I'm a bath-kitchen designer. I refer all of my clients to Chown. Why? They have a wide range of products to fit most budgets, and their service is unbeatable! Chown has a courteous staff of knowledgeable assistants to help people make informed decisions, to stay within a reasonable budget. Unlike other plumbing and hardware suppliers, the Chown employees are NOT simply order takers. There's a reason that they are the oldest plumbing and hardware store. The Chown family has operated the business since Oregon was a new state. There are so many ""fly-by-night"" companies, whether brick and mortar or operating in cyberspace, who sell similar-looking products, sometimes for less, but none of them provides REAL VALUE, because they do not offer the selection and 5-star service that Chown Hardware does. I can always count on CHOWN HARDWARE for all my specialty hardware and plumbing needs. They have the most knowlegable and friendly staff in town. In an age of the BIG BOX store and discount on-line shopping sites, CHOWN still has the best quality and price with the least amount of hassle. I purchased an entire home worth of plumbing fixtures from Chown. I'd do it again. Not only was everyihing as ordered and on time, but each box was marked with the room it was to go into, saving the plumber and me much guesswork. Best selection of hardware and fixtures in town. As a designer, I have referred clients to Chown for years. They have received excellent service from the highly knowledgeable staff there. The staff at Chown Hardware are rude and unhelpful. Their ""commercial"" department is a complete joke. Today I spoke to a very rude woman on the phone as I was trying to order more FOBs (electronic keys). After getting frustrated and ending the call, because she would offer me no help, I went online and found that I could order the FOBs for cheaper. My partner and I have spend the last 6 years on our ""fixer"". When we have needed hardware we check out Chown and each time we leave because of their unhelpful staff. They have a great selection of hardware, but who knows what the price is and if you can ever find anyone to help you. I went in today, knowing exactly what I wanted. I was willing to pay the price I just needed to know if they had it in stock. If so, great, I would buy it. If not, then thanks for checking. Easy... I had one clerk make eye contact and quickly look away. There was no ""Have you been helped?"", ""I'll be with you in a minute."" Nothing. Total disregard for a paying customer that didn't need any sales pitch or specialty info. I will not go back again. I'm done with Chown and their snotty attitude. Apparently they are in the practice of sizing you up before they decide if they are going to help you or not. I'm done with Chown. I'll buy any future house parts online. This place is heads above the competition in Portland, though you're better off searching online for more affordable prices. Sales staff is relatively competent and tries to help as best as they can. A good place to window shop. Pros: Great Selection Cons: High Prices, Slow Service more
