I had just got out... from doing 7 long hard years, my partner and I were heading south on I-85 we saw this huge billboard with a brother on it (Collar Green Cafe'). We stopped to check it out! First of all the brother working in the kitchen looked like Pun-Jam (a old inmate trustee) whom worked in the kitchen back at the big house, so I became a little skeptical of whom was running this joint. But what the heck, I was extremely hungry and wanted some serious down to earth soul food. I ordered the smoothered porkchop, some collars, mac & cheese and corn bread...Let me tell you! It was tasteless to say the least. Put it this way...The owner should be doing some hard time himself for serving that garbage! Maybe he'd learn a thing or two. It's a dammm shame that absolutely zero TLC is put into soul food these days. The owner might better serve his business by renaming this joint The Fear Factor. My partner paid for the meals, so no big thing. But if it was up to me...I'd got myself into trouble again and end up back in the big house...At least the slop they serve you there held you over rather than bented you over. Pros: Good location Cons: The owner needs to rename place The Fear Factor or reestablish himself...maybe simply stick to burgers more

I'm a down south home grown peach, i went to CGC to grab a bite to eat because i was craving some of that home cooked food... I was horrified when i tasted the mac and cheese, the food is not good, they should do away the owner and be done with the cook... Pros: Nice sign Cons: everything more

Worst Food I've ever eaten 7/15/2007

I had the taste for soul food for 4 days so finally I get to the CGC rushed to get home and then I bite into the field peas which had a large crunch. No taste but very crunchy, the cabbage was over cooked with no flavor, the fried chicken had no taste and don't even talk about the mac n cheese I have never tasted anything so disgusting it was like it had cheese coloring with no cheese. It was like a science project gone bad. Trust me when I say keep driving. Pros: The nice big sign Cons: Nasty Food more

Value lunch 7/9/2007

If you're looking for a value of healthy portions with average taste at a great price, this is the place. The place is obviously better suited for takeouts than dine in. It's not the place for a business lunch as it's very small, with only a handful of cramped tables in a small corner locale. The food is tasty enough to drop in occassionally for a quick take out plate lunch. If you happen to be in the mood for the day's special, you'll get decent serving of an entree with two vegetables, a drink and a sliver of cake. Ask for the peach cobbler for a better serving of desert, but be sure it was made within the last couple of hours This is also one of the few places in town that you can get southern vegetables not made with pork/ham hock and also not full of grease. You get what you pay for... value rarely equals fine dining. Pros: value, variety Cons: atmosphere is non existence more

Worst food I've ever had that I had to pay for 7/5/2007

This is definitely not the spot for soul food or any kind of food for that matter. Despite the inviting billboard on I-85, the restaurant was lackluster, not the cleanest, and the service was also lacking. The food was even worse, with "right out of the box" wanna be Kraft macaroni and cheese with no taste. The rest of the vegetables lacked flavor as well. You can get a better meal at Piccadilly. Don't waste your time and money! Pros: None Cons: The food! more

Soul-less Food! 6/24/2007

If you are looking for authentic, flavorful soul food--KEEP IT MOVING. The best thing about the Collard Green Cafe is the sign that sits on I-85! I like to support minority-owned businesses, but owners must put out a quality product. From the BROWN BROTHA crawling on my feet, to lack of basic necessities---like air conditioning and a public restroom, the Cafe has some things to work on. Now--the food . . . obviously, the cooks did not taste their food, as there was no seasoning anywhere in sight! The sugary collard greens and dry pinto beans needed a few more hours of cooking and a few more pieces of ham hocks or smoked turkey! The salisbury steak bricks needed some gravy and some more tender meat. Ok---I'll stop here, although I could continue with the macaroni and powder cheese. Ok, positives---THE CONE BREAD was delicious!! more
