Worst experience ever!!!!! Bought a 2006 VW Passat 2 years ago....been in the shop every 3 months up to know. I am not car savvy so I did what I could to have it checked out. 500 dollars every trip to the shop. Thermostat, sensors, etc....Sun roof leaked so bad mold is growing in back seat. They do just enough to get check engine light off. The rest is a cat and mouse game to find the hidden problems.....Don't do it to your wallet... more

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE... 4/29/2011

BUYER BEWARE!! Their customer service is the WORST! I recently purchased a vehicle there. Test- drove and inspected the car and it was impeccable. Came the next day to pick up and sign papers, and noticed that the car had a DEEP scratch where some paint had chipped off. We told our salesperson Dammy Adekola , about it, and he said not to worry, he would take care of it. He said he would ask for a sales manager for a signed paper saying that they would fix it since it wasn't there when we test drove the vehicle and it was mostly likely caused by the negligence of one of their employees when the vehicle was moved off the sales lot. We trusted him and signed the papers. Dammy then had ""to go"" as his shift was over, but he said he had talked to Loquetta Davis, the sales manager, and she would take care of us. She then came over to where the vehicle was, my husband showed her the scratch and she said ""wow"" that's pretty deep"". She then said to my husband ""You know you are buying a USED car, right?"". He said of course, but the damage wasn't there when we first saw the vehicle. She then handed over a paper that read ""Please address the scratches on the rear side of the vehicle"" signed with her signature. and told us we had 30 days to bring the car back to get it fixed. I brought it back almost two weeks after, waited for hours, and all they did was put what looked like silver nail polish over the scratch/chipped area. Apparently, that is how they ""fixed"" it. The guy in charge of the body shop was super nice, but he said he couldn't do any more for me since Ms. Davis wrote the word ""scratch"" on the paper and that is how they ""address scratches"" according to their policy. He himself thought she chose the wrong choice of wording and it worded differently, he could have done something else . When I spoke again to Ms. Davis she said they couldn't do any more, because it ""would affect the value of the vehicle"" and it would be ""too costly for them to fix"". She kept giving me the run around making me wait for different people to see what they could do about it. After speaking to each one, I came up with the conclusion that in the end, she had the last word and she wasn't about to put her precious job in jeapardy by costing the company a few hundred dollars, to fix a ""scratch"". Our saleperson Dammy, never bothered to come see me or answer his phone, even though he knew I was there. When I asked to see him, they told me he just ""drove off"" and wasn't available. So much for ""great customer service"". I am so dissapointed with Carmax. This is the second vehicle I buy from them, but never ever will I buy from them again or refer them to anybody. Ever. Don't waste your time or money there or any other Carmax. It's not worth the hassle or stress. Don't fall for the 125 point inspection...its not true. Ms. Davis admittedly told us they do ""repaint"" vehicles if necessary to make them look ""newer"" and increase their ""value"". Plus, they don't use CARFAX, but their own internet vehicle history report which is a joke.... Lesson learned. more

terrible service after I was sold a lemon 4/24/2011

Salesperson was very nice, and getting the car to begin with was actually quite painless. Got the MaxCare warranty thinking that was the best idea at the time-- a year later, I had some transmission difficulty, so took the car in. I had the clutch replaced and entire transmission rebuilt over the course of three weeks, after parts were mailed in, the diagnosis was incorrect several times, and including multiple trips to attempt picking it up and several rental cars. Customer service was horrifying, and when I got the car back, they hadn't done the inspection (now outdated, as I'd left the car there close to a month and asked to have the inspection done), so rather than wait longer, took it to get the now-expired inspection done elsewhere, only to have the car die at the othergarage. Back to Carmax where they took the car for ANOTHER week to fix the fuel-injection system, THEN tried to charge me for a bunch of labor that should have been covered under the extended warranty. After two more weeks of discussions and car issues, I left furious and broke, with what was clearly a lemon. I've since done multiple repairs on the car, paying the higher deductible at a different shop. Oh, and I was upside-down on the car after a year. Miserable. All the way around. Stay far, far away. more

Horrible Repair Service - All Points Engine Check Not Done 7/29/2010

I had an OK experience with the purchase of the car, but I was extremely disappointed with the Service Department. Pros: good deal on a car if you have your mechanic check it first Cons: Waranty is good but don't use the CarMax Service Dept. more

Car Max Auto Superstore is more like going to a car auction 8/12/2009

To Julia P, wait till you actually buy the car from them and you may change your mind. I will not advise anyone to use Carmax, even though they have lots of different cars and lot of options to choose from. I bought a Nissan Murano for my wife in 02/2007 and the car was in the shop from 04/2007 till 07/2007. The warranty paid for it after so many phone calls but refused to pay for my car rental used for the 3 months, whichh i ended up paying for, from my pocket. \r I will agree with Marcus M on the 125 point check. I basically will consider going to Carmax like going to a car auction ( you never know what you will get),so Caveat emptor i will say. more

Car Max Auto Superstore is Awful. 7/14/2009

Roommate bought a Saab from CarMax, Houston, TX six months ago. Has been in the repair shop twice since then. Brake rotors are completely deteriorated, which isn't covered on the "MaxCare" warranty (read the fine print). When asked what their standards were for their 125-point inspection, they said they have minimum standards when inspecting brakes: new brake pads are 12 inches, they require 4 inches of pad to pass their inspection. This is a sham and basically will get your car past the initial return phase and then lead to a sequence of expensive repairs. Also, their service department will tell you that they do not diagnose problems. You basically have to already know what's wrong with your vehicle before you take it in. Then they probably won't fix it correctly. I feel horrible for anyone who buys from them - it's clearly a sham. more

Great customer service, very nice atmosphere, quality used cars 3/11/2008

This was our second purchase from this CarMax lot. Five years ago we bought a van with no glitches during the buying process, so we vowed to return to CarMax for our next purchase. Pros: Positive atmosphere, huge inventory, online shopping, excellent service, no arguing with salespeople Cons: NO haggling with the price of the car...it is what it is! more

Excellent service 7/8/2005

When my husband and I were shopping for cars we visited CarMax, and were not disappointed at all with the service. Unlike some dealerships where the salesmen flock together and you feel like a piece of meat, the salesmen at CarMax were gentlemen. They didn't flock together, and our personal salesmen actually listened to us, rather than telling us what he thought we needed! Though they did not end up having the vehicle we were in search of at the time, we were very pleased with their service, and will definitely return to them in the future. They come highly recommended. more
