Sound Good! 6/19/2011

I went to an all you can eat Chinese place in Las Vegas, when I lived there. It was great cuz I really love Cream Cheese Crab Wontons and for the one price I got all I wanted. :) I was in heaven. Only went once in the three and a half years I lived there but it was memorable. I really like Panda Express but cant afford it too often in fact in the five years I havelived here in the Salt Lake area Ive only went once. So I did a search for an all you can eat Chinese Buffet and it brought me here to Chinese Gourmet. And I used to live really close to it and know where it is located. What I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the lunch and dinner costs areper person, so if I have the funds my family and I could consider dining at Chinese Gourmet. Then I could write my own raving review. From what I have read it sounds really good. Thank you more

Manager, BILL, customer service POOR 6/14/2011

I took a group of people to the Chinese Gourmet on Sat, June 11, 2011. None of these people had ever been to this restaurant. I had called ahead the day before and told the person answering the phone that I was bringing a group, but that I didn't have an exact count nor did I know the exact time we would be arriving at the restaurant. I asked if I called ahead about 30 minutes before we arrived with the info would they be able to accommodate us. I was told yes. On Sat I called again and verified the information. Again I was told yes they could accommodate us. About 30-40 minutes before we arrived at the restaurant I called again, gave them the count and my name. One of the couples from out group arrived before the rest of us, they did not have a table but told them to wait and they would see what they could do. I arrived and told the hostess that they should have a table for us and gave her my name. I was told at that point that they do not hold tables on the weekend. I explained that I had called ahead three times and was told the same thing. She said did you talk to a manager. I said no, nor was I told I needed to talk to a manager. I was told that they were working on it, I walked back to the rest of the group, and was then called by the hostess to talk to a manager. A very nice lady came up and asked about the situation. I informed her of what happened and just simply said that when someone calls in they need to be given the right information. As I was talking to the lady manager, another manager came up, his name is BILL. He made the situation worse by saying ""we have it taken care of so I don't know why you are even complaining and he keep it up, talking extremely loud."" At that point, I told him he was making the situation worse and he needed to stop talking. He keep it up. I turned to him and told him he needed to be fired, because his customer service was piss poor. On the up side the food was great and the service was great. I will not take a group back to this restaurant, especially on the weekend. more

SOOO YUMMY! 8/1/2009

I have been coming here since I was little, I used to go with my father almost once a week. The mongolian Barbeque is to die for, and the salad bar is spectacular! Eat all the awesome food you want, for cheap. I lately had been going to another one a little further away from me for the all you can eat crab legs, which are an every night thing, but tonight I am eating at my old resting spot ;-). Treat yourself, you'll see why there are so many great reviews! Pros: The food is awesome! Cons: Gets pretty busy only cause it's amazing! more

Unbeatable! 2/7/2009

It's truly interesting reading the negative comments on here obviously made by jealous competitors! The truth is that this buffet is the highest quality and tastiest for the money! The main time that I go here is on fridays. Their friday dinners include all you can eat prime rib, butterflyed fried shrimp, steak, salmon, as well as a seemingly endless array of all the delicious Chinese dishes that you can eat. And their desserts, for a buffet, are scrumptious! Hint: Arrive there BEFORE 4:00 pm and you can get the dinner (which starts at 4;00) for the lunch price! This includes their prime rib dinner buffet on fridays! As an expert on Chinese cuisine, I'm telling you that this is a deal that you can't beat (especially if you get the senior lunch price)! Bon Apetit! Pros: The selection and quality of the food is ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!! Cons: Sometimes parking is a little scarce more

yuck 12/20/2008

the only thing edible is the mongolian bbq, but even there you have to be careful. this place is scary! Cons: scary food, screaming kids more

Clean and Yummy! 12/4/2008

I try to eat at the Chinese Gourmet at least once a week and they are always very attentive and friendly. The food is not really gourmet, but it's pretty darn good. The place is always clean and the manager checks in on you from time to time. Pros: Clean and good variety Cons: big crowds more

Its edible! Barely! 5/13/2008

While its nice to have a bufffet style of food, sometimes quality is better than quantity. Depending on the day of the week and the type of food served will depend alot on how you experience this place. The food quite often has been sitting for long periods, and often is under cooked. Frequently some dishes like the vegtables are sour tasting. Pros: Mongolian BBQ Cons: Everything else! Mangement does not seem to care about customers needs! more

not so good customer service 5/13/2008

I have gone to the Chinese Gourmet alot of times, and some times are better then others. So times you get seated right away and other times it take time. The food is ok, some days are better then other days. I do think they over charge for kids though. I think kids under 3 should be free. The bathrooms are not always clean. The servers have much to be desired. There again some are better then others. Pros: food is good most of the time, Cons: customer service and parking are not that great more

Worth every penny. 3/21/2008

This is my first review of any restaurant but not my first chinese buffet by far. I used to frequent another local buffet for the crab legs, which are kinda small, but after the first time at the Chinese Buffet I have been back several times. The price is comparable to any other but the variety is far more extensive. They have quite a large salad selection and Mongolian BBQ section. I try to go most fridays for the roast beef and Whitefish. The roast beef does tend to have a lot of fat but you can go back for as much as you want. It has a nice texture and flavor too, especially with the plentiful Au Jus and horseradish sauces. The Whitefish is very tender and has a nice flavor to it. Their fried butterfly shrimp is very tasety also. I will be going there tonight as a matter of fact. There are long lines at peak dinner times but that is just a testiment to the quality of the place. Hundreds of people can't all be wrong. Pros: price, conveinience, quality Cons: long lines more

What You'd Expect for the Cost 11/6/2007

We've eaten here once in the time we've lived in Utah. The prices are reasonable for an adult dinner and the fact that you're getting such a large buffet full of options. The food is about what I'd consider average. It's edible, there's a couple good dishes, but it's not the best I've had either. Pros: Cheap meal, Filling, Variety Cons: Not super delicious more

You mean ""Mexican Gourmet"" 10/4/2006

The food there is quite tasty, and always leaves me satisfied. However, the prices continue to rise for admission each time I go there, and are getting steep. The atmosphere is also getting worse, unless you speak spanish and enjoy being sandwiched in a room with wall-to-wall mexican customers and employees. Pros: Good Food Cons: Lame atmosphere, too few legal residents of the U.S.A. inside more

What Happened? 10/25/2005

We have been going here for lunch for years, along with a remodel came some bad service and longer lines. You used to able to walk up to any bar and get your food and now it seems like you have to stand and wait for everything. Food is still pretty good, it used to be fun in there and now it just seems like the fun is gone, and the servers act put out that you might need something. The host and cashiers seem a little rude too. Pros: Cheap, Lots of food Cons: Parking, Service, Long lines more

Quick fast and many selection items 8/5/2005

If you are looking for a quick, fast, and reasonable meal this is the place. There is a variety of items for all diners. The stir fry line is worth the wait. This is a yummy stir fry which you get to choose what you want cooked. Pros: Fast, Variety of items Cons: Slow service more

Cafeteria Chinese 2/2/2003

This is can hardly be classified as ""cuisine"". I would rather eat frozen chinese from the local grocery store. The food was bland, dry and all in all boring. If they serve chinese in a school lunch, this would be it. I am always amazed at what Utahans classify as good retaurants. This restaurant would not be able to stay open more than a couple months in any other state. Cons: overcrowded, bad food, cafeteria ambience more

good Chinese buffet 1/5/2003

Good value and good food. The staff is very eager to please. Pros: good food, great selection, helpful staff Cons: noisy more

Chinese Gourmet 11/9/2002

I really like this restaurant. It has so many different selections, very good service, and a comfortable atmosphere. Very fun! Pros: many selections, all types of food Cons: expensive more

food taster 11/9/2002

This restraunt has a wide variety of food to suit everyone's taste. Mix and match type set-up. Food is great tasting. Price is great. Don't have to wait for long in a long line. Pros: Inexpensive, Large Variety, Great tasting Cons: Noisey, crowed at times, Good for kids more

Red Neck Buffet 11/8/2002

If your gut hangs over your belt you'll be happy here. ""Quanity"" this buffet has, but ""Quality"" it most certainly lacks! Yuck!!!! Pros: Fairly Clean, Lot's o' food Cons: Cattle Herd Place, Bad "Las Vegas" feel more

Worth the money 10/18/2002

I love this place. It has many selection to choose from. I love to take my kids there because they can pick and choose whatever they want to eat. For the price, it's definitely worth it. For the food, it's ok. more
