Go at Ca'Brea restaurant for an excellent taste of Italian dish. The pizza is really good and I highly recommend it.

I had dinner at Ca Brea on Friday. I heard very good reviews on this restaurant but is wasnt good as I expected.... My friends pasta was dry and hard(undercooked). I had chicken ...

Disappointed 12/11/2011

I had dinner at Ca' Brea last night after some months. The service was good, but the food was extremely disappointing. The Carpaccio appetizer for example contained hardly any meat, and this minimal quantity was of bad quality with an unpleasant taste. The shaved parmesan was not ""parmiggiano grana"" but cheap un-aged parmesan. The only good thing on the plate was an abundance of fresh arugala salad, but this was not worth the $16 price tag. more

My Top 3 Fish Dishes EVER - ( see my reviews for 2 others ) 12/6/2007

We've been coming here for years, before they remodeled. I even had my b-day banquet here once...they NEVER disappoint! My favorite fish dish at Ca Brea is a special which they have every so often - it's a white fish baked in parchment paper, with tomato-caper sauce (another fave). This dish is divine! When they don't have it, I go for the addictive pumpkin ravioli in decadent creamy walnut sauce - comfort food at it's best! Oh, and the ""crema di vaniglia"" dessert is one of the best sweets I've ever had - the 1st time I tried it, I was willing to fall at the chef's feet in humble praise! Pros: Quality, dependable, never disappoints Cons: Can get busy in evening so definitely make reservations! more

Horrible service but good food 10/25/2007

The food was pretty good. I prefer Guido's in West LA but no complaints over the food at Ca' Brea. The service is another issue. I had an 8 p.m. reservation. I was seated at 9:30 p.m. When I arrived, the hostess politely explained that they were short staffed and had too many reservations. She said it would be a 20 minute wait. That turned into 90 minutes. That's unacceptable. Period. My party was compted one free drink at the bar. So at least they tried to make ammends. There was also no parking at the valet, so i had to find a meter 2 blocks away. When we were finally seated, the hostess approached my party and suggested that next time we dine at 6pm or 6:30pm when they're not busy, that way they can honor the reservtation. The food was good, but not worth the long wait and the disrespect of the restaurant's inability to honor the reservation. Go to Mozza, Guido's, or frankly even Maggiano's before going to this place. Pros: Nice menu. Fair prices. Great desserts Cons: Inadequate valet. Restaurant does not respect reservations more

Pleasant Staff, Decent Price, Easy Parking, 7/31/2007

Went to dinner on a Thursday night, I called ahead and was told not to worry about reservations (about 7:30pm). We were greeted immediately and warmly, and seated immediately. There is a nice bar that you could sit at if you had to wait. The waitstaff was attentive and quite pleasant, but the food was a little on the slow side arriving to our table. I think it was more the kitchen vice the waitstaff though. We had the proscuitto wrapped goat cheese as an app, and it was quite tasty. The gnocchi was not that good. The sauce was tasty, but the gnocchi I thought was too flour-y and not enough potato-y. The osso bucco was tasty, although I think the polenta should fritters should be larger or just serve it over a polenta mountain. Desert was a creme brulee type thing that was really good. Appetizer, 2 entrees, bottle of red, dessert, cappuccino and esspresso ran $105. Overall, the experience was great because of the ease of getting in, lack of any attitude in the staff, on the whole the food was good, and it was easy to park ($5 valet). Reccommended. Pros: Good Prices more

Risotto-Salty as the Dead Sea 2/24/2007

I've been here a few times and usually their food and service are great, but this past time was completely different. We took the family for lunch and every single dish was so salty, especially the risotto. We tried to enjoy it, especially since it's not a cheap place, but I guess the cook was feeling a little salt shaker-happy. Hopefully this was an isolated experience. more

Great Italian food and bread! 11/2/2006

I discovered this place by accident and it turned out to be GREAT! The bread is so good, that they ship it to other restaurants around the area. I love the gnocchi here. The location is central to everything in LA, so it's easy to get there. The service is always really good, from the valet to the wait staff. Pros: Bread, Service, Variety more

Awesome Party Space 9/18/2006

I organized a last minute graduation party at Ca Brea and we could not have had a better experience. They were very helpful in working with our large party without having to commit to a prix-fixe menu - a perfect situation for our group of whom several had dietary restrictions. All in all it was a great experience. The wine list was fantastic, the ravioli was incredible, and everybody raved about the tiramisu. I definitely recommend Ca Brea to anyone who appreciates good Northern Italian food. Pros: Service, parking, menu more

Romantic with good food and drinks! 4/8/2006

I highly recommend this place. Went there for a Christmas party and tried quite a few different dishes, all of which were good. The wine list is great and the service was great too. The ambience/decor are very Italian. I felt like I was in a little Italian villa. If you are having a party, they have a private room you can reserve that is pretty spacious. They also let you decorate it the way you want. Parking is a problem as any place in West LA, but there's always valet. I will definitely go back here. Pros: Ambience, Food, Drinks Cons: Parking more

Caca Brea 11/19/2005

It took 10 minutes for anyone to bother to come by and ask what we wanted to drink. Our waiter was horrible- he never once asked if the food was OK or refilled our water. The bruschetta was burnt. How any professional cook can burn toast is mindblowing- though the fact it was served up was the real kicker. I did not complain as I could not be bothered with causing a scene. We simply overturned the bruschetta so you could see the black bottom and put it at the corner of the table; not a word was said when the plate was cleared. My main course was drowned with sauce while my girlfriends linguini came out as dry as a bone. That I left a tip was purely due to not wanting to be as rude as the staff at CaCa Brea. Pros: Hostess, Valet Cons: Waitstaff, Food, Service more

Bad Customer relations...and service 10/23/2005

I was really jerked around by these folks while trying to plan a bachlorette party. I was shown a private room and I booked it. A couple of weeks before the event, I was phoned and told there was a $100 charge for the room, but that my group could have the patio for free. Friday before the Sat night party, I called to confirm & was told that the orginal party room had not been booked by anyone else, so my group could have it free of charge. ONE HOUR before our reservations, I was called again and told the room wasn't available afterall & that a table had been set up on the non-private mezzanine..that it was too cold for the patio. Bad experience!! good food, poor service. Pros: food Cons: service, reliability, customer relations more

Authentic Italian and Wonderful Feel 9/17/2005

Having just been in Italy for two weeks, while I was there, I realized that Ca Brea is probably the closest thing to real Italian in Los Angeles. I mean the waiters get excited when you order Sambuca or Limoncello. The starter breads are great and the wine selection is above-average. The gnocchi with veal ragu is AMAZING. For me, if you can make gnocchi right, then the rest should come naturally. The ambience is also very cozy and romantic. Same owner as Ca de Sole, which is another great Italian place in LA... We've definitely become regulars... Pros: Authentic, Service, Scene more

Absolutely Fabulous 10/21/2004

First time visitor and now a HUGE FAN!!! We just went in for a quick bite and tried a couple of appetizers, the tortellini and a bit of chocolate cake for dessert. Everything was five stars across the board. We loved it!! It is a relatively small and very relaxing space. Even with the open kitchen and a few of the tables very close to each other, it does not have the normal din you find in other restaurants. Amazing! You can actually hear the person you're dining with. Try and leave room for dessert. Pros: the food, solid wine list more

An Excellent Value for Delicious Italian 5/10/2004

Ca Brea is easily one of my favorite restaurants. Everything is excellent. If you are looking for a good restaurant to have a nice dinner, this is the place! The food is much more impressive than that at many more expensive places. You'll still spend a good chunk of change, but it will be worth every penny and you'll come out smiling! Pros: Service, Valet Parking $3.50, Location more

Romantic Italian Food 12/31/2003

Fall in love again in this beautify Italian restaurant on La Brea. great place to go for the food and stay for drinks in the bar or have a party in the room upstairs with few of your close friends. Very few Italian restaurants in LA can compete with Ca'Brea. LOVE IT!!! more
