nothing to write home about. 1/29/2010

I went there last night...I had one of those 50/50 coupons they offer you for your birthday (see their website...basically you get $50 off near your b-day) so I decided to check it out. Pros: service was good, good seats near the window Cons: atmosphere is a little cafeteria-like more

The soul of Paris in the heart of New York."" 10/17/2006

Modeled after a classic Parisian bistro, Café Centro is a truly a gem in midtown. The design features terrazzo floors inlaid with marble, delicately detailed columns accented with gold leaf above sculpted friezes of fish, birds, and animals, a beautiful wood ceiling, and soft amber lighting. Art Deco touches, a glass-enclosed kitchen, and a hearth rotisserie add to the sophisticated air of the Café. French cuisine with American and international influences never fails to impress and the new fall menu is fantastic. Pros: Enchanting more

Paris in the heart of New York! 10/10/2006

Café Centro is the soul of Paris in the heart of New York. My office is in the Met Life building, and I go there all the time for the French cuisine. There is something for everyone here from the excellent salads to the fresh fish and the dessert menu is delectable! The beautifully-detailed wood ceiling, soft amber lighting, and a fully exposed glass kitchen add to the sophisticated air of the Café. It's my little escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. Pros: Fresh fish and great atmosphere more

Great Food, Huge Restaurant! 10/5/2006

great location! (i really cant stress that enough!) my boyfriend lives in westchester, and we had some time spare before he had to catch his train at Grand Central, so we just walked right across the street to this wonderful place. i had the filet mignon, which was DELICIOUS and HUGE. the pomme frite were nice and crispy. i thought i was going to pop afterward! this is easily the best restaurant in the area and the service was impeccable-- efficient to say the least! Pros: great location-- GCT right across the street more

expensive but good lunch food 9/18/2006

i came here with six other coworkers for lunch last week. we requested to sit outside, and we found ourselves pretty much underneath the vanderbilt overpass. the place is really large and consists of an expansive indoor area w/an open kitchen, an outdoor bar on vanderbilt ave, and the outdoor seating on 45th between lex & vanderbilt (where we were) Pros: tuna, chocolate cake, outdoor seating Cons: expensive, small portions more

Entirely mediocre 7/26/2006

This is a pretty sub-par restaurant which I end up frequenting purely due to its handy location. The service is distracted and impersonal and the food is incredibly underwhelming. I have a particular problem with the ""fillet mignon"" caesar salad (it featured no dressing at all, and the meat had the appearance of chuck) as well as the horrendous, staggeringly bad hamburger. more

Highly recommended 4/29/2005

I was there with a large party for a girlfriend's birthday, and was happily surprised. The waitstaff was knowledgable and extemely helpful, considering there were 8 of us who had never eaten there. I had the chilean sea bass which was FANTASTIC and all my girlfriends raved about their food as well (try the crab cakes, the ""cafe de paris"" steak, raw seafood platter, or any of the soups). The server made us feel like we were the only important table in the restaurant even though it was extremely busy. We had a nice, large round table that enabled us all to chat. Great wine list as well. Definitely recommend it! more

Amazing 2/27/2005

This place is amazing. The food is incredible and the place is very nice. My boyfriend and I went there for Valentines Day and let me tell you that it was well worth it. The atmoshpere is very nice and the restaurant is spacious and fairly big. We ordered oysters which were delicious. For the main course I had a filet mignon which was so tender and perfect and my boyfriend had the chilean seabass which was also extremely delicious. The desserts are just undescribable. You MUST try the molten chocolate cake. The waiters were extremely nice and curtious and overall we had a very nice dinner. I strongly recommend this restaurant. Pros: food, staff, service more

A place to always go back to 2/14/2005

I had dinner at Cafe Centro last night for Valentine's Day. Everything from the appetizer to dessert was spectacular. Our server was courteous and attentive -- great service overall. The complimentary champagne and cotton candy at the end of the meal was the perfect touch for the occasion! more

Fantastic! 9/24/2004

A Hidden Treasure in the MetLife Bldg 6/1/2004

This is a great restaurant in every way, great food at an affordable price, friendly professional service and a beautiful, bright atmosphere. My two 3 years olds love to eat here. Pros: Affordable, great location, great menu more

looks like cafeteria.. 1/28/2004

i went there for NY restaurant week and had lunch. it was very good food and a portion was big. i had sea scallop salad, cod and chocolate cake. good quality. but the inside of the restaurant gives you a feeling of cheap cafeteria... i just felt strange. just try to imagine many well dressed people having power lunch in cafeteria... they could have worked on their choice of furniture and how to decorate the restaurant. but again, the food was great. more

Got To Try The Creme Brule! 3/13/2003

Cafe Centro offers a very nice decor to compliment their food. The kitchen is viewable and the staff was very friendly and helpful. I ordered the steak and it was pretty good, but the fries that came with it were rather soggy. As for desert, I must say I had the best vanilla creme brule at Cafe Centro. The creme brule had a chocolate dough crust, it was just so good. Make sure you get the Botrytis Semillon as a desert wine. Pros: Desert, Service Cons: Expensive more

a bit pricey, but great food 3/11/2003

I went for a dinner here because I got a $50 certificate from DineOut NY for my birthday. I decided on this place out of the 8 places available based on the positive reviews. I was not disappointed. My husband and I had a lovely and tasty dinner. My husband, who normally does not like venturing out for dinner, enjoyed his meal immensely. The seafood chowder was excellent (we both had it), his prime rib was perfect, my jumbo crab cakes were yummy, and our creme brulees were delightful treats. Including my ginger ale and his merlot, we only ended up paying $65 (including tip) after using the coupon. Pros: great food, nice ambience, courteous service Cons: bit pricy, but worthy, can get crowded, skateboarders outside more

One of the best dining experiences ever 1/28/2003

This was undoubtedly one of the best meals I've had in this city. We made reservations, and arrived around 9 p.m. We were seated immediately. The atmosphere was very romantic, with comfortable lighting, great decor, and a fireplace. I ordered the chicken, and it was very delicious. My friend ordered salmon, and was also extremely satisfied. Our aperitifs were complementary, and also delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. The price tag was around $50 for two without liquor. Pros: Romantic, Beautiful, Great food Cons: Far from theatres more
