Good Food at a good price 8/10/2009

Nice assortment of dishes. Fresh taste and acceptable service. I was pleased with my meal and would definitely go back. Pros: Nice assortment of veggie/fake meat entrees and dishes Cons: fake shrimp had no taste more

Food is alright, but everything else about experience is TERRIBLE 11/15/2008

This place has no management, let alone bad management.\r I am disgusted every time I eat there by dirty in the small restaurant, which would otherwise me fine. \r I've sat there and gotten water and food quickly at times and had to wait ages at other times.\r Every time I order they change something. First the deliver a menu which says free delivery and then charge. When I asked about it, they said the menu had changed.\r The next time I ordered delivery, the item's ingredient's differed and again they said the menu had changed. Tonight they wouldn't value a coupon they delivered to my front door, so I just decided to pick up. They were rude on the phone and hung up on us. When we arrived and asked to speak to a manager they said there wasn't one in the restaurant. Then we got home and part of our order was missing. When we called, they said that they no longer include those items in the dinner special (even though the price is the same and the portions are smaller). Again - guess what? they said they have a new menu!!\r I will NOT be going back again. Very disappointing because the food can be good at times, but the service and experience for both eat in, and pick up is AWFUL. Pros: variety of veggie options Cons: bad service, rude staff, barely any english, no management, high prices, constantly changing menu more

Good food, good price. 9/23/2008

A couple of friends and I were walking by this place when we decided to try it and were pleasantly surprised. The food is good and gives enough to be filling. I got from the dinner menu, Spicy Mint Leaves. It came out quickly and was cooked quite well. The servers came by frequently and filled our waters and took the the dishes away promptly. more

the best vegan in town 4/27/2008

My girlfriend and I are both from New York and he is a chef for one of the top restaurant groups in the country. It was his first dinner our in Los Angeles and I was very impressed .The food was cooked perfectly and the blend of the ingredients in both dishes were done just right. Our entrees came out really quickly, our waiter was super friendly. My boyfriend enjoyed everything and is excited to return, as am I. We both highly recommended it to all of our friends. more

Disappointing. 1/26/2008

I ate here for lunch today and was very disappointed with my experience. The food was mediocre at best and the service was worse. I ordered a vegetable wrap. When I asked the waitress what it had in it, she pointed to the menu where it said, all wraps served with alfalfa sprouts, tomato, romaine lettuce, salsa, and vegenaise. I was confused because the other wraps (all priced the same at $6.95) contained those items plus a protein. So I asked if I could add avocado (an extra $1) and ordered grilled tofu added as well. Then the waitress came back and said that the chef had made a mistake and put in grilled potato instead, but that I would get the grilled tofu on the side. When my wrap came, it was stuffed with lettuce, did not have any sprouts or salsa in it and had very little avocado and tomato. I ate half of it, but when my grilled tofu still had not arrived, I complained that the wrap didn't contain what was listed in the menu and that the tofu was never served either. The waitress went away and then came back and told me that the chef said she did put in the alfalfa sprouts and salsa! As if I was lying! I opened up the wrap and showed her that those ingredients were not in there. Finally, she took my plate back and returned several minutes later with what looked like the exact same thing. I was not pleased. I opened up the wrap again to show her that it still did not have alfalfa sprouts or salsa in it and then noticed about a teaspoon of sprouts hidden under the lettuce leaves. I asked about the salsa and she pointed to the tomatoes that were chopped small. Apparently if you cut the tomatoes smaller, that makes them salsa. To add insult to injury, the waitress also informed us that we were charged extra for the added potato-- even though I hadn't even ordered it! I won't eat there again. Pros: clean, not crowded Cons: mediocre food, parking limited, poor service more

You will want to eat everything! 10/9/2007

..including the waitstaff, who yell cheerfully at you as soon as you walk in the door.\r Unfortuantely, they are not on the all-vegan menu.\r \r Such a relief to sit down and be able to eat anything without doing the usual 5x over that vegans must do, although purists beware, I think it's been mentioned that some items contain something Not Quite Vegan, maybe the chicken or... something? I'm sure it's mentioned in an earlier reivew. But the pad thai is safe, and so is the spicy eggplant with tofu.\r \r Dinner comes with soup and a spring roll.\r \r The only con is the terrible, TERRIBLE music they always have on, but the food gets there so fast you barely have time to notice the atmosphere. And it's usually packed.\r \r Delivery is a good way to avoid both problems. \r Pros: fast cheap delicious vegan eats, friendly service more

Fantastic food, vegan or not! 6/5/2007

I stumbled on to Cal Vegan after it replaced one of my favorite Thai resturants (Tem Tem House) Now I eat Cal Vegan two or three times a month. Even my wife, who usually hates anything ""vegan,"" likes it. Most of the dishes are of Thai origin, and their red curry seitan is to die for (tastes the same as Tem Tem did.) Staff is very friendly, service is fast, and delivery is very fast. Food quality is very good. Favorite dishes: Larb, silver noodle salad, pad thai, orange chicken, red curry seitan, and for the kids, chicken nuggets or ""cowboy"". I love taking friends visiting from out of town- most of them freak out when they see it's ""vegan"" or ""vegetarian"". None so far have been disappointed. Pros: Excellent flavors, good prices, fast service and delivery, Cons: Small, so tables can fill up quickly on weekend nights. more

Best of the thai inspired vegan restaurants 2/13/2007

The service here is extremely attentive and friendly. I have dined here on many occasions and my boyfriend loves all their soy products! Overall, the food is tasty. My main complaint is that the food seems to be just thrown together and not really cooked when you're there. Sometimes the food has been a little cold like it had been sitting around waiting for somebody to order it. What you get though is very good and their dinner specials are worth every penny. Pros: good options, good service Cons: food taken out a little too quickly sometimes more

Yummy! 1/4/2007

I'm not a vegan or a vegetarian, but I love this place! I drive over the hill just to eat their ""chicken' fingers. The place has an Asian influence, so many of the dishes come with a sweet and sour sauce or are prepared in tempura batter. The environment is interesting. It's mainly composed of booths with some cool light fixtures...nothing too extraordinary. The only negative is the service. They're very nice, but can forget orders or be very slow. Pros: Food, Price Cons: Service more

Best pad thai in L.A. 10/21/2006

I am not a vegetarian (let alone a vegan) but love weekend brunches at this spot. It is one of the first restaurants I tried after moving to L.A. and still remains one of my favorites 2 years later. The food is wonderfully tasty, the atmosphere cosy, and they have some of the best dishes around town! Definitely recommended. Pros: Great food more
