Was the best bar in San Antonio 6/13/2010

This bar used to be the most beautiful kept secret in San Antonio. Until the new Austin TX owner that owns the San Jose Hotel ruined it. How dare she!!!!!!! I want to know what in the hell she was thinking! Where did all the old furniture go????? She replaced it with cheap and ugly crap!! Thanks for ruining the best bar in San Antonio. Go back to Austin and keep it weird there and not here!! She also ruined the Havanna Hotel as well. more

Homophobic and Rude 2/15/2009

This was the first and last time I go to this bar. I found it to be extremely pretentious. The bartender was RUDE and homophobic. She literally refused to serve my friend and I. After letting friends know of my experience, they told me this person had refused to serve them at various visits. Overall, I would not frequent this hole in the ground (literally). There are better, more sophisticated, and welcoming bars in San Antonio. more

Disappointed 11/25/2008

We had high expectations after reading the other reviews, but the drinks were terrible and the crowd was rude. Too many other good bars around to spend time going to this one. more

Great atmosphere 3/6/2007

This place is definitely one of San Antonio's best kept secrets. It has a very cool, masculine, retro feel to it (you can just imagine Frank Sinatra puffing on a cigar in the corner), bring a date and she'll certainly be impressed. The bartenders are also sweet and very knowledgable. My only regret is that it closes so early on weeknights. Pros: Cool atmosphere, good service Cons: Hard to get to, closes early on weeknights more

Siting with Hemmingway 8/15/2005

This place screams ambiance!! Great place for ""drinks"". Would also be a great place for a group to go and drink, talk and believe it or not... actually hear them. Easy feel with a decent humidor selection. I recommend the C.A.O Belicoso cigar and a white Russian! Don't expect to pick someone up(not to say it can't happen), it's a come with kinda place. CLASSY!!! more

Great Place 7/26/2005

This place is a throwback to the 50's. Located at the basement of the Havana Riverwalk Inn, this bar is outfited with comfortable leather chairs and overstuff couches. The music is loud enough to enjoy, but it does not interfere with any conversations. The bartenders are gracious and friendly. This is a great spot for a drink before going out or as a cap on a great evening. If you get there later than 9:30 expect to stand. more

An Historic Jewel 9/19/2004

Intimate lounge, with an expansive patio overlooking a quiet section of the often loud river walk. If you want a nice, quiet nightcap, away from mad crowds, this is the place. If you're looking for a see-and-be-seen place, this is not the place. Great end-of-date exclamation. Pros: Intimate, Setting, Staff more

Classy and Comfortable 6/30/2004

Great, just like the hotel. Comfortable, good for groups or just two - friendly staff and good drinks. Pros: Drinks, Comfort, Location more

San Antonio's best-kept secret 6/24/2004

Nice, casual bar....great place to take a date. Cigar smoking allowed. more

I LOVE this place! 1/12/2004

You can never go wrong with Club Cohiba, one of our favorite spots. We even had our wedding afterparty here and stayed at the hotel (The Havanna) for our wedding night. It's great! Kinda pricey but worth it. more

New Years 2004 1/2/2004

Club Cohiba delivered 10 times over on what the review says. A couple friends and I were in from out of town and found this place on the internet. We had a fabulous time, the atmosphere was awesome, the drinks were great and the service was excellent. Looking forward to stopping in again come April for NIOSA. Pros: drinks, atmosphere, good price more

Nightmare 5/21/2003

Club Cohiba recently opened a restaurant in an adjoining space... looks great, but don't bother stepping in. We made reservations well in advance planning for a special event and they denied the reservation ever existed, even though THEY called to confirm. I would describe the service as abysmal if there had been ANY. We literally had to stop one of the many well-dressed employees and beg them to take our order. We left after more than almost two hours... without getting more than half of what we ordered! Simply put, don't bother. Too many other great places to enjoy downtown. Pros: Location Cons: Overpriced, Poor service, Rude employees more

Cool Place 1/12/2003

I went there last night with my husband and two friends. We got there about 9:30 and it was still quiet, but by 10:30 the place was packed with people. I liked it because it was a quiet place that allowed you to talk to others without yelling over obnoxious music. The drinks and cigars were great, too! The only complaint I have is that you had to go to the bar for drinks instead of being served by a cocktail waitress. Pros: Atmosphere more

Casually Cool 9/30/2002

The old-world allure of Club Cohiba is unlike anything else in San Antonio. We often find that women love the concept more than men... no televisions mean he might just have to focus on his date and have a real conversation. Far from being a hoppin' singles meat market, Cohiba tends to be the place where couples go for their special occasions, knowing that they will be taken care of in elegant, yet comfortable surroundings. Club Cohiba is better known for playing cool jazz derivative music than afro-Cuban; appeals to the voyeur in us all with its collection of antique mirrors; boasts one of the best collections of fine spirits in town; and wraps guests in leather club chair comfort. If you like even more privacy with your significant other, try out Club Cohiba Monday thru Thursday from 4-7pm for reasonably priced drinks and a truly intimate experience. Pros: comfortable, sexy, intimate Cons: expensive, hard to find, very small more

so sexy 7/29/2002

This bar beats any of our local (San Francisco) hangouts - at least since Hamburger Mary's closed - for kooky, comfortable furnishings, eccentric decor, and super sexy staff. Everyone who came in, from us uberhip designers to the Australian divorcees to the 20-something midwestern tourists, immediately fell into a laidback groove, and we were waited on by gorgeous, attentive staff. Plus they get big points for playing Fela Kuti and Nina Simone on the stereo. Pros: ecclectic decor, gorgeous staff, comfy chairs Cons: $10 drinks more
