Often the most telling thing about a restaurant is how they respond when you give them feedback about an unpleasant experience. I have enjoyed the food at China Express off of Cascade and Fairburn since this location opened on a regular. It is relatively cheap and consistent food, but not outstanding enough to rate them on ...
Tonight I took UBER there from a consulting engagement and phoned in an order from the car at 7:30. The driver decided he wanted Chinese and also an placed an order over the phone. We arrived 10 minutes later to a packed house. The driver and I chatted and before we knew it nearly an hour elapsed.
Here is what is stunning, I asked what took so long (then an hour from the phone call) and the young cashier was flustered, clueless and said they were busy. I said well can you offer us a soda or some spring rolls for the inconvenience?
We asked to speak to the manager when it was clear he did not have the authority to make that decision when he approached the manager she started fussing in Chinese, but she did not know my driver was retired Navy and understood her when THE MANAGER actually called us "..".
He said why is she cursing at us to the cashier and the cook come out. His best offer was to take the food back and give us a refund. His excuse was that they were really busy and he was the only cook and he was working hard.
I said part of the problem was that in spite of me placing the phone order they did not start our order until we arrived and paid for it. We wanted the food we paid for so we just left.
The measure of disrespect was stunning and it goes to show what they really think of their customers and I hope that folks in the neighborhood take note of what the staff really thinks about us.
