I came to Cheryl's a few weeks ago with a group of friends and it was an absolute blast. The food and vibe of the restaurant were a welcome surprise. I had the grilled pork chops and they were the best pork chops i have had in a long, long time. the waiter and the rest of the staff really made us feel welcome from the second we walked in. can't wait to go back more

Flavor you crave. 10/31/2010

I've been to Cheryl's numerous times with family and friends so it's a wonder that I'm just reviewing it now. When I moved to Brooklyn I was blessed with Cheryl's which is literally right next to my apartment. I've been there so many times that the hostesses actually know me by name. It's my go to place for brunch and just recently my boyfriend and I made our friends Alex and Mike walk from 16th and Prospect over to Cheryl's for brunch. We promised it wouldn't disappoint and of course they didn't. We were seated promptly especially for a Saturday Brunch. The waitress came over and took our drink orders (they serve memosas or bloody mary's with brunch) and it didn't take long for the four of us to decide what we wanted to eat. The restaurant itself is small but the decor is unique with light wood planned walls, world music, old videos playing behind the bar and candles on the tables for ambiance at night. Back to brunch, Alex and I got eggs with chicken sausage (yes! chicken sausage yum! They have pork sausage too, it is soul food after all) toast and hash browns. Mike got the French Toast and my boyfriend Danny got the pancakes (which I've uploaded a picture of and oh my god are they delicious!) I should know I ate 1/2 of them. All of the dishes at Cheryls are delectable. I'll of course be going back and because of Yelp, I now know they have a garden so next time I'll feast outside. Cant wait! Oh, and I almost forgot. One of the best things about Cheryl's is, Cheryl actually meets and greets her customers (usually on Sunday's) which brings a great personal touch to the place. more

Good Food, Good Fun, Yumm Yumm 7/27/2009

The food at Cheryl's is delicious! The burger and fries is the classiest burger in town. The red velvet cupcake was yummy too. I went during brunch and was seated immediately not too crowded. The staff was pleasant, Cheryl is always a warm and inviting host. My daughter loved her pancakes and rich ice cream, and I must say it was very good. Not everyone can make pancakes!! The bathroom was clean. The food was a little slow coming out but i rather have my food take it's time cause it's fresh instead of an out of the box mediocre meal any day. Happy Eating! Pros: Quality Food Cons: Wait time for food more

Really friendly 5/26/2009

Went for brunch and it was remarkable! The food was delicious and portions generous. The owner and staff were friendly and the prices were very affordable. I highly recommend for an enjoyable relaxing meal more

Wonderful Service, Wonderful Food 3/27/2009

My family and I had a great time at Cheryl's and the service was wonderful. No rushing us out, quick service, and friendly atmosphere. The staff was very friendly. I ate breakfast, lunch, and dinner at Cheryl's and all the meals were wonderful. By the way, citysearch apparently thinks that ""J-rk"" (pronounce Jurk) in ""J-rk Chicken"" is an inappropiate word so it won't let me use it! Pros: Great Tagine, Great J-rk Chicken Cons: Smallish Space more

""we need your table girls"" 10/12/2008

This was my first time going here and probably my last. Once seated we were given about 2 seconds to look at the menu and decide what we wanted. Food came quickly, which is great when you are hungry, but then the check came immediately. As soon as we finished eating, the owner came by to say ""We need your table girls."" We were practically escorted out as soon as we paid the check. I understand the need to have tables turn over, but this is just rude. more

Great Experience. I love this place 9/19/2008

This place has the coziest atmosphere. It is a cute hidden spot that has great food and drinks. The owner is very friendly. I highly suggest going here.. its one of my fav spots in Prospect Heights.. Try the RumPunch, JerkChicken wings, BBQ Creole Shrimp Pros: great for a date, ambiance, location, food, EVERYTHING Cons: closed on mondays more

Great brunch, cool owner! 9/16/2008

I've only been to Cheryl's a few times, but I've always been pleased with the food and service at Cheryl's. Everybody seems to know everybody and all the little kids love Cheryl. Even the staff are really laidback and easy going and it always makes me feel at ease being there. And of course the food is delicious! Great French Toast and a nice mug of tea sent me right back to bed for my Sunday nap. LOL...Thanks Cheryl for a great space! more

Cozy, neighborhood cafe 6/15/2008

I just wanted to write a review to offset the silly 1 star reviews which were obviously written in haste by someone who'd had a bad experience. I love Cheryl's. It's a great little neighborhood place, and Cheryl is a warm and welcoming presence. I often stop in mornings for a great cup of coffee and a selection of various fresh scones. Cheryl's has a community feel to it, which isn't to say that only locals are treated well. Everyone who walks through the door gets a smile from at least one person behind the counter. Every eatery has its busy moments, and yes, if there is a crowd outside, the establishment might try and turn the table over. Expect that anywhere - but don't take offense. As for bad service...? How's a free round of mimosas from Cheryl herself bad service? Doesn't happen every time I'm in there, but this simple act is evidence that this place aims to please, and wants your return business. Weekdays, you'll find all types wandering in for lunch - writers, families with strollers, stray folk from the Brooklyn Museum and Botanic Garden which are a block away... It's a casual place, with yummy food. I recommend the pancakes and french toast. For lunch, they have great sandwiches at a reasonable price. Come at the right time and no one will hustle you out the door. Pros: Cute decor, great food Cons: sometimes busy more

All But Shoved Out the Door 5/20/2008

I would love to give this place more stars because the food is very good, but they really rush you out. You expect a quick turn over in a diner, but not a seemingly chill restaurant like Cheryl's. I had brunch there for the second time this weekend with my friend, and we were again rushed out the door, this after being told that they did not offer any substitutions for sandwiches (how hard is it to get a different mayo on the side), not getting the water we asked for (thank God for the busboy), and my friend getting a cold plate of eggs (when she asked the waitress if she could get them warmed up, she said ""sure"" to her face, and then added ""I'd love to"" under her breath as she turned away). Oh, and the cupcake I ordered after brunch came to me in a to-go bag. Okay Cheryl, I get the hint. Pros: good food Cons: rude staff and owner more

So sad . . . 11/25/2007

Cheryl's is on our block, and we used to love it. Their pancakes and quiche are both outstanding, but neither is worth the abusive treatment we're afraid we might receive again. The crowning moment - and believe me, there were others - was when we learned on our bill that Cheryl's does not refill, or even top off brunch coffee. As it happened, Cheryl herself took our bill from our table. We asked her about the charge for our second cup - an unusual one for a brunch place, and one she admittedly only added recently. She gave us a sob story about how providing fair trade coffee costs her more, added that our waitress should have told us, and then left to get our change. When she returned, she claimed, unprompted, that the waitress said she did tell us. In other words, she called us liars and dared us to challenge her. This after waiting 1 hour in the cold when told the wait would be 15 minutes, and being seated near a drafty window. An extra $3.00 on a bill is not really a big deal . . . unless of course, it's not expected, no comforts have been offered to offset an otherwise unpleasant experience, and the owner herself has gone out of her way to insult you before you leave. Pros: Food, especially pancakes and quiche. Cons: Miscommunications with staff, cold, insulted by owner, no free coffee toppers. more

Decent food, terrible service 7/8/2007

My partner and I decided to try Cheryl's on a whim this morning. We sat down next to an empty table on one side and a table of four that had just arrived on the other. The restaurant was busy but there wasn't a wait, and it was early for brunch -- 11 a.m. The table of four ordered about two minutes before we did, and we waited so long for our food that they FINISHED their meal before ours was given to us. Meanwhile, the empty table was filled after we sat down, and they got their food before we did as well. Seriously, we ordered at 11:15 and didn't receive our food until 11:50. We would have complained, but we never even had an opportunity to -- the wait staff never checked in on us. After I finished my coffee...and water...and bloody mary before our food arrived, I couldn't even flag someone's attention to refill my coffee until my food was delivered to me. We waited almost an hour for eggs. Inexcusable. And the staff was completely unfriendly (when we inquired about their ""cash only"" policy, which is nowhere on the menu, the waitress was downright surly). Delays and mix-ups happen, but I usually expect (at least!) an apology for lousy service. If we knew brunch was going to take an hour and a half, we would have walked to Park Slope. We'll never go back to Cheryl's. Pros: okay food, atmosphere Cons: slow service, unfriendly staff more

Great food, unusually pleasant experience 1/7/2007

Stopped in by chance en route to the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens on a balm Saturday morning and January and was drawn in by the friendly group sitting outside chatting and the appealingly urban-rustic interior. Had a great breakfast/brunch that began with an excellent, spicy bloody mary. I then enjoyed a tasty hamburger cooked to my specifications--generously sized without being excessive--on a wonderful toasted bun. All this was complimented with delicious grilled onions, good fries, and a surprisingly nice mesclun side salad with zesty dressing. My partner had a yummy omelet with very appealing-looking home fries. The service was very good-humored and attentive, without being in the way. The atmosphere was unusually welcoming, low-key, and casual without ever feeling sloppy. I left feeling uplifted by the friendly atmosphere and quality of the dining experience. More like something you'd experience in a small town establishment than in our increasingly hip Brooklyn hood. Pros: Good food, extremely pleasant down-home atmosphere, fine service more

Outstanding sandwiches 11/3/2006

Had lunch here on a cold, windy day and it was exactly what we needed hearty soups and sandwiches (on amazingly soft bread) and great coffee. Cheryl was out eating her lunch with the rest of us and seemed really pleasant and proud of her place understandably so. Interested to see what dinner is like. more
