Cinema Village chooses great films, and shows them in an arena of comfort and almost ridiculous proximity to Brendon Blake's apartment.

Uncomfortable 5/28/2006

Cinema Village is in a cool old building, and it's large theatre is a great space. Unfortunately its seats are very uncomfortable, and the concession stand is weak. Also several of the other screening rooms in teh place are so tiny as to be laughable. Give it a pass. There are better mainstream and alternative theatres in the neighborhood. more

Eclectic Indie Movie Theater 8/26/2005

Cinema Village is a niche movie theater. I really appreciate that it exists. It plays those movies that are not going to go to the Landmarks and Lowes theaters. This is definitely the kind of place for the hard-core fan of whatever genre they are playing. The theaters themselves are small and awkwardly positioned, but at least they are playing that movie that you really wanted to see and wouldn't be able to see in Middle America. This theater epitomizes New York City. If you are extra tall or like plenty of leg room, you will probably complain here. This theater also has rules when it comes to lining up to go into a theater. They do things their own way with a velvet roped off area outside. The attendants will let you in at the appropriate time. more

Again, too artsy 8/20/2005

Cinema Village, like the Angelika Film Center is one of those movie theaters that you drive by, look at the marquee and realize that you’ve never heard of any of these movies. Personally, I went there once and I found the place to be filled with hipsters and never went back, but I constantly see big lines in front of the place, so they must be doing something right. I just don’t know what it is. more
