Chutneys on 15th 10/30/2006

i LOVE indian food, and haven't found any mind-blowing indian restaurants around here. that said, we really like Chutneys on 15th. In fact, we like it so much that we have tried all of their other restaurants, none of which was any good at all. but the one on 15th is EXCELLENT! There is a really great Indian place on Queen Anne Ave, down at the base of QA (by Key arena) but i can't remember what it's called. NOT the Chutneys there, which hasn't been good any time we've tried, it, but almost across the street from the Chutneys... more

This restaurant was recommended to me by my friend from California so we decided to check it out . My family of four arrived at the restaurant on a Friday around 7 pm. The restaurant is quite charming with a patio and glass all around. The host was friendly and greeted us and took us to our table and with out much delay we were served Papadaum and chutneys and water was poured. The wait person followed shortly and inquired us if this was our first visit to which we said yes. She explained to us the menu page by page in a quick summary and made our experience already wonderful. She recommended Chicken kastoori which was a saffron sauce and Rack of lamb from Tandoor oven. The lamb just melts in your mouth wow! my kids decided to branch out and try the Halibut Tandoori and Chicken tikka masala. We have tried Indian food in Seattle and around Seattle for years but this was the Best so far . we cannot wait to go back- oh I don't want to forget the great mango cheesecake we had for dessert. excellent- keep up the good food and quality chutneys grille- you guys are the BEST EVER more

Pricey but tasty Indian 6/20/2006

My tried and true Indian restaurant is India Express on Broadway but recently they lost their liquor license and because we were in need of a cocktail, we headed over to Chutney's on 15th. We've avoided this place because they claim to be "fine dining" Indian and good Indian IMHO doesn't require a white tablecloth. But we went and here are my thoughts: 1. Food was tasty. I ordered my usual: Chicken Tikka Masala and Alu Gobi. Both were great and the Tikka Masala sauce was exceptionally creamy-definitely 5 stars. 2. Service. 2 stars here. While very polite and friendly, they mixed up our friend's order and forgot our appetizer. They did make up for it with free dessert but it was a little too late 3. Ambiance: certainly nicer than India Express (which is not hard to beat) but not necessarily an important factor for me for eating Indian 4. Price: nearly double the cost of India Express and not significantly better. Chicken Tikka Masala was about $16 here for reference. If you're looking for a fancier Indian establishment check it out, but I'd still recommend India Express just down the road. more
