Beyond Belief! 10/20/2011

Want a heaping helping of Rudeness and Arrogance by a manager along with a mouthy and drink ignorant red-headed barmaid, then hurry over to CANDELARI'S Pizzeria on Washington St. You won't be disappointed!! To make matters worse add in an Arrogant Owner who does not respond to a complaint and it makes for a recipe for a miserable meal!! Since when do neighborhood businesses not treat local customers from Rice Military with respect and courtesy; especially SENIOR CITIZENS???? Shame on you Mike May!!! Being Italian, I would have thought that you were taught better!! PS: Alejandro is great! Bob & Mara Canulla more

Thanks for the help Alejandro 7/20/2011

Alejandro, the on duty manager, was very friendly and gave us great customer service when we had our last visit. We also got to sample some desert as it was our 1st visit and it was fantastic. I recommend this place to anyone looking for a new and outstanding pizza place to visit. more

Nice food and facilities. 7/20/2011

Excellent Italian food and nice bathrooms are two nice things every restaurant should have. These guys have both. more

$2 Shiners = Win 7/14/2011

Where can you go and get $2 Shiners aside from here on happy hour; not many. $2 buys a candy bar in this day and age that use to cost 50 cents 15 years back. It's nice that there are still a few good deals to be found and Candelari's Pizzeria has one of them. more

Love the buffet! 7/14/2011

Visited there location on business and was very happy with the buffet. It was an enjoyable way to spend a lunch hour. more

Always very pleased with there buffet. 7/6/2011

I like their lunch buffet and have always been impressed by there food. I would recommend them highly. more

Poor customer service 10/14/2010

I've yet to get a response from a manager, so I am posting this email that I sent to him or her. I would give the place 2 stars, but since I've gotten no response, it's a one star. more

Too much hype, Subpar Pizza 5/16/2010

We visited Candelari?s on Washington Ave. on 05/16/10 around 5:45pm. The restaurant had 6-8 tables occupied in the dining room and a few more outside. After selecting to be seated inside we were shown to a table in the section that held most of the guest. The waitress was slow in getting to the table and explained that she had three other tables and was ?really busy.? We selected a bottle of Cliff Lede Cabernet Sauvignon (2008) which was offered at a reasonable price ($32). Pros: Location, Wine Cons: Pizza, Price, Service more

Good alternative 10/16/2009

This is a great alternative to your normal pizza joint. The buffet is a bit expensive, but for the quality of food it's worth it. I usually go about once a month or so on Friday's from work. Pros: Quality Buffet Cons: Parking, Slow bringing on pizza's sometimes more

We had a group of 4 at Candelari's last night. We showed up at 8pm and were seated outside on the patio. I went to the bar to order a glass of wine (by the way, they changed their wine list and prices- all more expensive by about $2/glass). I returned to the table and after 20 minutes, our waiter still had not returned with our water. more

We used to go to the Wash Ave location pretty often for lunch and/or dinner and the food was decent but not remotely close to any well known Chicago deep dish pizza places in Illinois. But, its about close as you're going to get in Houston. NOW - its just terrible all around. I'm sorry, but you cant enjoy a meal EVER if the service has upset you. As a business owner, I can say that whoever the manager and cook was on the evening of August 25, 2009 (Tues) just needs to be fired. Obviously, there is an issue here after reading the other reviews. We waited an HOUR (no joke) and there were maybe 4 tables seated in the whole restaurant. Our waiter could sense our frustration and informed us that our pizza was burned and it would be about another ten minutes. We opted to WALK OUT and go for Wendy's instead of probably waiting another 10-15 minutes to eat undercooked or burnt pizza and be po'd all night. Did the manager get off his cell phone and apologize that we sat there for an hour and missed our movie? Nope, but he ""graciously"" comped my ice tea and a bowl of caesar salad. This was strike 2 in the last 2 weeks...the other time the valet demanded I park my car (high end benz) on some crushed rocks where it was sure to be either dinged or backed into by one of the huge trucks with hitches cramped into tiny spaces. So, it was kinda take it or leave it - so we left it. I'm easy going but c'mon - 2 walk outs??? This is the only place in my life I ever walked out - and TWO times. Don't waste your time, go to stars pizza down the street, raias down the street (EXCELLENT SERVICE AND PARKING), or order in from papa johns for that matter. Sad, bc this place used to be good to grab some vino and relax when it first opened. I'll never go back. Places with service like this make you want to stop going out to eat. Our waiter was nice and kept the ice-t flowing though. I felt bad that the cook and manager cost him a tip. Pros: food used to be decent Cons: need to fire night manager, valet has attitude, LONG wait more

TERRIBLE service, meh food 8/2/2009

When we arrived at Candelari's at 8 on a Saturday night, it was moderately busy with a few small tables open and no one waiting. We were seated pretty quickly but then we sat...and sat...and sat...for 20 minutes until we flagged down the hostess (three times) and finally the manager to point out that we hadn't had our drinks orders taken let alone even seen our waitress. Pros: Close to I-10, other restaurants and bars Cons: Slow and indifferent service, blah food, overpriced more

Bad service, good food (even if it is not what we ordered) 6/26/2009

We went to Candelari's last night intending to have pizza there. Parking was a nightmare (I don't like to valet park). When we went in, it was so loud and extremely hot in there we then decided to get it to go instead. We stood in line to order our pizza, but then were very confused as to the whole process (you stand in line to order and get your own drinks, but there are waiters everywhere, makes no sense). The girl taking our order was VERY confused about everything and did not give us either an order # or take our name. Finally one nice waiter noticed our confusion since we were standing around waiting on our pizza (there is no place to wait for to go orders, the bar was full with some sort of meeting). He went and checked on it for us and at least gave us an update. When our pizza was finally done and we got it home, both pizzas in our order were wrong (close, but both missing toppings that we ordered and paid for). Overall, the food was good but not worth the hassle. Pros: Great sausage, Good pizza Cons: Awful service, confusing ordering, really loud and hot insid more

Good food, bad hybrid service 5/11/2009

This place has good food, but the hybrid service puts a damper on the whole experience. They actually have to have signs explaining the concept. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, but that would make too much sense. Essentially, they created another step in the ordering and paying process which results in a longer wait time for your food. Too bad - used to be a favorite of mine. Pros: Good pizza Cons: Hybrid service does not make sense more

Best Pizza in the loop 4/18/2009

If you're looking for NY style thin crusted pizza, then Candelari's is the place for you. I've only use their delivery service which is always prompt, and they've always gotten my order correct. Pros: thin crust pizza more

Relax & Enjoy the happy hour and good food 4/18/2009

Anyone who has complained about Candelari's customer service is too uptight. This spot is great for happy hour. You can get a full (more than an 8oz pour) glass of wine for only $3 and the happy hour pizza's are cheap and yummy. It's a place to relax and enjoy the company your with. They hybrid service update is an interesting move for them and I'm curious if they will keep it up. I prefer the old system because I like being left alone. On the otherhand, it is nice to have someone refilling your water glass and bringing you another glass of wine. I go about once a week straight after work and enjoy myself everytime. Pros: happy hour, great pizza Cons: metal smelling tables more

Was Great not anymore 4/17/2009

I just went last night. New hybrid service? Who thinks of this stuff. The absence of service is why we went to begin with. No one bothered you. We went because we could sit there for a while after we ate and have drinks with out a the wait staff trying to rush you out. Now you order at the counter with no number. Who knows how they know where to bring the pizza. Ours got all mixed up and went the wrong table. We waited for our pizza for an hour until they figured it out. Also the pizza is more expensive now.(it was4.99$ now it's 7$) Last but not least the red pepper made us all sick. We had a big group with different pizzas and the pepper was the only thing we all had in common. Needless to say its a sad day we used to come here all the time probably once a week with big groups 10-12 people. BEWARE OF THE PEPPER!!!!;) Pros: It was the best place in town for cheap pizza Cons: Diar rhea more

Great weekend breakfast spot 12/17/2008

I drove by Candelari's the other day and saw they were now serving breakfast on the weekends. Since its not far from where I live, I decided to try it. The breakfast menu is really diverse. They serve everything from traditional breakfast to breakfast pizzas. It is nice to have a new breakfast place so close to home and I would recommend trying it out. I think it is served Saturdays and Sundays from 8-10. Pros: New full service breakfast more
