It's like stepping into another country for a hour! 8/9/2007

We were passing through Lake Placid after a wonderfull hike on Mt. Vanhougenberg and decided to grab a quick bite. We saw this sign for the Carribean Cowboy and it looked like a small bar. We thought we would be just grabing some fast bar food and heading home. When we stepped in and saw the menu it was clear this was much more than a bar. The atmosphere and the decorations made you feel like you had just landed on a Carribean island, and if I were to step outside there would suddenly be an ocean and sand just out the door. We were the first table of the night and once they began to cook you were consumed with amazingly sweet smells. I had the J erk Chicken and it was so... tastey. It was covered in a sweet and spicy BBQ sauce, and topped with manga mojo. My husband had some sort of steak dish but he ate it so... quickly I honestly can't tell you what it was but it must have been good because it was gone in a flash and then he finished mine! We finished with a desert which was just a tasty as dinner. This is my new favorite restraunt. I can't wait to return and try a new dish. I am thinking the seafood qasadillas, they have crawfish and shrimp, mmmmm.... Pros: Ambience. Food tast and presentation. Cons: Can't think of any. more

Delicious--try a weeknight... 10/2/2006

I visited Lake Placid on two different weekends this month, and tried to get a table (sans wait) at Caribbean Cowboy three times (Fri--no; Sat--no). Third time, on a Sunday night, was a charm. I can see why this place usually has a line. The vibe is crunchy and relaxed (a less uptight Moosewood?) and the food is terrific. I had a vegetarian bean and corn enchilada and my friend had a special veggie quesadilla with mango--an extremely large amount of food, reasonably priced, and delicious. We shared a warm bourbon brownie with ice cream for dessert--heavenly. I've tried other mex places in town (Luna Loca, Desperadoes) and they don't even come close. Pros: great creative food; reasonable prices; low key atmosphere; professional, friendly service; family friendly Cons: weekend nights have a heft wait; tight parking more
