Great way to learn Chicago's history 5/13/2006

This great museum is located right near Lincoln Park Zoo and the lakefront. The Historicla Society has taught me alot about my hometown's history. They have alot of artifacts from American Indians and pioneer settlers. They also have paintings and sculptures from the days of yesteryear. They have a whole section devoted to Honest Abe where they even have a replica of an old room he was in. Many priceless works of art are housed in this museum. more

I love this place 3/24/2006

This is a very interesting concept for a museum that is both educational and fun to visit. To my knowledge, Its still free admission, but I would definitely pay to visit. You can learn lots about Chicago history and view some beautiful exhibits. The museum is not so big, but I find that it makes for a nice break from downtown walks or shopping trips. more

Chgo. Historical Society 3/19/2006

Chicago's history is even more intersting than I thought it would be. They have preserved a huge amount of relics and documents that date back to the 1800's. Alot of Illinois history and many facets of the great Abe Lincoln's life is celebrated here also. The museum is only a couple blocks away from Lincoln Pk. Zoo and offers a free day on Monday to visitors. more

Fabulous museum 9/26/2005

The permanent exhibits never get old. No matter how many times I go, it always seems fresh and interesting. The rotating exhibits are pretty good as well, I remember in particular my husband enjoyed the baseball one a couple of years back. The staff is friendly, too. Good for older kids, but definitely not something that will keep a preschooler entertained. more

History Can Be Modern Again 8/18/2005

Get rid of your ideas of tired, dusty old historical exhibits. The Chicago Historical Society is a dynamic museum with lots of fascinating displays and programs that follow the stories of Chicago lives. This isn't about long dead presidents but about social movements and cultural trends, forces that shaped the city into what it is today. To illustrate this idea, a recent program featured former members of the SDS, a radical student movement of the 1960s and 1970s. This is not your grampa's museum. more

Fantastic portrayals of Chicago's History 8/3/2005

This location has exhibits on Chicago's beginnings, as well as Chicago's sports history and other exhbits that change. I took some kids here and they had a lot of fun. The exhibits about the Chicago settlers and its early years are interactive and fun - play hopscotch like they did, or ride on a super tall bicycle. Keeps you busy and entertained. Worth admission. more

Although this is a museum and a research center of Chicago, we went here for a party! This facility is rented out to hold large gatherings and parties. The space is grand and can hold several hundred people comfortably. Many programs that highlight Chicago history and culture, such as plays, exhibitions and lectures, are held here on a regular basis. more
