This by far has been my worst apartment experience in my life and I know horrible apartments since I have lived in college apartments.\r Upon moving in the apartment above me has a dog that they let back 24hrs a day and I wish I was exaggerating in the least bit. I had to complain for over two weeks until they finally put a notice on that tenant?s door (which didn?t do anything)! Almost a month has gone and they seem to be brushing me off about this. I get awaken at all hours of the night because of this. Every time I went to the office they tried to act like it wasn?t that big of a deal. The management would tell me they would get in contact with me and let me know how the progress/situation was being handled?one big problem?they never bothered at any point to get my contact information, so how were they planning on ACTUALLY getting back to me about the problem? Every time, I walked into the front office they acted like they had never seen me before (the apartment complex isn?t that big for people not to look familiar). Then things get worse. The management as a solution to the tenant?s dog?s apparent ?anxiety? told them to turn the TV on for the dog which they blasted all hours of the day. So thus far it seems like I am one of those super sensitive people to sound right? Well I tried using ear plugs but that didn?t seem to help out much. \r Second the A/C in the apartment intermittently worked. When I put in a work order the lady who came to my apartment had the audacity to ask me if I knew how to use a thermostat (I?m a have a BS in Mechanical Engineering, I?m pretty sure I can tell when my A/C is broken). So if the dog didn?t wake me up in the middle of the night then the extreme heat in the apartment would. \r Also there is a fire place by the pool?apparently it is ornamental since the pool closes at 8pm and the sun is still shinning bright as day at that time. \r The gate is half the time broken, and depending on where you live in the complex you might have to walk your groceries half a football field or more to your apartment. \r I am astonished at the lack of professionalism shown by the management here at this apartment complex, not to mention their laziness and condescension. Nobody should have to be treated with such disrespect as I have had to deal with. All I wanted to do was be able to sleep at night so I wouldn?t have to show up to work and do my best, which is a little hard when you haven?t been getting good sleep at night for over a MONTH. Do yourself a favor if you are looking to rent?don?t do so here. You would be better off living out of your car. You would also likely be happier. \r Oh, well I guess it isn?t fair of me to not mention anything positive. They do have an opening for a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment?.you guessed it?.my old apartment! And for your added pleasure, horribly unprofessional and incompetent apartment management and personnel await your arrival! But wait there is more?if you act now, you will get the esteemed pleasure of having a terribly selfish, rude neighbor above you who will guarantee to wake you up at all hours of the night. Sorry, it won?t be in the way you are envisioning it right now?it will be the constant 24/7 barking of her dog. more

My roommates and I rented an apartment here for a year and it was one of the worst experiences we have had with a business. Putting aside the disappointment of the actual apartment, the leasing representatives should be considered nothing more than underhanded used car salesmen. It was their ability to weasel their way out of any situation and squeeze every bit of money they can out of you that made me feel like I needed to write this review. \r \r The office staff appears to be helpful and flexible when renting you the apartment but after that you will never be able to get them to do anything. Whether it's returning an email or fix something in your unit they avoid their tenants like the plague. There were problems in the apartment from the first week that were still not fixed when we moved out a year later. In fact, I don't think you can call yourself a gated apartment complex when both of the gates have not worked a single night in the last year (causing an alarm to go off almost every night). The biggest problem was at the end of the year when we moved out. The office tried everything they could to scam us out of as much money as they could. They ended up forcing us to rent the apartment for an additional month because they conveniently lost our notice to move out and claimed to have never received the documentation. Then they would not let us stay in the apartment for that additional month. So we are currently paying them rent and yet aren't allowed to use the apartment. \r \r The apartment itself seems as if it was built by guys on stilts. Good luck trying to hang things on crooked walls and doorways. The dryer that come with the apartment literally burn clothing so prepare yourself to buy a new dryer because the office will not do anything about it. The walls are extremely thin so where you can hear normal conversations from the next apartment. The grills at the pool would be nice... if there was ever actually any propane in them. Bugs were not as bad as some cheaper apartments but the other apartments that I lived at were college apartments so I may be used to them. \r \r The bottom line is that there is a catch to everything with these apartments and the agents will swindle you out of whatever money they can. more

Severe Cockroach Problem and Management Negligence 7/16/2011

About a year ago, I was in the same position as you, searching review websites and looking for a decent new home for me to spend the next year or two of my post-graduate life. I decided on Clairmont at Farmgate because, quite frankly, there were no reviews for it yet so I figured no reviews is better than bad reviews. A summary of my experience at Clairmont at Farmgate is as follows: * My apartment has had (and still has) a severe cockroach infestation which the office has failed to address, to the point where I had to leave before my lease ended. *It came to the point that I could not spend nights in my own apartment that I am paying $800 a month for. I would come home from work, spray Raid, and pick up the cockroaches I found crawling in my shower, on my bed, in my kitchen cabinets, etc... and leave to spend the night elsewhere. *The office refused to come to any compromise about paying out the rest of my lease. In fact, the management at Kotarides chose to ignore my emails and phone messages. *I moved on a Saturday, my move-out inspection was on a Monday. During my move-out inspection, there was a cockroach laying on my kitchen floor which the manager chose to ignore even after I pointed it out. (!!!) * My apartment has been home to cockroaches of all shapes and sizes, I have seen several cockroach egg casings in my bathroom along with hundreds of babies(I didn't know what babies or egg casings looked like until Clairmont). *Only after I notified the office that I was leaving before my lease was the situation brought to management's attention. *The manager proceeded to perform an ""investigation"" to find out where the problem was coming from. This is where the story gets interesting, one woman at the leasing office told me that the source of the cockroaches was my neighbor downstairs and that they had a severe infestation. When I asked the manager, she told me that a ""minimal issue"" was found but that is was nothing to explain my cockroach sightings (she basically told me I was making it up / I was crazy). Well, lucky for her I have dated pictures! *I have been a very loyal renter, paid my rent on time, and in return, I get lied to ignored and have not been able to reach any kind of compromise. I am a fairly easy person to please, noise doesn't bother me, parking is not a big deal, I don't care much for amenities like gyms and pools. All I wanted in my apartment is a clean place that I can feel comfortable and safe in. Clairmont at Farmgate failed to provide such an environment for me. Throughout my three years of renting apartments in college, never have I faced such negligence as I have here with the management staff at Clairmont at Farmgate, and subsequently with the Kotarides property management in Virginia. One thing I have learned from this experience is that if you see one cockroach in your apartment, you have an infestation. In the case of Clairmont of Farmgate, that infestation will not go away. They will simply put your name on a list and that will be that. The best decision I have ever made was leaving Clairmont at Farmgate as soon I could. Now, in the new place I am renting, I can come home from work and not have a cockroach family reunion on my kitchen floor. It has been a long time since I've had that feeling. more
