sign agreements with other movers. My pick up was 4 days late, My delivery was 28 days later. It was supposed to arrive in 5 days. I had to contact the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier Administration to get my goods. The boxes were broken and crushed. I'm still waiting for missing items 3 weeks later. Each time you call you speak to someone else in Customer service. My account representative responded to me when I asked who was the vice president of Colonial Van Lines, I don't work exactly for ColonialVanlines. They were smart not having her as an employee. I knew more about my move before she did.I couldn't get reimbursed by insurance since I signed the papers saying PBO next to items. (Packed by owner) When I paid specifically for them to pack items as I paid for third party insurance, which became voided and they wouldn't pay since it stated packed by the owner. They packed the items, they lost the items but I got screwed by them.I had to live for 4 weeks with no clothes, bed or dinnerware. They said it would be delivered in 5 days--so we had clothes for 5 days, not 4 weeks. They were good about it they gave us $40 a day after 15 days. I didn't go very far. I'm warning you - Do Not trust these people. I can give you a dozen different people I spoke to they all gave me different stories. I'm warning you!!!!!! heads up more

the WORST moving company ever 8/7/2020

This is the WORST moving company of all time. I wish I could give ZERO STARS. They are so nice upfront to try to get you to sign with them and then horrible service. They picked up our things without a problem in NJ on 7/1/20, and said it would arrive in AZ anywhere from 7/6-7/22. It is now 8/7 and we STILL don't have any of our belongings and no delivery date in sight. The first driver they subcontracted with a 3rd party and didn't tell us--we didn't sign a contract with this 3rd party who had horrible reviews. Then they didn't tell us that the day after this company picked up all our things they decided to just not make the drive and not honor their end of the contract. Colonial didn't even try to find another driver until after our delivery window had passed. They keep saying they have "no information for us" and they're "working on it" and still they haven't hired another driver to come to AZ. You're a moving company!! Hire someone else! People move all the time!! We had a contract. They're also trying to cheat us out of the already ridiculously low compensation of "$40 per day after delivery window". They ignore emails, phone calls, and just keep saying "were working on it". Honestly if I could figure out how to get into the truck to get my things out myself and drive it myself I would do it so I could stop dealing with this completely incapable company. more

Worst Experience - Liars & Thieves 7/10/2020

They seemed organized and official in the planning, but they contract their services out to local companies who don’t know or care about any contracts or promises Colonial made. I had terrible damage done to my building in pick up and has charged to review. Despite the claim made and picture documentation- no responsibility from Colonial. The drop off had a 10 day window and I was supposed to receive 24h notice. I got a call that the mover was outside. And 1 guy, no team, it was like amateur hour, not a professional moving company. It took hours for the man to unload himself. And I learned by bed was dismantled and parts lost- unable to be put together. The mattress was folded and broken. No responsibility from Colonial. They offered a laughable amount for the damage to the mattress based on weight and ignored the lost item or their duty in it. Then, the deliverer tried the long haul Tactic, and said I owed him cash for it. Unable to pay on the card for the move, he would not document it. When I tried to call the company to check, he grabbed my phone and hung it up. He then refused to leave without another 250 in cash. As a woman alone, I was afraid and paid. Colonial didn’t care or take responsibility. The damage and lost items cost more to replace than the move, and I’ve involved the BBB and authorities for the extortion and threat. Moving Nightmare! 9/10/2019

I had the moving Nightmare of my life with this Company. They under quoted the job. The company they subcontracted out to out right stole my money! When I was told it was going to Cost over twice as much as the Original quote I was assured they would check the weight before my items arrived. That didn't happen. The Subcontracted Co Demanded that I give them over!10,000 dollars before they would remove my items from the truck. When I persisted with the checking of the weight they would only do it after I paid up front and unloaded my stuff. Well I was correct the Company was trying to steal from me. They succeeded because as soon as the Driver found out. He immediately drove off with my cash! They broke,smashed and destroyed several of my things. These are only the items I can see. I haven't even begun to unpack. But some if the boxes were so smashed they had to saran wrap them to keep them together. This is not how my stuff left my house. They were 11 days late. I could go on and on. This Is The Worst Moving Company Ever!They had a Company move my stuff. Apparently they are just Brokers. The Company out of Los Angeles Ca. Who works for Colonial Van lines as well as Atlas van lines. Out right Stole from me They doubled the cost tried to tell me J had more stuff than I did. My moving customer service agent did nothing to stop them or help me. Apparently they know what is going on. This Company doubles the cost, breaks and destroys my things, holds my stuff Hostage unless I pay them $10,000.00 Cash. I spoke with Carol more than once she assured me that they would reweigh my stuff. As I could tell R & R movers in Hollywood Ca was trying to RIP me off. They will not check the weight until after I pay of course I am right. Driver Kevin of R&R steals my Cash and leaves as quickly as possible. They broke,smashed and destroyed several of my things and all the boxes look like someone played baseball with them. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY THEY SUPPORT THIEVES AND BAD SERVICE! THEY UNDER QUOTE TO GET YOU. more

Missing/damaged items 9/10/2019

We have still not received ANY of our lost goods - including a large Sony flat screen TV, espresso maker, boxes of clothes, etc. Nor have we received any satisfaction from Colonial Van Lines representatives. They simply keep telling us, 'we're working on it', or 'we're on your side'... we've been hearing those same lines for going on 2 MONTHS NOW. To sum up, in three months / ZERO items found, no description of what they've done to locate our items, and NO SATISFACTORY RESOLUTION. more

horrible experience 7/25/2019

Horrific experience and still not resolved. My household has not been moved even though my moving dates in my contract with Colonial Van Lines were June 24, 25 or 26th. Only by chance did I find out there was no truck or driver for my move, from CT to CA - no one contacted me and if I hadn't called, I would not have known. My original account manager was very rude and uncaring and did not offer any help or any date for the move - she suggested I "look into" another carrier! After speaking to another account manager and a dispatch supervisor, (both courteous), I was told there was no set date. In the meantime, I had to move because my lease had ended, and I had a flight to California where I was relocating. Fortunately, a local company, was able to move my household at the last minute and put everything into storage. I had to pay additional money for the extra move, and I am incurring daily storage charges. I want everything in writing and an updated contract. Have spoken with a person in the resolution department regarding the reimbursement and compensation, daily calls but no resolution as of today. I feel it is very reasonable for me to expect a new contract with recalculations in writing prior to my authorization for the move. Yesterday received a message from a supervisor who was trying to bully me into accepting a pickup date prior to a resolution. During this fiasco I left several voice messages and emails for my broker/agent at Colonial Van Lines and not once has he contacted me since contract signed . But he was nonstop calling and emailing when he wanted the contract signed and deposit made. He was not truthful and misled me when he told me Colonial owned the trucks and the drivers were employees - they hire third parties and hope for the best. Four weeks later, I'm in CA with nothing. My car was shipped, same broker/agent and when I got into my car it stunk of cigarettes. I do not smoke. Colonial doesn't give a damn about their customers, total disregard for me who has put her trust in the company. more

Rude, angry, yelling, lying 7/5/2019

I was very wrong to get as upset as I did. I guess to explain, I was upset for my neighbors, I had no sleep last night due to the excitement of the pending move, I hated being the cause of the fire department and police being here, the road being shut down, and my neighbors losing power on a very hot day because of me. I know I told Jessica that I had low hanging wires and how to get to my house to avoid that problem. The driver, who was very nice and remorseful is not to blame. There are tree limbs blocking his view of the wires. So I guess I'm still a little upset. Your guys did a great job. I made an effort to make it as easy as it was possible which means I had been working very hard. It began to elevate due to my frustration of having to repeatedly tell you the same thing over and over again, such as the location of the Storage unit and the frustrating phone system and your people refusing to allow me to speak to a supervisor or even tell me the name of any supervisor and finally having to tell the same story several times to a person that had no control, genuine concern, and being repeatedly transferred to a phone that no one was answering. The most aggravating thing was when Jessica told me she did not ask about the wires and that I did not explain the road the driver should take to avoid those wires which I did, she was lying. Originally it sounded like a standard question. Today she could only repeat the question several times "Did I receive a call from the driver 30 minutes to 1 hour prior to arrival". I wonder if she had just apologized instead of lying if it would have de-escalated the situation right there. However there is no reason that someone should act the way I did. This is the second time i have used them, this is the worst moving company I have ever worked with! DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY WITH THEM! I was told my stuff would get picked up, they couldn't wait for a COI from my building and tried to cancel my order 2 days before pick up! Now they cant find a truck to actually move my stuff after i have paid them! The support is useless. Do yourself a favor and find a different company. These guys are NOT reliable and their support is terrible! more

Don't Use This Company 2/5/2019

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY... ESPECIALLY FOR SENIOR CITIZENS. We tried to use them to move my mother from Florida to Pennsylvania. They gave her an estimate that we thought was reasonable. However, they kept changing the day and time that they were going to pack her apartment. On the day of packing, they showed up around lunch time. The packers did not seem to work for the moving company. They immediately said my mother had "extra" stuff and that the move was going to cost around $8000.00 more! We tried to figure out what was going on, but it was all so sketchy. We told my mom to tell the packers to leave, that we could not trust that they would complete the job and deliver her belongings for the price originally quoted. This company is not a reputable company. OH, and they will not, in good faith since they did not complete the move, return my mom's deposit. more

Find ANY other mover if you can... * We were misled by several members of the support team regarding their policies * I could not get any sort of guarantee on the pricing until AFTER the move was complete * Our main point of contact couldn't guarantee a pickup date even 48 hours from the move "window" * Most emails went responded to for several days if they were answered at all * When I tried to cancel our move, I was met with unprofessional hostility and had to remind the associate several times that I was calling to cancel * It took 4 days to cancel our move after various phone calls and emails more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! 10/9/2018

This is a horrible company. They made such amazing promises to us and broke almost every single one of them. Firstly they lied when they CONFIRMED when the movers would come which threw off our entire schedule forcing us to get a hotel with a newborn and two cats. The movers themselves, outsourced which we were told wouldn't be a thing, were soooooooooo unprofessional. They complained about packing things we had specified, complained how heavy our mattress was, and overall were aggressive. They also smoked in the bed of the truck amongst all my furniture, and caused numerous other damages with their mishandling of our items. I've never had a more stressful move. This company is also refusing to give us the compensation we are asking for. If you don't prefer stress and like your things do not use this company. more

Best Move 2/2/2018

With more than 20 moves under my belt, I consider myself an expert on every type of move, and CVL is the best company I’ve worked with. My daughter and her family found out on 12/22 that they had 10!days to make an interstate move in order to start a new job. I spoke with David at 3 pm on Friday afternoon before Christmas and had the move scheduled and contract signed by 5. The customer service and quality management folks stayed in close touch with me (paying for the move) and my daughter. The moving crew was great—careful, fast and really pleasant, even unloading in bitter cold on New Years Eve. I would like to think my moving days are done, but I would not hesitate to use CVL or recommend them to anyone, more

Worst company in the world! Do not use if your life depended on them! They took my deposit and never showed up for the move. They have changed to move date on me four times and never called to cancel or anything. They keep giving me the run around and transferring me to other people in the company or just hanging up on me. They are less than happy to refund any of my original deposit. I now have to get my lawyer involved because this company is so incompetent. more
