I wanted to like it. I really did. Tonight was the first time my wife and I decided to get a bit fancy and go to Carvers. Our expectations were naturally very high considering price. It was a Friday night which is when fine restaurants typically bring their A game. We both ordered Prime Rib, which is usually the safest bet that you'll get a cut that is very tender almost now matter where you dine. Well guess what. My wife's medium rare 8 oz came to her well done and rife with gristle. My 11 oz had the texture of a skillet ham steak. I had to saw at it with my knife. You're not supposed to have to saw at a prime rib, especially when you expect to drop a C note for couple dining. more

Big city dining in Sandy. The perfect steakhouse. Great atmosphere, excellent service and the best prime rib I have had in a long time. We celebrated our 50th birthday with a group of old high school friends. It could not have been a better night. Thanks Carvers! more

I don't normally like steak or seafood but the food I had at Carvers was amazing! It is some of the best food I have ever had!!! The service was excellent very knowledgeable about the menu. I would defiantly recommend Carvers to everyone! You have got to check it out! Pros: service and autmosphere Cons: I don't have any! more

Overpriced for what you get... 2/19/2010

The prices are too high for the quality of the dishes. The waiters I have had are not knowledgeable about the dishes, how they are prepared or anything nor do they have a clue about alcoholic bevarages. Our waiter was worse than what I would find at Denny's. For example - we ordered raspberry bread pudding to-go but yet he still brought them to us prepared and on a plate... we explained again that they were to-go items and sent him back with them. He seriously just dumped them in a to-go box with the sauce all over it and the ice cream still on top... We pointed that out yet again but he still did it a 3rd time. So in the end we got home with soggy gross bread pudding that had melted ice cream all over it.... that was the last impression we had after spending way too much money on an average meal and lousy service. I won't go back. Pros: food is good, not great - good calamari Cons: service!!! for the price, the service needs to be better. more

The saddest part is this place is tired. No tablecloths, beat up old tables and chairs, dirty carpet and a front desk staff that just does not ""get it"". Made a BIG point that I was 5 minutes early. Needs Some Work 11/16/2009

Tried the reopened Carvers in Sandy Fri. night. Parking lot was full so very hopeful. However, upon entering, all hopes dashed. Lack of Host or Hostess at front desk. Surly host when he finally came out of the back. Desperately need more than one person at the front desk on Fri and Sat so people are not standing around clueless. Atmosphere was horrible. Put some tablecloths on the tables or get new ones that don't look like they fell out of the back of a semi going down the freeway. Clean up the place and improve the look. Very dated and dungeon like. Food just OK, nothing that would make me run back for. The only good thing I can think of was we were lucky enough to have a great waiter who used to be the bar manager. I noticed that the tables around us were not so lucky and had poor to non-existent service and poorly trained. PS What happened to the great dark bread they used to serve? Definitely need to add blue cheese salad dressing to their list--afterall it is a steak house!!! Pros: Great Waiter Cons: Atmosphere, Host/Hostess more

Over rated 11/6/2009

We went to Carvers last night for the first time. We were very dissapointed. My husband had prime rib. It was very very thinly sliced and was not cooked properly. I had the filet mignon which was burnt on the outside, not cooked how I had ordered it and was so salty that I couldn't really get the taste of the meat. The servcie was very poor. Our waitress never refilled our water glasses and seemed to be to busy to both with us. Pros: Great atmosphere Cons: Poor service more

Great ambience for sure! But I wasn't too impressed by their prime rib, it lacked flavor.. I didn't like the horseradish sauce, I'd prefer actual horseradish. But everything else was great. Great service, great atmosphere. more

amazing steaks and service 8/24/2009

Brought my girlfriend here for a special evening and we were amazed at the service (Jill is AWESOME) and the fantastic food. Best steak I've ever had, seriously. I've been to Spencers before and I think my steak was as good if not better plus I paid a third as much. Carvers is now one of our favorite places. Pros: fantastic steaks and great service Cons: really can't think of any. more

Wow, watchout! 6/14/2009

We used to love Carvers, however, it has declined (greatly) in both food and service. Our party of 4 spent alot of money for very low quality dinners. Also, the glass of wine one person ordered was delivered with only about 2 tablespoons of wine - which , only after saying something, was the glass returned about 1/3 full-at full price! Don't think we will ever be returning. Sad. Pros: convenient location Cons: too costly for the miserable food more

Expensive and not worth the money. 1/26/2009

I have eaten here so many times since 2000. As a family (including extended) we used to eat here about once a month. It was so good! But we noticed a decline in service and quality. We thought they must have hired a new chef, but the quality never went back where it once was. We stopped eating here a couple of years ago, opting for Flemmings. But we came back to give our once favorite steak place another chance. But that is a mistake we won't make again! The environment is wonderful, but the food is something I would expect at a 2 star restaurant, in taste, that is (in price, that was a 4 star price). I hate to say that, but it is so true! The filet mignon was a bit burned on the outside and way too raw on the inside. I had to send it back and had to eat it way overcooked. Even though I ask for it without pepper, it still had something on it that was way too overpowering for me. I didn't even eat it. Why does it matter where the place is located? Surrounded by car lots or out in BFE, why should that matter?? You are inside the place right??? Easy on the salt 3/14/2003

For months I've been told that you have to eat at Carver's. So I finally went there with my family. The atmosphere was nice. We decided that it was a melting pot of decor. Now when you order filet mignon, you except that the meat wouldn't be over seasoned. When I got it I could taste more salt than steak. Next time I get a craving for steak I will try one of the other steakeries in the city. Pros: bread, salad, atmosphere Cons: expensive, poor service, salty steak more

Hidden, but worth the drive 7/30/2002

If you don't mind eating surrounded by car lots, the food here is a good as anywhere and the price is reasonable. The lamb chops are really good. I've eaten here several times, and never had a bad meal. more
