I'm a sucker for the name "café" in a restaurant! Don't think I've ever had bad luck when I follow up on that. Our friends hadn't been to this on... more

Terrible Service Ruined Experience 10/3/2010

Sunday brunch here was stressful and terrible because of awful service. Coffee took 10 minutes to come after being order, another 10 minutes before the waitress took our order. After waiting at least another 30 minutes, we asked about the status of our order; the waitress appeared unconcerned and said it probably wouldn't be too long. Another 10 minutes, and several people that came in after us had their food. We asked to speak to the manager, he appeared angry and rude, interrupting me several times while I was talking. He did comp our food, but that didn't eliminate the terrible experience. Avoid at all costs! more

My absolute favorite 10/19/2009

This is my favorite place to go on a date; ) Its romantic, laid back, great background music, great location, not too loud. I love Carroll Street as well. It's great sitting outside in the spring, or sipping coffee inside in the winter: ) It's also a great place for dinner/brunch! Pros: ambiance more

Good choice 5/18/2009

This is an eclectic restuarant with a good atmosphere and vibe. The food is good and so is the service. I would recommend it for any time of the day. Pros: Ecletic, and good food Cons: Parking and sketchy neighborhood more

Best for Visitors 12/18/2008

I have been to Carol Street many times and have recommended it to friends... BUT, if you go in after they've been cleaning, the smell of industrial cleaner can ruin your whole meal. I went on a Sunday morning and 3 out of 4 of us said that the smell was overwhelming. Waitress didn't seem to mind it and laughed it off when we mentioned it. The smell (like a strong pine cleaner or something) effected the taste of my food and I could even ""taste"" the smell after I left. This is not the first time I'd smelled it or mentioned it, either. Pros: good food, good portions, unique atmosphere Cons: the smell of cleaning fluid permeates the dining room more

Who cut the cheese? 9/7/2008

This is my first ever review. Service was ok-not bad. The entre came out before appetizers. Decor/atmosphere was status quo for this type of sidewalk cafe in Atlanta-not overdone;comfortable. We ordered the cheese plate as one of our appetizers. BE CAREFUL...Try a very small bite first unless you recognize the cheese. One of the 4 offerings has an EXTREMELY offensive odor and flavor kinda like what your dog likes to roll in. Our entire party was in agreement that it might be spoiled so I asked to see the chef. That didn't happen. Server assured us that ""lots of people really like it"". WARNING: It's the cheese with the one thin line of green in it - TAKE IT SLOWLY! Not a great experience at Carroll Street. Crab cake appetizers were delightful, tho. Pros: certain food was tasty Cons: lacked hospitality more

My new Favorite Breakfast 5/31/2008

Carroll Street Cafe was a little tough to find with some detours, but well worth the effort. My wife and I often search out the 'Best of' breakfast section but found Carroll Street Cafe on another site, having visited all of the 'City Search' top 10's, and bot am I glad we did. CSC is located in Cabbage Town (Fourth Ward) area. It is in a row of eclectic and historic buildings. You can sit out side or in. Inside is full of character. A mix of old and new. It is the kind of place that would fit right into Austin Texas keeping the motto 'Keep Austin Weired' first in it's mind. We got seated on the back, which in the evening turns into a full service bar. Sat at the bench with nice cozy pillows. Had great coffee and a wonderful breakfast. The wife had a Turkey Croissant Brunch sandwich with wonderful grilled potatoes and I had a great Chili Beans and eggs with a Jalapino and cheddar grits. This came with pita chips and a great guacamole. It sounds a little strange, but for those that like Ria's Blue Bird, this will be a great treat as well. The portions are very big, the quality is outstanding, the originality is what you expect from places like this. I am so looking forward to going back. Pros: Ambience, Food Originality, Food Quality Cons: Parking more

Won't be back here for a long, long time... 2/26/2007

Bad experience from start to finish... more

Love the space. Could use more on the menu. 2/3/2007

I used to have brunch here every weekend, but got sick of having to flag down my server to leave the place, so quit going. Met friends for brunch recently and though attentiveness had increased, I hated my meal -- and those that my buddies offered me instead. Dinner is better and the ambience is cool. Parking is weird but fun, we thought we'd get booted because a tow truck couldn't fit down the street. Great area, though, lots of offerings and within walking distance of plenty of fun people. Pros: Naturally light space, ambience Cons: brunch not so good more

Great local place 11/19/2006

CSC is a great find in Cabbagetown. It's the perfect setting for a low-key night in a relaxed atmosphere. The service was great - so friendly! The place was dimly lit, loaded with great artwork and had mostly full tables without being overcrowded. Pros: Good atmosphere Cons: No french fries - could be a signature item! more

Yummy Brunch 11/14/2006

The very vision of quant and charming. Bring your blue mohawk and drink champagne on sundays. Your dog is welcome too. Lovely place. Service is OK, like all cafes ran by sceensters and stranglings but besides that this place is marvelous. Pros: Romantic and clever ambiance, just stay away if you are too drab please!!! Cons: None. more

Horrible Service 10/21/2006

Don't ever go there if you don't have a huge chunk of time to waste. The servers are too busy pretending that they're in the West Village to bother with things like customers. Food is okay, but dinner is way overpriced. They must charge extra for all that attitude. Pros: Funky neighborhood, decor Cons: Service more

One of the best, most unknown places in Atlanta 2/9/2006

Great, unique food and Amazing atmosphere. Carroll Street Cafe is almost never crowded, you hardly ever have to wait. Has amazing crab cakes and choclate truffle cake. I would recommend getting very detailed directions, the road it is off of- the road sign is very hard to see and it is at a curve. Overall my favorite place to eat when I'm not quite sure what I want. You can always get something inexpensive but at the same time you can go and get something expensive and it will always be great. Recommendations- Turkey Club, BLT (amazing with feta cheese and pesto), Crab Cakes, Salmon, Filet Mignon, Chocolate Truffle Cake. Pros: Good Parking, Great Desserts, Great Tapas Cons: Difficult to Find more

my favorite spot 2/4/2006

seriously, it's the best spot in town. feels like you closed your eyes and found yourself on a side street in france. great music, great food, great wine, great art...and there is this girl with blonde dreadlocks that, if you're lucky, might be your server. Might I add, she just might be the most beautiful girl in the world. That's what you'll get at Carroll Street. Try the mussells, try the ""more-mosa"" on a sunday morning, try the fish special any night of the week..hands down the best restaurant in Atlanta. more

Great food and atmosphere!!! 11/7/2005

We LOVE Carroll Street Cafe. We think the food is GREAT and the atmosphere delightful. We've been for Brunch and Dinner and totally enjoyed both!!! We highly recommend it. more

Slow and Burnt 10/31/2005

I love Cabbagetown, and I used to love Carroll Street Cafe. That changed this past Sunday. The trouble started when we sat down. We were given water that was warm, as in it seemed like it had been sitting on a stove. Our drink order was taken. 15 minutes later while sipping my warm oj, i asked if we could order, she said yes and walked away. 5 mintues later, she finally took our order. When the food arrived, the potatoes were so burnt, half of them were inedible. Some literally looked like bricks of charcoal. My $10 plate of pancakes was a little cold. I guess it had to sit on the counter and wait for the potatoes to burn. Then, I had to go to the counter and ask to pay. I'm sorry to say I will not be returning to a place I once considered wonderful. Pros: location, atmosphere Cons: bad service, burnt potatoes, cold food more

A regular haunt 2/14/2003

This is a great place for Sunday brunch. Sitting on the sidewalk on a sunny day, sipping that delicious coffee, eating french toast with fruit mingling with maple syrup, yum yum. Check out their specials. Recently I had salmon omelet. For dinner I had a delicious mussel dish. The mussels were plump and fresh in a wonderful sauce. Great addition to the neighborhood. Funky interior with lots of wood and local art decorating the walls, even in the bathroom. Pros: Food, atmosphere Cons: parking more

great atmosphere 1/10/2003

Loved the interior, very quaint. Waitstaff help and the food very good. Diverse menu. Save room for cake! Went around 9pm good crowd, but not packed. Pros: easy park, atmosphere, menu more
