Not really for the DIY guy, more geared to the contractor 12/5/2011

I would like to recommend this business, as I have deep convictions about patronizing local shops over national chains. However it is clear that this company does not value my business. I opted to buy my materials for the construction of a chicken coop/run for my back yard. The project rang up about $750 in materials. I paid a bit more for these materials than I would have at a Lowes, but felt it was the responsible thing to do. If the price difference weren't enough, there were two points that made me really regret this decision. First, I entered the store at sometime before 4:00 pm and presented a list of things I needed and asked for help in finding them. The clerk informed me that I had waited until the last minute, that they closed at 4. Begrudgingly he helped me collect the items I needed. Second, when the project was finished I returned two sheets of plywood and several items of hardware. I was charged a 15% restocking fee as I was 5 days past the 14 day refund deadline. I told the clerk that I want to do business locally, but nonsense like this makes it very difficult to do so. I am not ready to start shopping at Lowes or Home Depot, but I will find a different local supplier for my next project. This company must prefer to do business with big contractors rather than local DIY customers. more

  • Capitol City Lumber Company was incorporated in 1945, but due to World War II was not started until April 1, 1947.After World War II, our founder, James Anglin Nicholson started the company with one empty building, a two ton truck and a single load of plywood. During those days materials where hard to find, he established his place in the community by offering quality building materials at a fair price.Although the company has grown, we strive every day to live up to his original mission of Quality, Service, and Dependablity.
