Best

Good food but free parking can be a problem but there usually is pay parking.

Worst

Cafe Pierpont's chicken enchiladas were the worst I've ever had. They were filled with dark meat chicken that tasted like it came out of a can and even had a bit of a fishy taste...

CLOSED DOWN 10/3/2007

Cafe Pierpont WAS amazing but, unfortunantly they are no longer open. I went there 2 weeks ago and they have shut their doors. Just an FYI. more

Great fun, friendly staff. 2/6/2007

I've been to Cafe Pierpont on several occasions and have not been disappointed. I love the Baja Combo. And all the different salsas are good too. Last time there was with a group and the staff was attentive, friendly and checked back often. I'll go back. Pros: Fun and lively more

Trendy, not real Mexican 9/7/2006

The atmosphere is great and the kitchen looks like they know what they are doing. But when it's time for Mexican food I do not want a 20-something year old Caucasian saying ""Hi, my name is ----- and I'm going to take care of you!"" What is this- another chain restaurant?!? Pros: Atmosphere, Salsas, warm chips Cons: No authenticity, Pricey food and drinks more

disappointed 4/28/2006

While I usually like the ambience. I feel the food and sevice is going down hill. I thought the margarita was very small and the food so--so. I was most dissapointed that the gastronomy gift card I was given by my son was not honored. They have changed a couple of months ago and was told -- sorry on the gift card! Tooo many other choices out there. Have a great summer! more

Hugest Awesome Burrito Ever 3/8/2006

Just go for the Huge Burrito. It's amazing, about the size of a loaf of bread. You don't believe me, and won't believe it when your burrito comes to your table. If you eat the whole thing, you get a free one the next time. Good salsa bar too. Definitely Gringo Mexican--not authentic, but good for a fix if you like americanized mexican food. Guacamole was gross, even though fresh. Flautas are good grub. Pros: Huge Burrito, Salsa Bar, Big Burrito Cons: No reservations, Wait stinks, Guacamole more

Once Wonderful 12/30/2005

This once was a wonderful place to eat. The last three dinners have eaten here been awful. The last one, I could not eat. I will not return to Cafe Pierpont. My wife and I have inquired twice as to what changed. No response from Gastronomy public relations. There are many great places to eat in Salt Lake. This is no longer one of them. Pros: Fun Place, Salsa bar Cons: Food more

Drink Prices!! 9/22/2005

Food was okay... great for families. But do not buy a soda at 2.69 a drink!!! more

Horrible chicken enchiladas 9/17/2004

Cafe Pierpont's chicken enchiladas were the worst I've ever had. They were filled with dark meat chicken that tasted like it came out of a can and even had a bit of a fishy taste. For a second I questioned whether it was chicken at all or really tuna. Pros: Good Margaritas, Cheap Margaritas, Not very crowded Cons: , Poor service more

pricey mexican 10/23/2003

came here for lunch on my first day in slc. sat on the outdoor patio and enjoyed the nice weather. i think the day i went there was a staff shortage. several people came by to tell us that the server was coming and eventually the cook came to wait on us. he was friendly, but seemed nervous since he doesn't normally wait on tables. the nacho and salsa was good, both mild and spicy. the guacamole, that we requested xtra spicy, came out with a whole jalapeno not chopped up and it was not spicy at all. that was kinda disappointing. got the 2 taco combo to share and it was plenty food for two. the watermelon margaritas we ordered were ok but not great. overall, this was an ok choice, but it lacks the usual festive mexican atmosphere and is pricey in comparison to most other mexican restaurants. Pros: outdoor seating Cons: $$ for mexican, lacks festivity more

Don't sit outside 9/5/2003

Food is consistent - I would recommend the lobster enchilladas but service has been very hit or miss. Sitting outside was great until the local homeless folks were begging food at my table and the manager would not deal with the situation. Taking care of patrons is what staff are there for and I was left fending for myself. It has happened more than once - I sit inside now. Pros: Good drinks, Fresh Torillas , Good Parking Cons: Expensive, Brunch, Salsa more

NOT THE BEST! 5/18/2003

Cafe Pierpont is yuppified Mexican, it's okay but if you want authentic and more plentiful portions go to Red Iguana! Less flash and better food! Pros: nice atmosphere, good service Cons: not worth the money, not authentic more

Great Ambience, Okay Food 4/6/2003

Cafe Pierpont is one of my favorite restaurants, but I will admit that they don't serve the best mexican food in town. It's definately not authentic mexican food. There is something about this place though that keeps me coming back, usually with a group of friends. Perhaps it's the festive atmosphere along with the large portions that are served or maybe its the fact that Cafe Pierpont has the best nachos in town- they can feed 2-3 people and are a real bargain at only $6. Pros: Ambience, Large Portions, Great Nachos Cons: Not Authentic more

Fine fare 4/4/2003

I think the food is really quite good. If it weren't for the exhorbinant pricing, I would eat there more often. The drinks are way too overpriced and seriously lack in alcohol content. But perhaps that's more of Utah liquor law thing than the restaraunt. The fish tacos are very good and light suprisingly enough. They used to have a Sunday brunch that was da bomb!! What happened. Let's bring it back!! more

Great for Large Groups 4/2/2003

I have taken two large groups (over 115 both times) of International clients to Cafe Pierpont and have heard many positive comments from my guests. The atmosphere was lively which our Latin American guests loved. The service was friendly and very quick. The event coordinator was very helpful and accommodating in the planning of our events. She even stood outside the restaurant to welcome our guests. The manager was also great. The overall experience was positive and I will continue to use Cafe Pierpont for future events. Pros: Fast service, Great w/ big groups, Decent prices more

You're kidding 2/11/2003

It must be leaks from the chemical depot, or maybe fumes drifting in from the lake. What else could explain the extraordinarily bad taste of Utahns who voted Cafe Pierpont the best Mexican food? Unreal. Cafe Pierpont, while perhaps aesthetically pleasing, is possibly the worst Mexican food, wait, I'm not sure we can legally call it Mexican food as that might constitute fraud. Let's rephrase, the worst excuse for Mexican food in Salt Lake City. While I understand that striving for precise authenticity might not be the goal, the products of the kitchen are not even in the hemisphere. The best part about Cafe Pierpont? The Blue Iguana is only a block away. Pros: inexpensive, downtown Cons: the food more

fake mexican food for white folks 12/12/2002

It is typical that Uath would vote a white bread version of Mexican as the best Mexican food. This place is OK, but some of the other offerings further down the list are more autentic and have hotter salsa and chips that do not taste and looks like something out of a bag. What kind of mexican food place doesn't even serve refried beans? And its expensive for Mexican food, you should not pay more that $10.00 for an entree. Pros: nice building, good portions, good fajitas Cons: very loud, a am not a cow, mild salsa, thin chip more

Went DOwn hiLL 11/7/2002

CafePierpont had excellent food about 10 years ago, but it is terrible food... Greasy, slow service and way too over priced for the food! more

No Good 11/7/2002

This restuarant does not have the best Mexican Food. Needs tips from a real Mexican on how to cook good food. Pros: Nice Place, Clean Cons: Expensive, Food no good more

hmmm... best, I think not 11/7/2002

Please don't get me wrong on this, but being Mexican myself I think I should know good Mexican food when I taste it. Cafe Pierpont's food is great actually, but to call it Mexican food speaks to the general lack of knowledge of the population of Salt Lake when it comes to ethnic food. Its not the Salt Lake citizens fault, they're victims of the homogeny of this State. If the people of Salt Lake want to try authentic Mexican food drive over to Red Iguana, that is about as authentic as you can get for a sit down meal. If you just want to try a great tasting Mexican taco, drive over to Taqueria Piedras Negras, a hole in the wall for sure....but the real gems usually are found there. Pros: Good food, Good Service, Good Selection Cons: Not authentic Mexican, Can get very crowded, Pricey more

Come on now... 11/6/2002

Glitz and glamour does not equal good food. There are too many of these places, offering medicore food in a surreal environment. more
