DANGEROUS 9/24/2011

Do not use Scuba Luv. Worst experience ever!! After diving we resurfaced 500 yards away from boat - they did not come to pick us up and we swam hard for 1 hour. Exhausted and almost out of air we came across a line they had apparently thrown out for someone else and were able to pull ourselves in. They did not know where we were (although they claimed they did) and we were lucky to make it back. more

The customer service here is a joke.. I had THE WORST experience here ever. Four girlfriends and I planned a day in Catalina to do a snorkling/dolphin adventure through Catalina Divers Supply. We purchased a Groupon for it, and made reservations a month in advance. We got to the hut on the pier at about 1:00 (our reservations were at 1:30). The same guy with curly hair that is mentioned in a below post, whose name is Roger, gave us a very cold greeting when we walked in. They couldn't find our reservation, and then informed us that they were running ""very behind schedule"" and could take us out for a partial trip at 4 pm. We weren't really wanting to wait that long, so we were trying to work with him on another arrangement. He was very, very rude telling us that we had attitudes (when we were just disspointed customers) and that there was nothing he could do. He offered to rent us snorkling gear in exchange for our Groupons. Except the snorkling gear costs $8 an hour to rent and the Groupon was $42. He asked if we had been drinking, we said we each had one drink on the boat, and he preceded to tell us how incredibly stupid we are (after I had told him two of us are certified lifeguards..) and asked us if we had heard of Natalie Holloway - how is that relevant?? When I asked to speak with a manager, he told me that the manager had the day off but he was assistant manager so I was ""lookin at him."" Horrible.. His attitude ruined our whole day, and I would NOT SUGGEST anyone else goes there.\r \r more

Unfriendly Customer Service 9/20/2010

The first thing I noticed was that the guy working here seemed annoyed to have customers. I was a little nervous about trying scuba diving in the first place, so was asking a few questions and trying to decide if it was worth the hundred dollars. The guy was not very helpful at all, so I decided to pass. The next day a local recommended I try Scuba Luv so I decided I would try again and I was very happy with them. They were much friendlier and the instructor was great. Divers Supply might be a good place to go if you are an advanced diver, but for first timers or beginners who are feeling a little nervous, I would recommend Suba Luv. more

Stay away! 9/1/2009

Stay away from this business!!! Customer service?? Forget about it! Yes, I was stupid enough to say on one of many forms that I was “ever diagnosed with high pressure”. I was trying to be honest and just wanted to mention that 10 years ago my pressure was 130/90 and I and my doctor decided to start on low dosage of medication to get it to 110/70, which I’m successfully maintaining now. Good luck trying to explain it to the idiot managing the dive! He will offer you a lecture about medications and affect they might have under water, the subject he’s obviously has no clue about. Let me add that we’re talking about “discover diving” tour (no certification and no any credit towards certification), not some serious dive in the middle of the ocean. We picked that tour, so on my birthday me and my two kids (14 and 16) can have some fun together. Don’t get me wrong, I understand, rules are rules, and I wouldn’t mind to find some compromise. All I was looking for at that point was to have a normal conversation about the options. But the initiative was coming from me, not from the staff. I offered to call my doctor; I asked if my wife (Medical Doctor by the way) could sign a waiver or something. I was ready to fill another waiver to take any responsibility. Nothing was getting thru. And a tone! You wouldn’t believe it, like I was trying to sneak in some heroin thru customs. Then I realized what was behind it. Get this; they said they would refund the price of my ticket, but not my kids’. I was stunned!!! They would let two minors to go without an adult supervision and won’t let 41 years old 5’8’’ 175 lbs healthy and well trained individual to go on this tour. Get the picture? Thanks god I got that tour thru Carnival Cruise, so they actually stepped in and tried to resolve the issue by substituting the dive for a snorkeling tour. Our day was already ruined and my kids didn’t want to go, but we agreed not to let this incident to screw up our all day together and agreed to go anyway. So, as I am filling yet another waiver that idiot comes in (I am using “idiot” as a substitute for a stronger word that he definitely deserves!) and drops another perfect remark: “Don’t screw up the fun for other 26 people on the boat”. Just like that, no please, no sorry for what happened. I was so tired of this and disappointed that all I said was “whatever” (quietly and politely by the way). That was it, “you are not going on MY boat”. Now I got the whole picture, dude is obviously compensating for something. That’s HIS boat! And he’s obviously wanted to let everyone to know that. I was googling later about that business and was really surprised that it exists since 1957, but then I read that it is under new management since 2008, probably not for long. Also, as I read the reviews, I noticed that people are complaining about overcharging and some other ridiculous stuff, just read more before you decide to go with them. There are other companies on Catalina Island; this one is one of the worst. Pros: no pros Cons: just plain horrible more
