We spent a long, luxurious weekend at the Worth House, to celebrate my birthday. Communication from the owner prior to our arrival was excellent, including precise directions, and a caution not to use online mapping and direction services. Upon arrival, we were greeted by our gracious hostess, Margi, who showed us to the lovely Hibiscus Room. We chose this room because of its large jacuzzi and we weren't disappointed. \r
Our 'Romance Package' included a split of champagne, and tickets for a horse-drawn carriage ride in historic downtown Wilmington. Both were very nice, and we suggest taking the carriage ride after dark, as we did. We were also treated to a private breakfast in the small alcove of our room on our first morning (a lovely surprise, suggested by our hostess). The breakfasts were unique, multi-course events which also made our stay very special. As the review says, the second storey porch is a beautiful spot; we used it to plan our days' activities while sipping morning coffee and juice. Margi was extremely helpful; giving us advice about things to see, providing local restaurant menus, telling us about the history of the Worth House, and other ""insider"" information.\r
The Worth House is exquisitely maintained, beautifully furnished, and has pretty plantings and fountains all around it, whch makes for a great setting. The furnishings take you back to a time of hoop skirts, high-button shoes, and parasols...and if you listen closely, you can almost hear the swish of ladies' skirts, and the flutter of fans in the breeze. Okay, maybe not, but the ambiance is serene, calm, and very welcoming. \r
We'll encourage our friends to experience The Worth House when they travel to Wilmington, and we look forward to returning again, too.
Pros: Hospitality, room amenities, breakfast quality
