My daughter is attending the COE Preschool for the 2nd year, and I highly recommend it, especially for it’s Bilingual program. On Monday, Wednesday and Friday, from 1:00 to 3:40 they offer what’s called the TWIST Program (Two-Way Immersion Spanish Time). “The goals of the program are to integrate Spanish-speaking children from Head Start and English-speaking children from the COE Preschool for instruction/play facilitated in Spanish as a way of developing Spanish skills in both groups of children while encouraging social interaction and concepts of social justice.” (I quote this from the handbook). The teachers are great, very knowledgeable and experienced, and I love how they are always involving me in what my daughter is learning. Most of the other staff are ASU students, which unfortunately causes a lot of turnover, but they are all very talented and very good instructors. My daughter gets one hour of teaching and instruction in Spanish, and after the first hour she gets to choose what activity she would like, and which language she would use. Although she always chooses her native language (English), I speak Spanish with her at home, and she understands almost everything. My only complaint about this school is the parking; there are days when it is impossible to find parking, and I have to call the office and have one of the staff come out and pick up my daughter. But besides that, a great preschool!
