Impossible to reach...charges for your own property 12/12/2009

This doctor picked up and moved to Canarsie. No notice no forwarding address. She took my property with her and I had to beg her for it. Not only did it take me two weeks and 20 voice mails to get my pets records she charged me for every page. $1.75 for each . There were 6 cover pages and most of the other records were impossible to read. She was nasty and arrogant, horrible experience. I wouldn't recommend using this Vet to anyone for any pet. Please think twice before going to her. I found a wonderful Clinic on Fifth Avenue called THE CAT PRACTICE...212.677.1401. They are TERRIFIC. Pros: The ONLY pro is her dog Charlie Cons: MANY, MANY, MANY more

Follow-up 10/18/2009

Needing to get copies of my cat Jupiter's medical records I was a bit weary of calling Dr. P. at her new location as I was never notified about her move (had to read about it after some web research.) It turns out that she had mailed out letters to all of her patients explaining the move. Unfortunately I was one of the unlucky ones that never received one (and no, I never changed addresses or anything like that.) In any case, Dr. P. could not have been more helpful and apologetic on the phone. I always felt that she was very thorough in her treatment and care of my pets and wish her the best of luck in her new practice. more

Lucky Dogs! 10/16/2009

Dr. Prattis is one of the most nurturing veterinarians I know. She has taken wonderful care of my two baby-dogs, Sinclaire and Rosie for years. I was nervous when I received her letter and phone call saying that she was moving to Brooklyn because I did not want to find a new vet. Not only did she reach out numerous times in advance of the move, I was invited, with the others, to a party before the move. Dr. Prattis is so committed to all of her Manhattan clients that she pays home visits at no extra charge. Recently my 12 year old, Sinclaire, got very sick. I almost lost him but because of the house call visits by Dr. Prattis, he is back to his playful, loving self in perfect health. Not only did she examine and diagnose him at my home, she came back twice to deliver his prescription. Such dedication and love for her four legged patients is unmatched and I now have friends that go to her in brooklyn. Pros: Great care for your pets Cons: None more

We miss Dr Prattis ! 10/2/2009

Dr. Prattis and her staff took care of our cats, Precious and Clax. We were so impressed with the care that was taken for their exam, in the follow up for letting us know what was happening with the health, and the way that they really took to her. Maybe we will take the L train out to see her ! By the way, we got a long letter from her thanking us for our loyalty, giving directions to the new office (with address, phone and fax number included), and offering us housecalls at a discount. I could not disagree with the negative reviewers more, and I have other friends in my building that used her who got the letter and feel the same way.. Pros: She was terrific, and we are sorry that she moved. more

What Happened??!! 7/24/2009

Found this after some googling: newyork.backpage. com/GeneralCommunity/new_vet_hospital_in_canarsie/classifieds/ViewAd?oid=8396465 Dr. Prattis just set up shop in Canarsie: New Vet Hospital in Canarsie posted: July 23, 2009, 01:48 PM WELCOME TO OUR NEW PRACTICE WHERE WE CARE ABOUT YOUR PETS AND FAMILY 15 % OFF FIRST VISIT WITH FLYER VIP VETERINARY HOSPITAL, PC DR. Took a walk down there this morning and the place is TOTALLY CLEANED OUT!! Where did my pet records go?? OMG - glad I kept my cat's vaccination records. This is unbelievable. I'd like to think something absolutely insane happened and will give Dr. P. the benefit of the doubt because for the most part she was always very thorough, although pricy and charged A LOT for A LOT of tests. I took that as a sign that she wanted the best for all her patients. Wish she had contacted people to say what happened/where she was going. What do people think of Abington Sq vet or the west side vet hospital?? more

Overall Positive Experience 6/8/2009

Brought in my elderly neighbor's long neglected poodle for her when she was in the hospital and Dr, Prattis couldn't be nicer or more helpful. Prices were reasonable (even for the meds) and she was great about answering questions both during the visit and afterward when I called to follow up. Seemed very knowledgeable. She is more technical than some vets and frankly I liked that. If I were to guess I'd say she has a science background (biology? chemistry?) and it shows. She may not be the most demonstrative vet in the city but she was gentle and kind to the dog and her treatment was spot on. Honestly couldn't ask for more and wouldn't hesitate to bring in any animal I care for and/or about. Pros: patient staff. reasonable prices, good location, clean Cons: office decor could use some updating more

Awful Experience 6/2/2009

Be forewarned - stay away from this vet (Susan Prattis). While she may be competent, you can plan on being nickel and dimed to death. If she makes a mistake and overcharges your card, you will not see this money again. She will play dumb, as though she's never credited back a card in her life. She will constantly try to push unnecessary tests and procedures. She will be dishonest if it means squeezing an extra payment out of you. If you contradict her, be prepared for a rude and exceptionally unprofessional response. While I don't want to be too specific for the sake of anonymity, all of this happened in my (thankfully) brief experience with her. I wish the negative reviews had been published before I tried her out - they are spot on. Be aware that many of the positive reviews written about VIP on other sites are for the previous owner. There are much better options in the neighborhood. I've found one already, and what a relief to know that there are actually some good, honest, friendly vets in the West Village. Susan Prattis is not one of them. Pros: Location Cons: Vet is constantly nickel and diming, rude when called on it more

Excellent Experience 5/30/2009

We took our two new kiittens to Dr. Prattis because she had taken over the office from our previous vet (who I considered one of the finest I'd ever met). We were not dissappointed. Her professionalism, caring, and consideration were beyond reproach. She truly cares and took the time to make us, and the kitties, comfortable. We are happy to be in such good hands. Thank you, Dr. Prattis! Pros: Loves Animals more

Good Vet 5/8/2009

Dr. Pratis is a smart Vet. Was unpleased to find there was a sewage break and the phone lines were down for three days and was unable to contact the vet. Pros: Medical Diagnosis, Fair Pricing, Easy Access Cons: Communication, Business Manager more

Fee for Records 4/27/2009

I think going to the vet is very costly, and if you need to pick up the cats old test results in an emergency you shouldn't have to pay a photocopy fee. Pros: The doctor is nice Cons: Paying for records more

Terrible vet. Only after the money 4/2/2009

I went to Dr Prattis to get my 2 kittens nuetered. Even though I had muffins certificated I ended up paying over $200! She promised to mail me the rabies certificates, however, I didn't get them. When I called back 3 weeks later she said that I have to come in for a re-check to get the rabies certificates. All a ploy to charge me more for a 'checkup' when the kittens are completely fine. I paid for the rabies vaccines ($40 each) and yet she's holding out on giving me the certificate. Definitely going to file a report against her. She's awful! Avoid her at all costs! Pros: none! Cons: Only after money, doesnt care about the pets more

awful customer service, NO followup or followthrough 4/1/2009

i have to communicate my utter dissatisfaction with this vet. while the vet seems knowledgeable, she lacks basic communication skills, compassion, organization. ie) 1. cant patiently explain why we need to spend hundreds on a test, nor effectively communicates results (without getting upset) 2. doesnt send out lab samples from her office after we spend hundreds on testing 3. doesnt followup with lab to get results back - its been 4 weeks, still nothing 4. doesnt call back, and no one picks up phone until after noon 5. completely loses track and confuses appt dates 6. rude: when asked to elaborate on details on dog medical condition, im told i need to "take an anatomy class" 7. stalled for weeks for us to get copies of medical records. finally we went in and offered to borrow our dogs' records and copy ourselves at a nearby kinkos, which she responded that we have to pay $1.50 PER PAGE and get the copies from HER honestly, i wouldnt wish this vet on my worst enemy. there are plenty of qualified vets in the city and the west village, and i dont feel like my dog or I got the decent courtesy we deserve . in fact, she continues to this day to add unnecessary stress to our lives as we have to chase her to get results on tests, only to get rude responses and no action. we've spent several hundred dollars in her office, and unfortunately i feel that she's taking for granted that we would do anything to keep our dog healthy. criticism sounds harsh, but be forewarned. Pros: cheaper office price, but you get what you pay for Cons: vet is extremely poor at communicating and following through more

A truly caring and special office 8/20/2008

We have a relatively young and healthy Scottish Terrier, who began at this office when it was owned by the previous Doctor. When Dr Prattis took over, my husband, (himself a medical professional) was instantly impressed by the quality of the care our "furbaby" received. Now we no longer live downtown but travel from another borough, because we feel this office is so special. The few times our dog has been sick we have received the most thorough, but not excessive, tests and care, all at a reasonable and understandable rate. Pros: A caring environment; helpful, patient staff; well-priced services Cons: None at all more

very disappointed with the new doctor 6/16/2008

I was a patient at VIP for years. The previous owner was WONDERFUL. I just had to take my 2 dogs in for checkups, and met the new doctor. Although she seemed nice, she told me both dogs needed to go under anesthesia to have their teeth cleaned. The estimate was over one thousand dollars. I did not feel comfortable. I took my dogs to a different practice in the neighborhood, and the other vet showed me that my dogs had very mild tartar- and that vet said that I should not put my dogs under the risk of anesthesia for such a minor amount of dental tartar. I think this doctor is just trying to generate income. I would never go back. Pros: right around the corner Cons: no privacy in exam room (windows exposed to street! ! ! ) and bad dr more

Terrific Vet 11/30/2007

I have to say- I am suprised by two of the reviews. I have found the vet and her staff to be extremely professional, friendly and attentive. The doctor spends as much time as needed with me every time I visit- she is completely present- and is wonderful with my testy and oftentimes unpredictable cats. Yes, the old vet was terrific, but Dr. Pratis is talented in her own way. The office is completely revamped yet has still remained part of the neighborhood. Obviously, a vet experience is very subjective. But I have had success with Dr. Pratis and would recommend her and her staff to anyone looking for care. Pros: Clean, friendly and attentive/ Saturday hours Cons: Hours are not always the same more

A nice doctor with good staff 11/15/2007

I have met the new doctor and her staff - and I do like the people that are working there now. They have taken good care of my baby (Belle, my 12 year old kitty) when she had a problem with her stomach and bowels, and for a dental cleaning. She got better quickly the first time, and her teeth sparkled (and no more bad breath !) after the dental work. And, everyone was friendly to me and attentive to Belle, and professional, every time I have gone in or called. I have sent friends to the practice with their pets too, and they tell me the same thing. more

Excellent Village Vet 7/2/2007

We have three yellow labs who get excellent care at VIP Vets on Christopher. To be honest, we were a little worried when the practice changed over to Dr. Prattis, a new doctor whom we didn't know. Our girls are 12 years, 10 years, and 5 months, so we've been in to see Dr. Prattis many times since she has taken over. She is an excellent doctor who is extremely caring and gentle with our girls. We feel very comfortable and confident with Dr. Prattis and her staff, and believe me - we are very particular when it comes to our dogs. The staff there is so good with the girls, too - to the point that our puppy literally drags us to the vets office because she wants to get some lovin', and treats, of course. The thing that I love about Dr. Prattis is that, as with all of our dogs, she has a very common sense approach with the girls. She doesn't rush to the "lets do surgery" point. She doesn't prescribe anything unless really necessary. And when we come in for our appointment, she treats our girls like they are her own dogs. We are extremely happy with our new vet and her staff, and would - and have - recommended them to our friends and neighbors. Pros: Excellent Straight-forward Care. Cons: New Office Startup things - wait a little bit long for check out. No big deal. more

At Christopher Park Veterinary Hospital we believe in treating all animals as if they were our own.
We greatly value the human animal bond.

We are located in The West Village of Manhattan and service all areas including Greenwich Village, Chelsea, Tribeca, Soho, Hudson Square,
Both our Veterinarians have over 20 years experience working with animals. We believe pets should be seen by the same veterinarians to become thoroughly familiar with their unique medical issues, instead of being seen by multiple doctors. Both Dr. James Melendez and Dr. Howard Cohen are medical directors of Christopher Park Animal Hospital and are the only staff veterinarians.
