no allergic reaction 5/20/2006

Pad Thai is pretty good- but if you've ever been to an awesome thai restaurant like- Thai Taste in Charlotte- this does not compare at all! thai rolls are gross and the peanut sauces are off. we also got salads-- i didn't know you could mess up ginger dressing-- overall- it's decent, but i'm sure they may have better things on their menu than we happened to order. i will say i'm really picky about asian food-- b/c i'm allergic to MSG's-- and had no allergic reactions with anything I ate-- i may go again-- but will try something different. more

my wife and i arrived for basketball and food.we couldn't sit at the bar because it was packed with employees who would not move.they just sat there, smoked and watched the game. we sat in the empty restaurant.we ordered food and since we couldn't watch basketball we decided on to go food.after a very lengthy wait we were informed we couldnt get late night menu to go..when we told the manager it wasnt on the menu he was a jerk..we paid ($65)and left .got home, ate, and the food was average at best amking the experience complete.COMPLETELY AWFUL! Cons: management, employees, food more

I won't be back 1/26/2006

I've tried this place twice and both times found the food totally lacking. Last time I decided to try a Thai dish and ordered the Pad Thai. First off the dish had no traditional heat. I couldn't pick up a hint of a pepper! Second, the expected peanut sauce had no taste of peanut. Terrible! The first visit I ordered my favorite and usual dish when trying out a Chinese Restaurant...General Tso's chicken. The breading on the chicken was gooey and seemed as though it had been cooked much earlier and left to soften and again the sauce had no heat. more

awesome! 12/28/2005

The food is great! I've eaten a lot of Chinese food in my life, and Cody's is one of the best that I've ever had. There's a variety of different dishes that are both exciting and tastey, especially those from their Thai selection. They also have karaoke! My friends and I have a great time drinking and singing on Saturday nights. Cody's is a fun place with good food; I highly recommend it . Pros: Thai food, karaoke more

Just the Greatest. 8/4/2005

Sure the foods a little expensive, and it can usually use a little more spice, it's still pretty damned good. But it's the atmosphere and friendly staff more than make up for it. These days ""service with a smile"" is so rare that the service at Cody's is more than refreshing-- it's service with a wink and a smile. What more could you ask for? Pros: hot bartender, fun, karaoke Cons: needs more spice, pricey (but good!) more

Good flavor 5/19/2005

Treat yourself to the Ginger Lamb - you won't regret it. Cody's also has some of the best Fried Rice in town (hold the veggies, in my opinion (they add zucchini/chunks are too big)). Great lunch value. more

one of the best restaurants in the downtown area 2/13/2005

Let me begin by saying what a beautiful restaurant Cody's Bistro is. The ambience and atmosphere of Cody's was incredibly romantic. Not only was the restaurant beautiful, but so was the food. The presentation of the food is top notch. The food was great. I loved it at Cody's and will be visiting there again very soon. What a great experience - try the Cody's Beef, Szechuan Fish, Chicken Lettuce Wraps, Chicken and Leek Dumplings, and anything on their traditional menu! more

Needs improvement 11/4/2004

The first clue should have been that on a Thursday night there were no other customers. We had the dumplings and pork bun appetizers, they were very chewy, hard to even cut open. They were not good. The Wonton soup tasted a little fishy and the fried rice had a strange flavor to it. How can you mess up fried rice? I was not impressed with the food and will not be visiting there again. more

Chinese? 11/3/2004

Bland food, poor service, ugly decor. I could deal with poor service and ignore the decor but the food was of the quality that comes from canned chinese. Limp. Bland. Uninspired. With so many other choices on Glenwood, just keep walkin! Cons: , service, decor more

Overpriced and bland 8/31/2004

The dishes that we tried were rather bland and could have used more salt, pepper, or something. The ambiance was lovely, but that was the only good part about it. You could find the same calibre food at a good Chinese take-out for less. Pros: Ambiance Cons: , Price more

Ho hum 2/29/2004

I don't mind that two waitresses were drinking when we walked in. I mind that we waited for 5 minutes for a table while they drank. The lamb in garlic sauce was drenched in boring chinese brown sauce was some overcooked and somewhat tough meat that could have been beef chuck. I expect that from a carry-out place. The Moo Goo Gai Pan was plain cantonese without surprises. Even the hot and sour soup tastes like it was flattened out for the masses. With all the positive reviews, I feel like I must have been in another restaurant altogether. Sure the place LOOKS nice. Probably a good date place. You could tuck away in a corner or belly up to the bar. But if it's good chinese food you're looking for, keep looking. I'm half inclined to try Cody's one more time. Maybe after I've sampled some other options first. Pros: Ambience, location Cons: , bland, typical more

Quite Ambience, Quiet Flavors 12/30/2003

We all go to restaurants for a short list of reasons: food, ambience, and price. Slipping into Cody's is like slipping into silk pajamas on a cool autumn night- comfortable, familiar, but somehow classier. But Cody's food left me feeling like my pajama-accompanying hot chocolate went cold. The dishes were prepared with little attention to details, such as slivered ginger in a stir-fry, or manageable bite-sized pieces, or even any distinct flavor. Itchy tag in those pajamas? That's just the over inflated bill coming to remind you that you can't judge a book by it's cover. Codys has a lot of potential- it just needs a more experienced chef. I will, from time-to-time, revisit Codys because eventually those pajamas will be comfortable and the hot chocolate will be warm. Pros: ambience Cons: bland flavor, poor presentation, over-priced more

Lets hope it was an off night 7/18/2003

Cody, you started with a beautiful concept but unfortunately it seems your restaurant has entered a downward spiral. My first visit was only for a cocktail but I was thoroughly impressed with the ambiance, which included servers dressed in kimonos. Unfortunately upon my second visit for dinner last night I found that you sold out to the black on black uniforms found all along glenwood ave. My server couldn't have been any nicer but the fact remains that if she was going to offer chopsticks (available upon request) they should be delivered before dinner was completed. As far as dinner is concerned, your sauces are flavorful but your chicken breasts are overcooked, leaving them dry and inedible. Your rice seems far from authentic, redering it moistureless without the sticky quality needed to achieve ideal chopstick application. You have a promising location and a popular concept. Please don't settle for mediocrity more

Great 6/13/2003

Cody's is a fantastic restaurant. The atmosphere is great and the food is awesome. The service is terrific and the free parking is a plus. Cody's is now on the top of my list of favorite restaurants. Pros: Free parking, Bar, Lovely decore more

Not Recommended 6/2/2003

While the place still has good food, portion sizes have gotten smaller while the prices are still jacked. It doesn't help that waiters bring you bottled water instead of tap water by default and then charge you for it without even asking-- how cheap can you get? The place has potential to be a hot spot, but they need a change of music and a much bigger lounge/bar area. All and all not worth it. Pros: good food, open late Cons: overpriced, small bar more

Best Raleigh Chinese! 4/30/2003

Cody's has quickly replaced 5 Star as my favorite Triangle Chinese restaurant. The service is always a pleasure, and the atmosphere is very Manhattan-bistro. The sesame chicken & the wonton soup are the best in Raleigh. A few notes of caution: 1. many dishes are VERY, VERY sweet, such as the Orange Chicken, Mango Chicken, & Gen. Tso's. 2.unlike most other Asian places, Cody's HOT & SPICY symbol is well-deserved. But the chef can make dishes mild to order, as I've discovered! more

Different & Surprise! 3/29/2003

Cody's Bistro has the finest atmosphere. The food has the highest quality I have ever tasted. For example, all beef and pork dishes use only tenderloin, chicken dishes are all white meat, and all the seafood and vegetable dishes are fresh. The cooking technique is unique compared to other Chinese restaurants. Try their volcano beef you will absolutely love it. There are many Chinese vegetable dishes for vegetarians to try also. Pros: free parking, bar, delivery more

Best Chinese Food in Town 2/27/2003

I've been to Cody's a couple times and each time i was there i was extremely pleased. Especially with the ginger lamb and the fruit shrimp. Those 2 entrees were the best chinese food that i've ever had. They have a variety of special dishes which i am determined to go back and try each and every one of them. more
