Great Sangria & Tacos 4/5/2011

Just ate at this Upper East Side mexican restaurant, and it was delicious. Only waited a few minutes for a table of 4 on a Friday night. Sangria was amazing... but a little pricey. Highly recommend the fish tacos! more

What happen??? 3/27/2009

I lived in NYC 1 year ago, and I had to leave town for 6 months. Im back again, but I really miss the happiness and all the smiles, funny stuff, Cilantro used to have before. The people who USED to work there was the KEY os their success.. Remeber that Cilantro is a mexican rest. and mexicans has a smile ALWAYS, for everyone, that could rise up your day. Pros: Example: best croissants in town Cons: What are the drawbacks? more

Not as good as the West Side location 8/14/2008

About a month ago I met friends for dinner at the west side location. They gave us plantains & chips as a munchie and brought our drinks out promptly. I had the special - a salad with spicy shrimp which had 8 good sized shrimp on it - well worth the $17 I spent on it. Drinks were good too. more

Tastes like burnt 6/17/2008

The food (I got the chicken taco's) were burnt chicken chunks. I couldnt' finish it and I love any type of mexican. The basket you get prior to the food of plantano's and chips are the best and the salsa is good. Pros: sugar water Cons: sugar water, burnt meat? more

Dirty, Disgusting, Awful - INSECT & HAIR!!! 6/10/2008

This was by far the most disgusting vile dining experience I have ever had. I ordered a chopped salad for lunch and it arrives with a hair right on top - right on top!! no one even noticed it! I send it back as soon as the waiter places it down. The bring me another one (as I decide that i will be mature about it since it was literally right on top perhaps it just had fallen in and hopefully the next one i got would be fine) ... well of course with the second salad i was watching every single bite that entered my mouth - well my third forkful was an insect, legs head and all, a big insect!!! the size of a moth! GROSS!!!!!!!! i call the waiter over to show him and leave and he says ""one minute"", proceeds to leave my plate there and another man comes over, possibly a manager of sorts and picks up the bugh (which i had flung off my fork on to the table) with his fingers looks at it, picks up my plate with the other hand and without an apology or anything asks me ""can i get you something else?""!!!! i got up and left right away - UNREAL!!! Cons: dirty, poor service, dirty, dirty, dirty more

Lousy Food, Overpriced, Terrible Service and Unclean 1/11/2007

I went there for lunch one day and the place seemed to being doing average business. The black bean soup i ordered ($8 dollar soup) came out looking like raw sewage. not very much taste to it and was unappetizing. The waitress was not friendly and kept playing with her hair at the bar then touching and playing with the straws at the bar while socializing with the bartender. This totally grossed me out. The restaurant seemed like it never had been cleaned and when my soup came out I asked for crackers or bread or something and waitress seemed to be annoyed by this request. When I looked around at everyone else in the restaurant i noticed that they were given the standard chips and salsa like any other mexican restaurant. I ordered 2 sangrias and when I asked the waitress what was in it - she didn't know and also didn't seem at all interested in finding out. All she had to do was ask the bartender. This place was a dissappointment. Like many other places on the Upper East Side, it appeals to the yuppie element with no regard to quality or integrity - just alot of FLUFF! Cons: Tasteless Food, Lousy Service & Overpriced Slop Served more

Go on Monday night for 10.00 Fajita's 10/25/2006

In a city where people pay 15 bucks for guacamole, it's hard to find quality food that will not cost half of your daily paycheck. Cilantro is a perfect place to meet up with friends. You'll get quality food (the steak fajita's are amazing) and you won't put a hole in your wallet. The drinks are strong but don't bother with the coconut margarita's because you'll usually wind up with clumps of the mix in in your straw (yuck). Check it out. Pros: Good food, great Fajita's, good value Cons: UES location more

Great 10/21/2006

The Upper East Side, as Ive mentioned before, is not my forte. But, every once in a while, one must travel above14th Street. Or, 42nd Street. Or, 59th Street. What we find on the southwest corner of 70th & 1st Avenue is a delightfully casual Mexican restaurant called Cilantro. Its unassuming and seems to blend into the myriad of endless restaurants lining 1st-3rd Avenue. But, when I was craving some great margaritas and guacamole, that is precisely what I found at Cilantro. The food and drink here in this modestly decorated restaurant are incredibly well priced. Most restaurants present a small ramekin of guacamole for $10.00. A few dips of the chips and the green goodness is gone. But, not here. They provide an overwhelming amount of freshly prepared guacamole. Its an amazing bargain, honestly. And, the margaritas are not served flimsily in dainty glasses. You get a tall, substantial glass and if youre fortunate, as I was that evening, theyll offer their watermelon margaritas with fresh watermelon puree. Amazing. The rest of the food is abundant and good, but what most impress me is their guacamole and margaritas, a staple where ever I seek Mexican, even if on the Upper East Side more

Hurried us out the door 5/5/2006

A couple friends and I went here to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. There was a wait, and although it's nice to eat outside, we basically had a view of parked cars. The food was average, our waitress was very nice, but the main draw was the margaritas and sangria. Unfortunately, as we were finishing up, the manager hovered around us and asked us to go to the bar to finish our drinks because there were other people waiting. We had just spent over $100 and all we wanted to do was finish up our last glasses of sangria- it was literally a matter of 10 minutes. This thoroughly ruined the experience and it's safe to say I will not be returning. more

Great all around 3/16/2004

This is a great spot for delicious Mexican food at a good price in a fun atmosphere. Margaritas are perfect start and go great with the homemade chips and salsa on the table. Fajitas (steak, chicken, veggie) are not to be missed. Pros: Delicious Food, Value, Fun Atmosphere more
